Hmm, there was one bit of the animation I didn't understand though... What three purple hearts?

No, I think it's just for getting injured - period. Although, I'm not sure of the specifics - if you have to actually be injured in combat or injured by enemy fire. But yeah, that's pretty much it.

A purple heart is a medal given for being wounded in combat. Kerry has 3 of them.

Eh, I figured I'd gotten it a bit off. I always do when I talk about things I'm not 100% sure about.

Wasn't there some controversy over Kerry's purple hearts though, because he only got hit by a tiny bit of shrapnel which they later thought was self inflicted? *shrugs* That's what I heard.

I dunno, to have been in such a situation where one would have shrapnel flying at them is quite something I think.

I don't know. I think there was some kind of "controversy" because oen of the shells that hit him might've been an American mortar shell... Oh! And there was that other one where people were complaining because, in a video shot after he came home from the war, it showed him apparently throwing his medals over the fence at the Capital in an anti-war march. Of course it later came out that he didn't throw away his medals - he just threw away the ribbons! (*gasp!*)

Throwing away just the ribbons shows uncertainty, indecision, and an overall lack of confidence. In other words: typical Kerry.

In other words: typical Kerry. Yeah, but he disagreed with the war and that was one thing. But he was still proud of the fact that he served there and earned those medals - even if it was for a cause he didn't believe in (and isn't that the hardest thing, to go out and fight for something, even when you disagree with it?). He wanted to show his distaste for the war without forgetting the great things he did there. At least, that's what I would believe....
