Lyria found it hard to sleep that night. She kept on having nightmares about what could happen on this journey. They were all meaningless except for one. She saw herself enter the home of the Bathul-gun, and die immediately from a blast of magic. She had to avoid this happening. She didn't want any more nightmares, so she stayed up all night until morning came.

In the morning, Ayoshi woke up and looked around. She seemed to be the first to wake up. She wondered where Riani was for a second, then looked up and spotted her in the tree. Ayoshi tied her bundle to her back and woke up the others. "Come on," she said, "we have a long walk ahead of us."

Kira woke up and nodded. She got back up and started walking.

Riani swooped down out of the tree and began walking with the rest of them.

Ayoshi stopped suddenly, wearing a frown on her face. She shushed the others, and stood quietly for a second. Then she whispered, "did you hear that? It sounded like footsteps. Not a beast's though, they sounded like a human's, or a group of humans'..." She listened for another second, then added, "It's a group of humans, I'm sure of it. Should we hide until we see them, and who they are?"

'It might be a good idea to hide,' Riani said. 'We're near enough to the dwelling of the Bathul-gun that there's more than half a chance that these people may not be friendly.'

Lyria ran and hid.

Kira hid behind a bush, being careful not to make a noise.

Riani (the tree-obsessed) quickly scaled a rather leafy tree, and hid among its foliage, her wings wrapped around her for extra protection.

Ayoshi ducked swiftly behind a bush next to Kira, and listened closely as the footsteps stopped not daring to risk a look in case they saw her.
"Well? What now?" a man's voice asked.
"Hmmm..." came another man's voice, softer and quieter. "I sense that we are being watched, Thinderi...."
"Oh quit being paranoid," scowled a woman's voice, "and let us be going! If we don't reach the old fool's hut in time, they may be gone already-"
"Shh!" the second man's voice hissed. "They're here."
Ayoshi froze, looking nervously at Kira beside her. She thought fast. Judging by the complaining voices she now heard, there were about 15-20 of them... she held her breath and looked around at the others.

Kira had an idea in mind. She wanted to tell Ayoshi, but if they did a single noise, an army would probably attack them. She made gestures to Ayoshi. What she was really trying to say was "Maybe we should go deeper into the woods, so they won't see us, and then come back and do a surprise attack." But gesturing that wasn't too easy...

Riani kept as quiet and still as a hunter stalking it's prey. She saw Kira below, trying to gesture out something, but she didn't quite get the meaning. Something about 'go back furthur' and 'surprise'... but if they moved at all, wouldn't the be heard?

Ayoshi stared at Kira, trying to make out what she was saying. Something about going into the woods.... as in running? Well, for now, getting as far away as possible so that they could at least talk to each other sounded like a good idea. Ayoshi glanced briefly over the bush to see if the group of people were watching or not, then she turned and started silently crawling away, careful not to crush the dry leaves on the ground. She put a finger to her lips and signalled the others to follow.

Kira smiled with satisfaction. Apparently, Ayoshi had understood her plan. She quietly followed her.

Riani took a deep breath, and asked the tree to help make her silent. The tree agreed, and Riani slowly eased herself out of its branches. When she was safely on the ground and much furthur into the forest with the rest, she thanked the tree silently and then whispered to the others, 'Now what?'
