Ikkin looked up suddenly, finally realizing how they could determine where in the Manor the monster had come from. "Hey, Warlock," she asked. "Do you think there's any way that you could break the shields it's using to hide its energy signature? I might be able to recognize that signature, and then we'd be able to figure out where to go to deal with the problem. Most areas of the Manor have very specific types of magic, so it shouldn't be too hard to do... there's no way I could miss something that obvious. But I can't take down those shields myself, so I'll need some help."
((Does this help, Warlock?))

((Yep thanks Im wondering where this rp is headding *lol* )) *he lowers his head in thought, glancing at the creature from the corner of his eyes, for a moment he looks unsure and then he nods* it can be done... We'll need everyone to help though, *he looks around at everyone present, meeting each eye to eye* I dont have the energy left to reach that deep, lord knows how strong that shield is.

"How will we be able to help?" Ikkin asked. "I have no idea what to do... but I could try to do what you ask. I don't think the shield will be too strong, though, since the creature itself is so weak right now, fortunately..."

Just.. dont think, and hold still.. Its going to be shielded either way.. a very fine thread of unconscious memory burried deeply in That *he motions with his staff to the creatures cranium*
If Im going to have a shadows hope of finding it, I cant afford distractions. Its mind needs to be the only thing I can 'see'. *He glances around at them all again* does everyone understand?
((Think of it like this.. for him to find that thread, its like switching off all the lights in the room. Being in complete darkness, with the only lights being other minds, each one shines like a flame. He has to be able to focus on the single flame that represents the mind of the creature. A distraction to another mind (usually if that mind suddenly flames brighter than the creature via thought) could mentally shread him))

"I'll try my hardest not to think a thing, then," Ikkin said. "I hope this works..."
She then did just that, shutting down her thoughts one by one, until she reached the point where there were none left (as far as that would even be possible). Hopefully, this wouldn't take too long...

If it helps.. just listen to the sound of your own breathing and try not to hear your own voice in your head, not even a word, just sound.... *he glances around at all of them, giving them a long moment to practice before he nods and takes a deep breath himself, its been too long since he's tried this.. he turns and kneels in front of the creature, who lowers its head as if to a silent command, warlock places his staff on the ground becide him and breathes deeply again, letting his eyes close and the air around them grows thick... when his eyes reopen, they are no longer blue, but pure voids of black, including the whites of his eyes.
Time seems to slow and stop, the sound of their own breathing would become suddenly very loud, and then even more suddenly, almost silent.. the experience is something alike going under a powerful anesthetic (such as laughing gas). To them the world around them would remain the same, they would see no change in their surroundings and would have to resist thinking that nothing was happening.. To warlock however, the world goes black, and the living minds of those around him flare like strips of magnesium in the darkness.. His body does not move, but his physical mind does. It turns to check on each of those around him.. ikkin, sage, hu, their flames flickering as they continue to focus on not thinking, good.
At last he turns his attention to the monster and he flinches at its light.. pure, blood red. In his mind he slowly, carefully reaches out a hand.. driving it slowly into the middle of the flame and all other lights around him dim and vanish as he focuses solely on this one.
Assured that the others have vanished from his mind, he allows himself to sink into the mind of the beast.. he feels himself vanishing into the creatures flame and forces himself not to resist it.. suddenly an all emcompasing sound nearly deafens him, but he was expecting it, its the hum of all the creatures thoughts and magic coursing through its mind and soul. Again he wills his mind to turn and search as carefully as possible so as not to alert the creature to his presence in its mind. Slowly, the creatures mind comes into focus, its shape highly unusual and extremely random, but its unconscious mind has not noticed him and hopefully wont.
Reaching out again with his hand he silences his own mind and begins to search, hunting for the memory Ikkin sent him after. An expert on minds, he swiftly locates its memories and avoids the evil ones that lure the mind like sirens. At last he finds the threads of memory, and each memory is marked with a signature, to him they appear like threads of pure silver entwined with colours that mark emotions. In the past he has stolen memories, but this one he doesnt want to steal.. It takes him longer to view each memory, resisting allowing the emotions to accompany it.
At last he finds the one hes looking for. Flashes of fear, anger, awe and joy accompany the creatures memory if its master, its creator. Warlock touches it to commit it to his own memory and in his mind, he smiles to himself and starts to withdraw his mind from the sickening red flames.
Suddenly the hum stops and warlock knows he has been there too long.. he quickens his pace to retreat and feels his mind being pulled away from him, memories vanishing and the red flames becoming part of him, or him a part of them. In his mind the creature snarls with fury, but now back in his own mind, warlock is safe. He blinks once, blinks twice and his eyes return to normal... his own breath now shallow and fast, he fights to maintain consciousness. Shaking the feeling away and looking at the creature, still tranced, he smiles and glances to ikkin* I got it.

Omni walked along a wide dirt road, an excited smile showing on her face. She had actually been invited to Mage Manor! She still couldn't believe that it was actually happening.
She ran over what had happened in her head. There she was, quill in paw, writing a letter asking permission to visit the Manor for a few days when what should come in the mail but an invitation to the very Manor she was writing to! She had somehow managed to memorize the letter, the opening sentence, the welcome, the directions of how to get to, as well as into, the Manor. And now she was approaching the Manor itself, the towers peaking over the horizon.
She ran the rest of the way to the Manor and approached the doors. She could feel the different magics from where she was. Earth, air, fire, water... they were all there, and now, perhaps, she could learn to use at least a little bit of each.
She made her way into the Manor and took a look at her immediate surroundings. They were a sight befitting of a magical building, such as this.
"Hello?" she called out, her voice echoing off the walls.

