The NTWF Christmas Card Swap 2023 [LOCKED]

Y'all know what season this is, right?

That's right, Mariah Carey has officially been thawed from cryostasis again and also we put up our first chain of fairy lights yesterday because we live in the cold dark tundra and I would like to get off of the antidepressants eventually. Therefore, just the right time to revive my favorite totally-a-one-time-only event of 2018,

The 6th annual NTWF Christmas Card Swap

What if I'm (somehow still) new to this and don't know the drill yet?

Well, the good news is that the forum being as slow as it is, the past four threads of the swap can be found on the last two pages of this subboard, BUT as a concise summary:

• Everyone who's interested signs up for the swap.
• I facilitate the spreading of the addresses of everyone who signed up.
• Everyone sends a holiday card to everyone else. Preferably within the allotted deadlines but we're all well aware by now that we're all at the tender mercy of the various national postal systems, so, y'know, principle of common sense applies.
• Holiday cheer for everyone involved!

The Rules

can essentially be summed up with

• be an established member of this forum. Not that we really have non-established members any more, and I can't especially think of many reasons why a rando newbie would want to flaunt their real address on the internet for the purpose of getting some foreign holiday cards but I'm a child of the 00s internet so this rule stays steadfast.
• be mindful of how much money you can reasonably spend on taking part in this, because once you sign up, you're honor-bound to send a card to every other participant and the cost of living crisis has been making increasing fools of us all.

(Oh, I've been excitedly hoarding cards, stickers, and random other things for this exact reason. Hopefully I grabbed most of it when I was in NJ still haha).

I ended up skating the signup-locking into the early hours of the 14th because that's when midnight rolls over in NST. And also because I've had a lot of work these days and Monday night was a bit too bluuuhhh :'D

BUT I do believe we're all set for another year. Never too early to start sending because the postal systems are a bane.

(I thought I'd be clever this year and got some retro 80s cards from a secondhand store like a month or two ago. Then the Christmas cards hit the stores and we have an extra pretty selection this year, with none of the usual grandma glitter. Now I have difficult choices to make.)

I was excited to get to the post office today, since I was notified I had a package waiting.

What I was not expecting, however, was to also find a card waiting!

Dang that was fast! I've got all my cards picked out and sorted by recipient, and thankfully I had enough stamps leftover from last year that I didn't need to stop by the post office this time >w> Just gotta add the inside card contents and they'll be ready to go!

With December very nearly upon us, this is your friendly reminder to get 'em cards going, at least the ones that are due to fly to the destinations farthest from you.

I've sent all but one international card, hoping to work on that one today. Still have a few domestic ones but those will be lower priority unless my brain decides otherwise...

I'm working on mine tonight, but need to wait for my international stamps to come in the mail. Hopefully Monday.

By the way, I envy all of you that can write such great messages. My brain tends to go *derp* when it comes to writing card messages, and I vary like... one thing on each one. *blushes*
