Rider's explanation as to how magic works. The three were silent for some time. Sammy was the first to break the elongated stillness, her attention turned to Rider. “How come I’m the only magical one in the family?”
Rider made a face. “What you mean?”
“Think about it, mom. You’re a human…. Thundy’s a human… Crystal, Hu, Xiv, and Dan are all humans –”
“Barely,” Rider muttered underneath her breath. “But go ahead.”
“No, what I mean is that you’re all normal. You don’t have any magical qualities. You’re not a magical being. You’re human. I’m…not. I’m a sorceress? But why? How does that even work?”
Rider rocked her head back and forth, almost like a nod. “Sammich… I know what you mean. You’re thinking being magical is genetic… It’s not. I hate to say this, but you’re kind of like a mutant.”
“What?” Sammy said. “Mutant? But…how? Why?”
Rider smiled slightly. “You know, you sound a lot like me, when the doctor told me that you weren’t human. I remember it exactly; he said to me, ‘Your daughter, Sammy, she’s… Not normal. We examined her, and it turns out her genes are mutated.’ I thought it was something extremely bad, so I started panicking. He said, ‘No, Mrs. von Zeppelin. It’s nothing to panic over; I’m sorry if I scared you with the way I worded it. Your daughter is a magical being.’”
“So… It doesn’t have to do with genetics?”
“No, not at all,” Rider said with a reassuring smile.
“Did the doctor tell you exactly how being magical works?” Sammy asked.
Rider shook her head. “No, he didn’t. But I researched it on my own, especially when your powers began developing. I had to figure out some way to prevent you from burning down the house!” Rider laughed quickly, but continued her story. “You see, Sammy, there’s something in your DNA that’s been screwed up. A genome, I think they’re called, got mixed up, and that’s how your DNA got written. With the mistake. But not just any mistake; the normal genome-thing got replaced with one that’s more rare. Now, you know about your cells, right? And how they make proteins and such?”
Sammy nodded. “Yeah, ribosomes make the protein.”
“Well, the mistake that was written in the DNA told the ribosomes to make something other than protein.”
“What?”
“A magical energy.”
“And…that’s what comes out of me?” Sammy asked in wonder. She looked at her fingertips.
“In a way, yes,” Rider said with a nod. “When the protein leaves your cell and goes into the blood stream, the magical energy goes along with it. And when the blood mixes with the energy, it turns into a more…tangible form.”
“But…how is the magic able to pass through my skin?”
“It’s just how it is. It’s a supernatural energy. The magic is probably only thing that can pass through the skin without damaging the skin.”
“But how does it work? I just think and it happens?”
“If that’s how you do it, then that’s how it works.”
“Oh… Well, yeah, that’s how I do it. Focus all my energy on a target, and then release it all.”
“Well, there’s your answer!”
Luke, who was silent through the entire speech, finally started laughing. Sammy shot him a confused look. “What’s so funny?”
“Rider,” he said through chuckles, “I never knew you were so smart!”
“Hey, now, I’m not an idiot.”
“It’s just more fun to act like one,” Sammy finished for her, breaking into laughter.
“Exactly!” Rider cried, joining in with the amusement. And, just for comic relief.... “So, what’s there to do today?” Luke yawned. He let go of Sammy for just a second to stretch his legs and arms.
Rider shrugged. “Anything you want, really,” she replied.
Luke thought for a moment. Suddenly, a smirked emerged on his face. “Hey, I’ve got an idea,” he said.
Kat’s jaw dropped. “You’re still alive?!” she cried.
“Nice to see you, too,” Luke replied, rolling his eyes. Sammy, Ery, and Rider were in fits of laughter at Kat’s reaction. The five of them were in the Catacombs. Don'cha just love it when you know the plot and no one else does? xD |

I'm kind of subtly hinting at the main plot right now, because the real action doesn't take place until the MCs and a bunch of other forumers enter Nightmare's Dream Land. ... I need a new name for Nightmare's Dream Land. XD It reminds me of Kirby. |

Alright. So, as the story's progressing, the plot's changed a little bit. If you want to spoiler yourself for the entire plot of the story and ruin the ending, then look on. If you don't want to be spoiler'd, don't click on the spoiler box.
There are three "worlds" in the story. One is Intarwepia, which is basically like Earth. There is no main land in Intarwepia, but little islands scattered amongst the ocean. About maybe 3/4s of the story takes place in Enteedubelyueff, which is basically the NTWF, but the way I invision it.
The second world is Amaterasu. Amaterasu is like heaven, only underground. The Alternates live in Amaterasu, and only surface Intarwepia if they're needed or they're taken against their own will. Amaterasu is a very magical and angelic place. It has towns, but the towns are, like I said, more angelic-looking.
The third world isn't really a world, per se, but a creation of Nightmare's. It is called Reverie. Reverie is about the size of one town, and looks like a normal city, but it really isn't. Gloom and doom fills the atmosphere, and complete darkness surrounds the outskirts of the circular town. The darkness is called the Forgotten, because no one knows what's out there. Reverie is the home of Nightmare, the Day Dreams, and the Taken. The Taken are normal people, kidnapped by Nightmare when she conquers their home land. The Taken are forced to live out the rest of their lives in Reverie, under the cruel dictatorship of Nightmare. In the middle of the city, there is a large, crown-shaped castle. This is where Nightmare lives. This is also where the Day Dreams are created and trained.

THE UTMOST ALTERNATES AND THE TRUE ONES.
The Utmost Alternates are three Alternates who control the power of the Altnerates. The Utmost Alternates are Evangeline, Anxo, and Guinevere (they are siblings). While they do control the power, they do not know it. They live like normal Alternates. However, Nightmare DOES know that they contain the power, and she kidnaps them and brings them to Reverie. There she finds out that she is unable to harnass the power until the Utmost Alternates come in contact with their originals, the True Ones.
The True Ones are Sammy Cysso, Rider, and Ery (how's THAT for anti-climactic?). They, like the Utmost Alternates, have no idea that they are the True Ones. Also like the Utmost Alternates, Nightmare is the only one who knows that they are the True Ones. Nightmare finds out that it won't be as easy to get the True Ones, because they are under the protection of her sister, Pat Jade. Nightmare then decides to use other tactics. She kidnaps Luke, trains him, and makes him The Shadow. He then returns to Enteedubelyueff to capture the True Ones. However, the plot falls apart when Luke cannot bring himself to kidnap his own wife. Luke breaks his loyalty to Nightmare and returns to Sammy. Nightmare then finds that Fear, her right-hand woman, has kidnapped Bag without Nightmare's approval. At first Nightmare wants to punish Fear for bringing an unwanted to Reverie, but then she finds out that Bag is the husband of Sammy. Nightmare uses Bag as bait and gives Sammy nightmares of Fear doing disturbing things to Bag. When Sammy can't take it anymore, Nightmare opens a portal to Reverie. Sammy, Rider, Ery, and a few other NTWFers go through the portal and to Reverie.
And the battle begins...
