Live thread, live!!
Anyways. Ticktock's vanished again; it's been over a month since this latest absense, according to her userlookup =/ I think that if weaponstar's still willing to let us use NTReader's petpage, we should get the page moved over. I really think this could be a great project, but we are going to need someone active to maintain it (no offense meant to ticktock).

A somewhat reluctant "aye", but I do concede that this thing really does need an active host.

I'm sorry if I didn't quite make this clear enough in my last post, but I'd rather not host the page. I was only offering to create NTReaders for safekeeping, in the event that it would be needed. If/when you find someone active who is willing to maintain the page, I'll be very happy to Transfer NTReaders over to them.
While I would, as I said, love to see NTRA grow, I'm really not what you're looking for in the way of an active maintainer. I have way too many neopian projects of my own as it is, and, basically, I'm just too susceptible to procrastination.
Again, sorry if I gave the wrong impression before.

Sorry, weaponstar; that was my fault. Now that you mention it, I remember you saying you made NTReaders to reserve the name, not to keep him. It's been a while, and my memory could use some upgrades *thwaks head*

-pokes thread-
I realise posting here is probably completely pointless, but I don't know what else to do. Ticktock has not, as I'm sure you're aware, been on. My problem is I don't know what to do with the pet NTReaders. I thought it wouldn't matter when I created him, but now I find myself tight on pet-space. Any ideas at all? Do we think NTRA has any chance of being realised, or does it not matter now what I do with this pet?

I think, in the absence of anyone else who's willing to maintain the page, I think I'll host it. I don't want this thing to die out. And how's the saying go... "If you want something done do it yourself?" Yeah, I think I'll host it. I'll arrange something about the transfer of NTReaders to a side account. And I've got a few ideas on what direction we can take this thing.

Even though I can't do too much since I'm really busy and all, I'm listening, Pacmanite.

Wow, that was fast xD Well firstly I'll do a bit of a rewrite and a reorder of the content on the page, so the transfer of the page can't be viewed as any kind of plagiarism of Ticktock's work (not that anyone would call it that, but just to be on the safe side). Then I'll dig back through the thread and get a complete list of everyone who's contributed so far, since we should have written that down a long time ago Then what I'm thinking is that we can create a section for NT fanart. I think it would really encourage more people to read the NT since everyone seems to looove art, and they always have time to look at art, but it takes a bit of motivation sometimes to get someone to read a great length of writing. A gallery of fanart would not only be a great thankyou to the writers of the NT, it would also draw in (bad pun not intended) new readers who are curious about the story behind each picture and enhance the meanings explored in the written work of the NT =D

Sounds good! So when you take over the page, you'll be giving it a revamp, yes? NT fanart...quite a few of us forumers have that. No, not me. XD ... Hmmmm, I browsed through the page again, and I saw that we still need letters of encouragement. I want to write one for the artists and writers, from an old fogey who's been writing for more than four years.

I counted the sections that Ticktock had titled "Dear readers" and "Dear Artists and Writers" to be letters of encouragement, as they seemed to fit the format and style, but it sure would be great to have more, if you find time ^^ Only if you have free time. All righty, I've received NTReaders from weaponstar and she's now residing on my sideaccount Perdix, and I can upload the petpage =D Check it out. www.neopets.com/~NTReaders . I've also rewritten a few of the sections, I've got a couple more left to do, and I might do a little reordering of the sections so the stacking order makes sense. A couple days ago I tried making divs for displaying the fanart in the fanart section; I think it's working well now, though internet explorer is being finicky with me trying to align content in the centre.

Dear artists and writers,
Greetings from within all the wet fish Mr. Insane chucks at me for every time I mess up the NeoQuest II plot with my half-baked stories to our talented Neopians!
There is a reason why the Neopian Times is a fill-in-the-blank news source. It needs people to contribute to make it what it is today - a wonderful newspaper full of comics, articles and stories of all shapes and sizes. Well, sort of, since comics do have a size limit...
Anyway, as I was saying, you guys are awesome. Maybe some of you have yet to make your mark in the Times, but I encourage you to keep trying, because without you guys, the Times is nothing but a mere blank page with blank links and no pretty pictures. Your ideas make the Times a colorful and diverse read for Neopians around the world, and they always have for the past several years.
Sure, we don't get much from this gig - perhaps a prize here or there for every special issue, the golden quill trophies and an avatar or two - but isn't it reward enough to know that there are readers always waiting for us to come up with more new things? It's one thing to read something you have accomplished; it's another to have someone else read it and give you feedback. Kinda gives you a sense of pride, does it? And it's simply fun to draw and/or write, am I right?
Take it from an old fogey who's been with the Times for more than four years. I am proud to say that writing for the Times has also helped me improve my writing style considerably and meet new friends with whom I share my interests.
Here's to many more great ideas!
~Kat (precious_katuch14)

Thanks for the letter, Kat, I've put it up now ^^ Ok, did a couple more things on the page today. www.neopets.com/~NTReaders - Finished all the retyping of the old text except for the Highlights section - Added credit to everyone who posted in this thread under the contributors section (sorry if I didn't get your neopets username) - The page now has a counter at the bottom! Yay! - I put the buttons section in a scrolling div. Tragic, yeah, but I have a bit of an instinctive aversion to large long tall sections that people have to scroll down past in order to get to real content. - Since I realised that fanart might contain spoilers, I made an image to put in place of the spoilerish images in the fanart section to force the reader to consciously paste in the url for the full size image, but only if the image does contain spoilers, so non-spoiler images can be seen directly on this page. [/long roundabout explanation] Still need to: - Get fanart xD - List button-makers - Maybe re-order the page? Plenty of stuff for you to do, Tiger You just being active on this thread has been wonderful. If you want you could also write something, even if it's just a paragraph, as a letter of encouragement. Or maybe recommend something for the highlights section? I don't know. Actually I'm a little bit annoyed with the highlights section at the moment. I'm not going to be online much next year (I'll be in year 12, my final year of high school) so I doubt I'll be able to update it much, and I don't think I can (or should) depend purely on other people sending new links for that section to keep it reasonably updated. It's always looked kind of small, too. I think it's a good idea in theory, but I'm not sure if the effort of updating it would be worth it. I don't want it to remain small and un-updated for long periods of time. That's why I don't know if I should axe it or not. I mean, if it can be kept updated, so much the better, it would be a useful section, but as for now, I think if it stays small and old maybe it sends the message that only that small selection of stuff from the NT is worth reading? I don't know. What do you guys think?

Nat's username is nativsis, and TC is tambourine_chimp. Great job, Pacmanite! =D If I get more free time, I might make a letter for the readers next. We need more featured pieces, it seems, and I think I should start digging up some that deserve the spotlight. It would be nice to have different stories/articles/comics in the spotlight every week or so, but then that would be a lot of updating. ^^; I wouldn't be able to keep up either. *prods college*
