When I joined Neopets, I was stupid and I did not read the ToC. Just clicked "I agree!" and joined. Stupid Mina.
After actually reading the Terms & Conditions and talking to a friend, I've decided not to draw Neopets-related pictures anymore. I'm very finicky aboot people changing even one thing on my pictures and if the Neopets Team can do 'anything in the universe' to it... well, no. I don't want to draw their stupid characters, then. Poo on you, Adam and Donna. XP
There's more crap in my LJ but you don't want to read that tripe. :P
I hope it's alright for me to still look around here and comment, even though I will not be an NT person anymore. :D

I don't think they really would change it. The most they've changed one of my stories is just to combine some of the series parts, so just because they have the right to change your pictures is a whole other matter than if they will.
I'm not sure, though; I've never sent in any art to them, only writing.

I feel that just because the Neopets team says they can do anything they want with our art, it doesn't mean that it belongs to them. So, they can't claim any of your work as theirs, but they can use it for advertisement or that sort of stuff. I doubt that the Neopets team would ever do anything other than that much. Although I do think that their approach to the matter is a bit unprofessional. It kind of sounds like, 'When you send your stuff in, we can do whatever we want with it! Nyeah, nyeah, nyeah!' They really do need to change that. But, don't be discouraged by their claims. They would never do anything just plain awful to your work. I hope not.

I dunno.
Like someone said before, they could take our NT characters and make them into plushies. Zero profit and zero credit goes to us. That doesn't run well with me. n_n;;;

Not entirely true - you do get credit. Your username is still on every submission you make to the NT, to the art gallery, to all their contests. That's all I need, thanks.
I agree with peachi; personally I think it's more an effort to keep lawyers off their back if the issue ever comes up in the future, not a way to say "Now we can draw devil horns on your lovely Nimmo picture, so there!"

2 points. neopets changes writing.. because it's easy. just click your mouse and press backspace. to change art would be too tedious for josh. generally, if neopets wants something changed in art, they'll email you saying what's wrong with it.. or not take it...
also.. neopets will never make our characters into plushies. the only reason dr_death was made into a plushie was because he was already a neopets character. not enough people read the times to have rosemadder or al the chia plushies.

I never said Dr_Death was one of 'our' characters. I'm just saying "Yes, they could make plushies out of our characters." n_n;;; They can change our pictures, they can take our name off, they can do... stuff.

(i'm calling him lazy because the nt isn't out this week) like josh Oh, come on, it was the Christmas and New Year week. Do you expect Josh to go into the office on Christmas to slave over submissions to the Times? Hmm? He is a real person. Don't mind me.

yes.. i know i'm weird about the lazy josh thing. .i'm a bit of a moron this week, don't mind me
but really now... neopets can't say any of your art is theirs... or if you really are paranoid about it. just write your username on it constantly. hmmm.. that gives me an idea

Yes, but like I said in the 'Dr_Death plushies' thread, I don't think that means we don't have the rights to it anymore, just that they do too...so if you later decided to redraw a comic that you sent in to the Times and make it into a comic for a newspaper or whatever, you'd be allowed to do that...but I'm not sure. If you're really concerned about that, ask a lawyer or something, if you know one (unfortunately, I don't). From what I know of copyright laws, I think it also still means that they have to give you credit unless you specifically agree they don't...but I still say ask someone who knows a lot about law, because I don't and I'm probably way off on this.

I'm just saying "Yes, they could make plushies out of our characters." n_n;;; They can change our pictures, they can take our name off, they can do... stuff. There are enough users that do that anyway, to enter things like the BC and the like. Izzywizard just had her Ixi logo stolen from "The Lost Gift" to be used as an entry for an Acara, for crying out loud. Many places have the same kind of terms and conditions. In my company (and also when I was in the military), if I come up with an idea that can be related to my work, the idea becomes company property. I get credit for it, but they will ultimately reap the profits. Unless you are self-employed, you will find this the reality in almost any job you work. Oh, Mina, This is for you: Sae Hae Pok Man-hi Pad-u-ship-shio! (Transcribing Hangul into Roman characters suck).

They put your name on your work, they aren't going to change that all of a sudden for a few reasons:
1. They would stop getting submissions. 2. Josh is a reasonablre guy. If they ever decided to go TOO far, I'm sure he'd find a way to put his foot down, outranked or not. 3. The whole reason they say those things is to avoid lawsuits. They know if they did something drastic they'd get a lawsuit anyway.

Also, the worst change that has ever been made to one of my stories (though I haven't published many) is the changing of the word "kill" to "destroy". I got VERY upset about that, because the story I had put it in had special meaning to me and. . . well, to make a long story short that change, from my point of view, violated the spirit that I had written the story in. But it wasn't so bad that I even THOUGHT of going into a crying fit and swearing never to submit another piece. The biggest change I've ever heard of in a story was the changing of an eyrie's color from blue to yellow. I have NEVER heard of ANY sort of change being made to an ART piece by the staff, though sometimes they will ask you to change it for them or else it won't get published.
And as insensitive as Streaming_Blue's remark was, it was a good point. The staff isn't going to take time to change your pictures.

how is it insensitive? what do you want me to say? it's true. there's no point in hiding the fact if it's the truth. neopets gets hundreds of submissions for artwork. it's easier to take a slightly less appealing one, or to ask the artist to change and re-submit the work, rather than to go and change the whole thing themselves,
