Ahoy, all! So, it's finally come. The 20th Great Collab. Looking back, when June Scarlet, Ashten, and I made JCW, we would never have guessed that the Great Collabs would result... and would become the amazing, multi-contest events that they are today. Because this is a landmark collab, I figured it best to give ideas the time to grow and develop. As such, I'm going to have this board gathering up potential collab topics until February 15th. Then, afterwards, we'll put up a poll for 2 weeks and see which collab theme will come out on top as our next Great Collab theme! (If a tie-breaker poll is needed, we shall have one of those as well!)

How about the Obelisk and its surrounding factions?

How about the Obelisk and its surrounding factions? Or maybe more generally revisiting any and all plots and events?

All plots and events might be a little too ambitious. I think an average NT could have characters and stories spanning from a couple of plots worth of characters. Something a little more narrow would probably be better. That's my two cents, anyway.
I've found broad, but narrow enough to have a definitive theme to be good.

Would "Neopian History" be too broad, you think? Or maybe we could narrow that down somehow, like "Early Neopets" or something, I don't know.
The collab will be in the summer, we could have "Seasons" as a theme, maybe.
I'm also thinking maybe "Food," only something narrower and more Neopian, maybe "Weird Foods"? There's a lot of weird food on Neopets, it might be fun to focus on that.

Similar to "Neopian History" -- given the Archive project and the like -- I thought of a theme of "History of the Neopian Times (and possibly other Creative Contests)", which itself is fairly broad but might be narrow enough to work.
For some reason "Neopian Weird Foods" makes me think of a topic of "Differences Between Neopia and the Real World"... though much of my own work tends to try and bridge the two, haha.

From the Fancy Desk of Snaw NT Collab Retrospective - a collab issue about all the previous NT collabs created over the years. Music - Every entry can be themed around a music genre, instrument or a famous Neopian band. Glitz and Glamour - Can focus on fashion and grooming products. Plushie - Don't know if we ever had a plushie issue before. It can be about plushies and Plushie pets.

History of the NT/Collabs would probably end up being thematically quite similar to the NT's 50th/100th issues, imo.
Given that it's the 20th collab, I looked back at what was happening in Neopia 20 years ago, and wouldn't you know it that was the year Champions of Meridell was happening and Meridell was discovered. I guess this collab is aiming for June/July time? Discovery of Meridell day, ie. the 20th anniversary of Meridell's release, is in July. Might be neat to tie the two ideas together by having Meridell as the theme?

Since it's the 20th Great Collab, how about "1920s"? It's a bit similar to Glitz and Glamour I guess. @maya and I hosted a 1920s Customisation Contest in my guild a couple years ago and it was a big hit. The contest page was inspired by The Great Gatsby, so everything was golden and opulent haha. It was pretty easy for a customisation contest since there are so many wearables that are clear references to the 1920s. Tons of people also chose to interpret it as black and white, inspired by old cartoons and old movies. I don't know if it would work that well for a collab theme though. Anyway, I love all the ideas of themes here! Anything involving neopian history or archives or old plots would definitely get my votes.

Especially considering that Discovery of Meridell doesn't usually get special issues the way other holidays (Fyora Day, Jhudora Day, etc.) do. (You know what else is in July? My birthday. Just putting that out there.)

You know I'm down for a Meridell-themed collab!
Boy, I'm not sure of anything else. I'm trying to think, TWENTY, what theme could be big enough for that? A retrospective of all previous collabs feels too mundane and overdone. Infact anything I think of feels "been there, done that". Honestly just looking 20 years back and doing something based on something that happened back then feels like it would both be appropriate and give us a more definite theme.

And it there's a Meridell theme, by extension, it'll also be a Darigan Citadel theme. MD vs DC, anybody? We don't have to limit it to the plot, either, since we tend to let folks run with the theme however they'd like, although probably a good portion of the NTWF folks would go in the original plot direction.
