Spring Cleaning 2022

Spring is starting Sunday, March 20th, and lasts until Tuesday, June 21. During that time, let's do some Spring Cleaning! You start off by making a single post with your list of things you need or want to get done. This post can be edited and added to as you go along. Then throughout Spring, you post updates to the projects on your list.

This year, we'll try using just one thread for both purposes. You'll make a Projects List post, which I will link to in this first post. And then you'll also post updates and support each other in this thread with additional posts.

If the one thread format becomes too confusing as we go along, I'll make a second thread for projects lists, have everyone repost their lists there, and leave this thread for updates.

Happy first day of Spring! Time to start spring cleaning, if you haven't already.

Did some reading today, and I'm currently a little over 3/4's of the way through Moby-Dick now!

I also have a short phone call tomorrow for a possible job, so I've been prepping for that with answers to possible talking points and questions I may have about the company.

I wrote a short story about Saskori before this event even started. Got a couple of beta readers for it, just to be sure. But I think it's pretty tight already. It's taking a big step in establishing something about my Saskori Saga, as I call it in my list. It's interesting, because it's a saga I more or less make up as I go along, this story included.

Got some good work done on my home office these past couple days. Got the wall up, now need to patch and cover up the seams.

Have a job interview in a little over a week. Not sure if I want this job, but we'll see what happens.

Been thinking about Story and Storm, because I think it'll make for a good story for the Meridell collab this summer. Still a lot of logistics to work out.

Did a brief phone interview for a job opening, so now I just need to wait until the end of the week to see if they wanna hear more from me.

Read a couple more chapters of Moby-Dick, and I may read some more later tonight.

I finished Moby-Dick!! Literally just got done with reading it which feels like a true accomplishment in itself, and I'm sure it's a book I'll be returning to in the future.

I'm out of town until the end of this week, so I won't be able to pick up Dracula just yet (nor do some other items on my list haha), but I look forward to reading that one soon :3

I have some side character ideas for Ghost Story that I sketched today, or who I plan to sketch.

I kinda reused almost the same list in the past years I've participated, with all these art things that I had ideas for but didn't get the time/the inspiration/the spoons for the rest of the year. Probably a number of them are still somewhere on the (distant) back burner, but this year, I'm gonna remake my list fresh and am just going to focus on the things that I actively want to finish this spring (or soon after). ^^

Submitted my short story "Hello Mum," the next piece in the Saskori Saga. Also started a Trello Board to keep this Saga organized. Partly because I figured out something this saga can build up to, rather than just a vague, "Saskori is important to the Woods." The trees are fond of Saskori, for good reason, but I wasn't always sure how that'd play out.

Update on the home office: currently picking the wall color. Decided to go with a wall sticker instead of painting a mural on the wall. Disappointing, but then on the other hand, easier, and if we have to tear down that stupid wall again, it's okay, I didn't paint a mural on it. Found a nice wall sticker online and ordered it.

Applied to a few jobs in the past week. All at the library. I don't have high hopes, but we'll see what happens.

Got a lot of yard work done, filled up ten paper yard waste bags so far.

I'm back home and ready to tackle more of my list items! I tried to get Dracula from the library, but I had trouble finding a copy of the original book that was currently available. For now, I'm pivoting my plans and skipping to the next book I had on my list, Wuthering Heights. I read it for school several years ago and had a bad time, but I wanted to give it a second chance now that I'm not obligated to read it lol. Checked out an ebook version of it and ready to get started!

After my brief phone interview last week, they got back to me wanting a second interview, which is scheduled for tomorrow morning. I've been prepping for it today, so hopefully it'll go well~

I also bought some folders today for the paper filing bullet point, as I'm going mad with the stacks of paper and mail I have lying around xD

To be honest, I have long missed the homework deadlines for the coding course. I had to finish all 8 assignments by today. Today I should receive more homework. I contacted one of the teachers and I hope they can arrange a new schedule for me. I finished the 1st homework and I have done half of the work for the 2nd homework.

Writing course started last weekend. The goal for the course (by the end of the year) is to finish one story (a novel is also an option) which is polished enough to be published. The goal for the first half of the year is:
-to construct characters (until the next meeting)
-to come up with synopsis
-to create a storyline
-to learn to write real/believable dialogues
-to write the beginning of the story

Accounting course will start this week and will end at the end of July (no summer for me, lol). The schedule is tight. I don't even know how to split it into smaller goals.

I started writing diaries for 4 characters from the story about Guardians. Usually I write about them from the 3rd person perspective so it's a lot of fun to step into their shoes and actually write what they think and feel.

I went to the clothing store. Uf, that was tough. Luckily I managed to buy 2 (dark, obviously) sweaters and 1 (surprisingly, beige) jacket. Somehow I have to make myself go to this one clothing shop and buy the rest of things, eh.

Regarding running I do some core and leg strengthening exercises from time to time. Anytime soon the weather should be warm enough for me to start running.

Forgot to mention my JN articles. I finished up the NT Comics article, just waiting for final admin check (which can take a while sometimes). Same thing with the Web of Vernax guide. Up next is revamping the Art Gallery guide.

Had two interviews last week, and another this week. Two of the three are for library jobs, which is exciting. The third was for a tech job, which involved pseudocoding. That's kind of like coding practice, right?

Bought some paint for the home office. The wall sticker came in as well, though I can't put that up until it's painted, and there's some stuff do to before that as well.

I have posted the version with all my newest Neopets, as well as added some fun hover css to the top of the page. Next up is adding in hexcodes for color reference. Like the copic marker colors, it's a way for me to remember their colors quickly. In this case, I plan to list both the hex number, as well as actually show the color. And then I can screenshot the page and use a color dropper if I want to.

Had a comic published today. It introduced Colaina the Coding Mynci, and Scanlines the Program Zafara Avatar. With all the glitches on Neopets the past day or so, it's been interesting. TNT has been talking about Meepits chewing wires, which is exactly what my comic is about.

I added a couple things to my list, but I could probably expand it with even more bullet points lol. I think I'm being picky on what I put since a lot of the things I want to do are very short term art projects. But I mean, some other things I have up there could be done in just a day too, so maybe I should be more liberal with my list.

In the meantime, though, I'm happy to say I can cross off "Job?" from the list, as the place I recently interviewed offered me the position, and I accepted! I've got orientation next week, and I'm hoping that I like the work and people there. It's a customer service oriented position, so I'm most nervous about being able to meet the social demands of the job, but for now I'm optimistic.

I've done some miscellaneous drawing lately; a number of things not on my list, but still productive I'd say. Finished a piece for Shoyru Day this coming Monday, so I'll be sure to submit that Sunday night. I also started a Zathandria drawing idea, which I'll either push through and finish soon, or I'll put down and not pick up for several months lol.

I also did some fine tuning on Moon's character design for Ghost Story. There were some earlier details of hers I wasn't a fan of, but I think I've come closer to what I want. I'll likely post my sketchings of that tomorrow.
