Hey guys, I came home from work today and saw that I was logged out of neo (which is weird enough as it is). But now I can't seem to log in. It keeps saying my password is invalid and it locked me out. I'm worried I've been hacked, and I don't think the email I registered with this is still in existence. Any advice? Is this happening to anyone else?
Edit: just logged into my side account fine. But when I viewed my main's user lookup, it looks like the code is broken. Now I'm paranoid that someone is fiddling around with my account... or maybe my code was out of date? Either way, I'm freaking out a bit and not sure what to do.
Double Edit: My userlookup said the last time I logged on was Stealth. I don't think I had it on that setting before... gaaaaaah

Oh, shoot, yeah, that sounds really really suspicious. Uh, send in a ticket on your side at the very least, I think you're supposed to self-freeze for protection or something, I'm not sure, but I know there's info on what you're supposed to do somewhere.
I don't see style tags on your userlookup code, though, so that might just be old.

oh no! You should probably send in a ticket to JS from your side, and check the most appropriate category they have. I'm pretttty sure they have a ticket type for potentially compromised accounts. Explain the situation to them--I know people who have had accounts recovered when their email was out-of-date. Then cross your fingers and hope you don't get Rico S on your ticket. Some badgering from time to time helps if they don't get back to you within two weeks or so. I'm sure others more tech-savvy than me can offer better advice though.

I remember when one of my accounts was hacked. I'm super-paranoid to the point I don't ever go on the NeoBoards ever and don't click on user shops or user lookups even though I have Adblock, NoScript and Flashblocker. Almost all the times I go on a lookup, it's of someone I know and trust.

Thanks guys. I put in a ticket. About two years ago, I made a random list of a lot of stuff in my safety deposit box, so I think that may help. I just hope whoever is in there doesn't mess with things too much ;_;

Have you tried a password retrieval? Maybe they didn't change the e-mail the account was connected to.
I hope you get your account back. It's a good thing you kept a note of items in your SDB, the more info you can provide to prove its your account the better.
Just in general for everyone, it's worth going over the "Frozen Account" and "Passwords/Account Access Help" ticket forms and keeping a Notepad file of information it asks. General things to remember would be:
1. A list of your Neofriends (if you have a lot write down the most notable ones. A good idea would to also make those Neofriends VIP) 2. Make a list of items you have in your Inventory, SDB, Equipped to your Neopets, Closet, and Storage Shed (basically places where only you would know what items are there (like Gallery won't help as others can see your Gallery (though if you have valuable items in your Gallery you may want to right them down anyway)). Once again, if you have a lot just picks the ones which are the most notable. Also if you have items which are part of a collection you can just say the type of items they are instead of each individual item). 3. Additional details you could include are what stocks you own (I suggest only including stocks that at the moment are under 10 as those aren't likely to increase for awhile), Avatars you've unlocked (though only the most notables ones. Also since Avatars are listed in order you got them you can note that too), what items you have in your Stamp Album/Neodeck/TCG collection/Key Quest Tokens, and anything else you think could help prove its your account.
As for general site safety tips: 1. I keep a list of usernames of shops & look-ups I go to. 2. When buying an item from a user shop I actually don't buy the lowest costing item, instead I opt for one that costs slightly more. Also if there's any shops I feel that I can trust I usually note them and visit them first. 3. I suggest turning on the safety features that @fangofthedead listed.

Have you been on the PC lately? The UL code changes and Stealth setting sounds like something that was happening there last week. Seemed like it was a bot making changes, someone attempting to secure accounts for later use/sale - nothing was stolen (so hopefully everything will still be in your account when you get back in). About your email, I would suggest remaking it if you can, or changing your email once you get back in. Some email services allow you to remake addresses after a certain time. So people would be able to claim your unused email and use it to breach your account (not that I think that happened here, but it is something to be aware of).

Have you tried a password retrieval? Maybe they didn't change the e-mail the account was connected to. I've had the account for twelve years, so I'm pretty sure the email I had it under doesn't function anymore. Though a few weeks back I was trying to change it my current email (which is one I got while in college) but for some reason, neo wouldn't let me switch it. :/ Have you been on the PC lately? Honestly, I haven't been too active recently. Mostly I've just been logging in, doing Trudy's surprise, and zapping my pound pet. Nothing crazy which is why this is a surprise. And yes, I think I'm going to try to make a new email account and link it to neo once I get back in. Anyone know if gmail accounts work? My school email is a gmail account, but the tag at the end is a school name.edu (which I'm thinking is why it's not working). Unless I have some weird setting on my email that's bouncing back neo's stuff...

This really sucks, sorry to hear this happened, man! :/
As a future note, it's advisable to always keep your old e-mails active if they are available, just to ensure they don't get purged. I think it's a common Neo!hacker thing to create e-mail addresses that have been deleted by the hosts to get into accounts. But, if it's defunct, then maybe that's not the problem.
I would advise posting on their Facebook & tweeting them about it. I know some users who have waited 3-6 months for a reply about being frozen (not sure about hacked accounts), which sometimes leads to giving up on the account altogether - which I'd hate to see you do! But the reply time tends to be quicker if you make your issue visible. I imagine, after a week or two without reply, posting on their wall with your ticket number, and tweeting them a few times, as well as messaging the FB account if you still don't get a reply, would do it? I know the support has gotten marginally better, but it seems like a lot of people are being left endlessly in limbo with the ticketting.
If you still want to play, I believe you can start doing dailies on your side after a week or so of not using your main, and then switch back when you've retrieved your account.

Unless I have some weird setting on my email that's bouncing back neo's stuff... Gmail accounts definitely work - .edu addresses shouldn't be a problem, at least, they weren't when I was briefly using one for some of my side accounts. Could be that they're getting marked as spam or something, though. Best of luck getting your account back, Bianca, and I hope nobody’s been messing with it!

GAH I am beyond angry at Neopets right now. They got back to me about my account and said that the email I listed was not the right one. They asked for more options. I sent them several other possible addresses along with a bunch of other information verifying that this is my account. But I just got yet another response saying they cannot give me my account back until I list the email I made the account on.
This is ridiculous. Why bother asking for all the other information I provided if this only hinges on my start-up email? I made this account 12 years ago. My family had JUST gotten internet access and I'm sure whatever email we used does not exist anymore.
I'm about to make a call to my parents to see if they have any idea what these super old email addresses were, but I'm so upset and angry. There are so many signs that this is my main account and that I'm filing a ticket on my side account. I've sent items between the two. Heck, I even wrote an NT article on my main account ABOUT MY SIDE ACCOUNT'S NEOHOME which was published and then they USED THE IMAGE OF MY SIDE'S NEOHOME as the image. I never even used the name of my side account in the article; someone at neo just knew. So it makes me crazy that they are playing at this game. It just infuriates me how they are ready to throw someone out who has put 12 years into this site and so much blood and sweat into writing for the NT.

Because that is ridiculous, the reason they ask you for so much information is if a situation like this happens and you don't have the email anymore. You prove from information alone that the account if yours. Hmm... can you ask them what email the account says its attached to?

Duke Pikachu I think the point is that I'm supposed to know what the email is or they won't give me the account back, so I don't think I can just ask the staff member for the email. I asked my parents for our first family email address, so I hope this is the one I used. *crossing fingers*

I hope you're able to get this sorted out They gave me the same runaround when I wanted access to an old account a few years back. I wound up having to guess the old email myself. When I did, I requested the ticket be closed and they congratulated me for figuring it out myself. I hope you have better luck with them than I did >_<