Salamander Alarra Asule walked through the dark hallways of the manor, trying to pinpoint the obvious magical presence of other mages. Her pace was slightly quicker than usual, and she had a jumpy, nervous manner about her. She always got like this when she was in a less than perfectly lit area; it was partly innate and unconquerable fear of the dark, but mainly nervousness at the lack of light. She was a light mage, or magician, and one of the requirements for her comfort was for there to be plenty of manageable light nearby. Tugging absentmindedly at the spiderweb-shaped silver pendant she wore as a necklace, Salah tried to stop her heart from jumping every few seconds, whether at an imagined sound or simply at a fresh wave of nervousness.
Hopefully the hallways were only dark because of the current disuse, or maybe due to an unfortunate positioning of the sun at this moment. This wasn't the kind of atmosphere she would want to wake up to each morning. Maybe she could use a lantern in the future.
Finding a door, she was fairly certain that it was the last she'd have to pass through. Sensing magic wasn't an expertise of hers - she was far more concerned with mastering the art of light control - but, mainly due to innate ability, Salah could tell that there was too much magic behind the door to be magic just sitting around on its own. Conclusion: magic users were in there. Or at least one was.
This train of thought flashed through her head in moments, and she quickly opened the door that she prayed would lead into a haven safe from the darkness. "Hello?" she said, before looking at anything in the room.
((This is how I'm going to talk out of character, by the way.))

Hearing a voice, Omni's ears perked up... Well, as best as they could, being the floppy kind. She headed in the general direction of the voice, but soon realized that it would be hard to find the source if she didn't hear it again. She decided to try one of her other senses. Closing her eyes, she lifted her nose into the air. She smelled something, and it was food, which would only lead her to the kitchen. Decideing to try paying attention to differences in the feel of the magic around her, she set down the hall in the direction she thought the voice came from.

As Salah surveyed the room, her hopes dropped slightly. No one was in there. She had most likely just screwed up, and maybe they were in a neighboring room. Turning around to the hallway (the room was rather dark, and rather large, and she was hoping she wouldn't have to walk through it) she started looking around for the door, only to be suddenly interrupted by footsteps. Salah's heart leaped in her chest, and she automatically put a hand on it, as though to keep it from flying out through her skin. As the footsteps became closer, it was easy to tell what direction they were coming from. Walking out into the hall, Salah took a deep breath in and, gesturing with her hands, forced all the light from the room towards the newcomer in order to illuminate her, leaving the light mage's segment of the hall in relative darkness.
((Shining bright lights in people's faces is fun! ^_^))

"GAH!" Omni raised a paw to her face, blinking a lot as her eyes adjusted to the light. She could see an outline of somebody. A human, judging by the scent. Well, at least the Manor wasn't empty, but why sudden light change?
Omni lowered her paw once her eyes were somewhat comfortable. "What?" she asked.

Ikkin walked slowly down the hallways of the manor. It had been some time since the confrontation between the mages of the manor and the monster in the library, but she still thought about it, the mystery of the monster's origin still puzzling her and impelling her to return to the Manor day after day to try to figure it out.
Warlock had broken its shields, yes, and she was able to read its energy signature. But it was unlike any she had seen so far in the Manor. This was why she continued to walk its halls, hoping to find some undiscovered area of the Manor which had a signature like the monster's.
She was interrupted in her search by a bright flash of light magic in a nearby room. There's actually someone still here? she thought to herself. She'd have to go see who it was...
Ikkin ran quickly, uncomfortable with the fact that there was someone she didn't know in the castle. She knew the person was probably harmless, perhaps a mage who had received a letter and came to the Manor late. But, she still didn't like being (figuratively) in the dark.
As she rounded the corner and came into the room, she saw that there were actually two figures there - the light mage who had made the flash, and something else... maybe a Zafara? They both seemed harmless enough, so she called out to them. "Hey, who are you two, and what are you doing here? This Manor's been empty for a while... but, if you're mages, you're welcome to stay."

Seeing the very harmless-looking face of the newcomer, Salah quickly released her magical grip on the light. It flooded out towards the walls, for a second illuminating the deepest shadows, before it settled back to where it had been, dimly lighting the hallway. "Oh... eh, sorry," she said, embarrassed. "I must not have realized how much light there was here." She didn't immediately say anything else; 'hi, what's your name?' would sound kinda awkward here.
Salah was saved the trouble of thinking of conversation by the footsteps in the hallway right outside. She spun around just in time to see a girl with long hair a tail enter the room. "Hey, who are you two, and what are you doing here?" the girl called, addressing her statement both to Salah and the creature next to her. "This Manor's been empty for a while... but, if you're mages, you're welcome to stay."
"Oh, hi," Salah said. "Um, I'm Salah, and I'm a light mage. I got permission to come here a while ago, I think." Well, she didn't think. She knew. Phrases such as that and 'like' had an annoying habit of working their way into her conversation.

Omni's eyes took a moment to adjust, at least sudden decreases of light didn't hurt her eyes, unlike increases. She walked up next to Salah. "I'm Omni," she said, "I also got an invitation. I'm not exactly a mage, but I do have magic that I'd like to learn how to use better. That's why I came here, to become a mage."
