Good news, I'm currently well underway with two songs, one untitled, one called "TechNoMore", as well as another little thing that may work as victory music like what plays at the end of the level in JP. I'm thinking the untitled song might work well as Mage Manor's theme.
TechNoMore, as the punny name might imply, is something of a sentimental song played by a sort of Techno guitar.
The untitled and victory jingle both star a much more whimsical instrument that is apparently known as an "Indian Shenai Reed".
I'm using FL Studio 8 (demo) for the most part to make the music. Since you can't save in the demo version, I'm recording my every move with screenshots so I can recreate the songs later if I need to.
Alright,(since I began typing this) I think I've got TechNoMore right how I like it, but now my problem is how to get it to you...

Bacon-I'll post my e-mail at some point. And I did need a victory song, so that will help too. Unless it's more the file format that's the problem, where you can't save as mid/mp3/wav/ogg. I guess in that case, I can download the demo, (assuming it's not from a CD or something) make a swf video of it playing in FL Studio using a screen video program I have, then use another program I have to rip the song from the swf file. Unless you can now get it to a music file, which would be less work for me.

So far I've been saving as .wav, is there another format you prefer? Oh, and that "Mage Manor theme" I mentioned before, which I'm now calling "Ruby Winds" is almost done and I began work on another.

Oh, I thought you were saying the demo didn't let you save as music files. Some will do that, where you can compose your brains out, but can't do anything with them until you buy the full version. .wav is fine, but .mid (if possible) works better with the game engine and takes up less space. I know you would have to go back and rewrite everything up, so you can just keep those as wav, but keep it in mind. If you're using things that wouldn't work in midi without sounding horrible, keep it the way it is.

If you're using things that wouldn't work in midi without sounding horrible, keep it the way it is. That's one of the main reasons I chose the FL Studios demo; as long as I keep track of what I've done, I can do anything... except it's harder to navigate than the last version of FL that I used, and a few other things I need to get used to... Alright, I think just for the sake of already having them DONE(among with a few more minor reasons), I'm not probably going to MIDI TechNoMore, Ruby Winds, or the two jingles(I added a "failure" jingle, but I don't really like it that much...), but I'll probably MIDI future songs. I think FL Studio 8 might be powerful enough to make anything sound good as a MIDI, but I won't know for sure until I try it. Oh, and so you'll have a feel for their lengths, TechNoMore is 1:26, or 1:42 with an optional intro. Ruby Winds is 1:57, and both jingles are about 3 seconds.

All right, I managed to cleanup the first sprite, now I've got a rough animation of it walking north: Couple more questions about spriting - is there a limit (or a minimum) for the number of frames in each animation? And are there any other poses that need to be done other than walking animations?

And are there any other poses that need to be done other than walking animations? The 'real' minimum is two sprites in each direction, but there is a code for three framed walking animations. The sprite is turning out pretty well. As for other poses, those are larger, and the heroes have multiple frames, while enemies only have one. There are also attacks, with three frames. The bottom of this page has the sizes for sprites, and they need to be 16 color BMP files.

Hmmm, so do you reckon you could make like a list of the poses that need to be done? ^^ Like, it would be good to know whether the big poses should be drawn from the front or behind, or from the side, or from a bird's eye view. Or you could present examples for each pose, maybe And it would be good to know how the fight scenes are laid out. Would it be more like M&L:SS or like the pokemon series, or like neoquest? And I did a view of the wattlebird from the front, but I can't figure out how to save as a 16-colour bitmap on Jasc Animation Shop... and they're all four frames long, btw.

AS for the 16 color BMP, just post the frames as PNGs and I'll convert them to 16 color BMPs on my computer. The battles look like this: The enemies can be moved around, but the heroes are all in a line from the spot the smiley is at. (The reason why it looks so weird is because it's from the Battles tutorial, not any real playable game.

I thought these would be helpful in sprite ceation. Where Your Character Would Usually Be Found: At Pen's Point Description of Personality: Nonconfrontational and peaceful, though it's hard to understand most words he uses in an average sentence. Picture or Description:Steel blue, orange-yellow eyes, typical human shape. Wears a suit. Other: A quest could be for... a final copy of a book?
Where Your Character Would Usually Be Found: Work Reviews and Advice Description of Personality: Easier to understand than Huxleybot, slightly boring, but respectable. Picture or Description: Gray, neon green eyes, also wears a suit. Other: Possible quest items could be documents, books, etc.

Oh, so each individual frame needs to be saved as a bitmap, rather than the animation as a whole I can convert them into that... do the 16 colours need to be standard websafe colours, or will any 16 colours do?

Any 16 colors will do, but I can only have so many colors on my palette for the game. Don't worry about that, though, if I can't use your exact colors, I'll make slight modifications. (Just the colors, everything else will stay the same)

Cool, I just realised it said on the site that black gets replaced with transparency and that black outlines should be done in a dark, dark grey shade of black. I finished converting all the frames into bitmap files; here they are: Got any ideas about what sort of enemies the player will encounter, or would that spoil the plotline? ^^ enemies would be fun to sprite too.

Yeah, you have to save as .png to keep the bitmap color quality.

Pacmanite- Enemies? Well, most of them are references to viruses or spammer terms. (Some enemies are the Spambot, Troll, Cookie Grabber, etc.)
