And it there's a Meridell theme, by extension, it'll also be a Darigan Citadel theme. MD vs DC, anybody? We don't have to limit it to the plot, either, since we tend to let folks run with the theme however they'd like, although probably a good portion of the NTWF folks would go in the original plot direction. And by that extension, Brightvale as well (I wonder if there ever has been a short story from the perspective of King Hagan during both the Meridell-Darigan wars, rationalizing his refusal to help his brother in the first and his inability to mobilize quickly enough in the second; and of course how that may have affected relationships). Ooh, here's an idea: The Kingdom Games! A multi-activity competition previously only held between Meridell and Brightvale, they're now adding Darigan Citadel to join and suggest games. Cheeserolling, jousting, archery, chess/Cellblock, Petpet battling, Yooyuball, Gormball, etc. (we can make a more solid list if it's chosen as a theme). May the best kingdom win! Also plenty of festivities, all sorts of goods being sold, food from all over the kingdoms on offer, and maybe a shenanigan or two (I can only imagine how the Meridell Knights, Brigthvale Guards, and Darigan Sentinels (figure giving them a special name is only fitting, Minion is too broad of a term) are going to coordinate). And while they won't compete I'm sure special guests from other lands can make an appearance, notable VIPs probably hanging out with the royals as they watch the games unfold.

Olympics would be something which has all the lands competing, this is a smaller competition to show off the kingdom's best, form stronger bonds between brethren kingdoms, and most importantly: bragging rights. I added upon to my idea to also include stuff outside of the games to better represent that thought.

Oh ho ho, I would LOVE a Meridell vs Darigan Citadel theme. Meridell’s silly medieval vibes make me love it as the fantasy nerd that I am, and I play DC in the Altador Cup (Tandrak Shaye, anyone?). If Brightvale were included peripherally I’d love that too since it’s my favorite land.

History of the NT/Collabs would probably end up being thematically quite similar to the NT's 50th/100th issues, imo. Given that it's the 20th collab, I looked back at what was happening in Neopia 20 years ago, and wouldn't you know it that was the year Champions of Meridell was happening and Meridell was discovered. I guess this collab is aiming for June/July time? Discovery of Meridell day, ie. the 20th anniversary of Meridell's release, is in July. Might be neat to tie the two ideas together by having Meridell as the theme? I love this idea, the medieval lands have been a huge source of inspiration for Neopian Times content (I am actually curious now and wonder how much focus each Neopian land has got across entries overall!)
Meridell Retrospective.
Medieval Retrospective, to be more inclusive of the other two?
This could also be a nice callback to the Brightvale University Collab that started it all! Other Neopian Lands could be included based on their relations to the medieval trio, or maybe their own medieval era history could be uncovered. Also, a Meridell theme would benefit me in particular because I already have ideas for entries for Discovery of Meridell/Brightvale days in store >.>
I would not be keen to make this into a more specific sporting competition between the kingdoms, at least not for all entries, it seems more like a project for individual entries, especially if individual users start coming up for rules for it.
As per other ideas, I always love some glitz and glamour, but a 20s theme would be inspired by real world history, rather niche for those not especially interested in history, and unfortunately, quite US-centric. So Glitz and Glamour on its own would be good - I had to check past collab history, can't believe we haven't already had this one?! Glitz and Glamour would be a festive theme to celebrate the milestone number of collabs, but it would not restrict the content to Neopian Times history or retrospectives, and be more open for newer contributors. It is quite close to Celebrations and Reunions and Performing Arts, but more extravagant than the former, and less creativity-oriented than the latter. And after this many collabs, we cannot avoid overlap forever, anyway!

My original idea for the theme was to focus on fashion and grooming products. But we can expand the theme if people want to.

My original idea for the theme was to focus on fashion and grooming products. But we can expand the theme if people want to. Ooooh it was FASHION!!! Thanks for the reminder, since the theme had been referred to as "Glitz and Glamour", I was interpreting those words more like a red carpet gala theme! A fashion and grooming theme would be delightful! Like a MAKEOVER issue! It could have plenty of customisation-related content for those who do the whole customisation thing, but also more creative in-world fashion in fiction pieces. Maybe parodies of existing fashion-oriented press, for articles? Maybe the grooming aspect of theme could include body positivity themes, both in ways similar to real life, and ways that include morphing potions and other more Neopian transformations. It could even be spun into a sort of retrospective for some entries, like younger Neopians cosplaying as older heroes in honour of ye olde plots! Also the issue would be close to Pride month and I'd love if it included some queer fashion somehow.

Hm, maybe instead of our usual voting for the top choice, and then later on picking the second choice for the collab after, we could plan to vote on two themes from the beginning? I mention this because one idea in particular has a lot of support, but I don't want the second choice to be left behind and forgotten until later.

Hmm like two themes in one NT? That might be a bit hard to follow if there are two distinct themes happening concurrently. For example, the medieval lands and glitz/glammer would not naturally mesh. I think one theme at a time is best since it mimics one of the calendar-themed NT issues.

It's what we end up doing anyway usually, I just want to make sure we think about it ahead of time this time.

Ooooh okay. Then yes! I think that sounds like a plan. First place is July, and second is next January.

I was neomailed this idea from 1jediboy and am reposting it here. ~~~ "The Heart of the Press" Description: The writers, journalists, columnists and artists all get together to do interviews about themselves, (likely their in-canon Neosonas), speak about where they work, (the physical publishing offices!), and discuss all of the inspiring memories that they've made over the years of their publishings!

I can see this for nonfiction, but how would it work in the Short Stories? (and Series maybe?) And for people who've never appeared with a persona within their work and don't have a persona or wish to represent themselves personally?
