That really stinks, TwillieI think I've seen one take down after publication during the Droplet era. However, it's because the submission was almost a blatant copy of something from a Chicken Soup book. Plagiarism of copyrighted material seems like a legitimate reason for taking something down. However, I have not heard of it happening in any other case. This is starting to worry me about my literature submission since I had mentioned faeries coming from another world and vaguely mentioning their original world running out of resources and becoming polluted. I wonder if I should just rewrite the whole intro. However, it would feel a little fake if I had to change my headcanon for this...

I wonder if I should just rewrite the whole intro. However, it would feel a little fake if I had to change my headcanon for this... This reminds me, one of my stories was plagiarized; not sure if that was when Droplet was already editor or if that was still way back during the Snowflake era. After I got in touch with the editor, that story was taken down. (It was also unfair because IIRC they got a custom pic for the story while the original, which was mine, didn't.) I think "other worlds" are still fair game so long as you build them from scratch and they aren't, say, Earth or other existing worlds in other canons. Or at least that's what I remember. Twillie I wish you the best, they should get back to you soon as they managed to put together a Koi Day poetry gallery and sent me a held over for my poem plus the congratulatory Neomail. I do think they may be basing it on number of entries but it's still weird that they'd count the number of entries and then not care that the new series section is still blank.

In terms of series they don't read entries to that section every week (presumably because it takes longer than other sections due to length). That results in less series getting published soon after submission and the net effect of some weeks having blank new series sections. I wouldn't worry about rejections -- I don't think series rejections are happening at a higher rate, it's just that the section has always been the least popular so has suffered the most from general NT population decline.

Makes me want to jump up and down and wave my hands like, "hellooooo, you need someone to fill your new series section LOOK AT MY NTWF DIARY, I HAVE SO MANY IDEAS ALREADY LINED UP I PROBABLY HAVE ENOUGH UNTIL I TURN 40"

*slams desk with letter* Latest update in the Neopian Times Saga!
This is my comic that was held over, by the way.
Wrote a letter to the editorial.

Hopefully your question to the Editorial will get a response, June Scarlet . Trying to figure out what's appropriate for the Neopian Times has always involved guesswork and going on precedence, but if they're gonna spring a new rule on people like this, it be better to give a heads-up instead of leaving us all in the dark. If it does turn out to be true that humans are no longer allowed, I can't find myself agreeing with that. While the presence of humans isn't my personal cup of tea, banning their use outright just feels unnecessarily restrictive. Not to mention it puts a kebob on authors/artists with well-established stories such as June and Twillie , which strikes me as very unfair to them and the hard work they've put in.
On a separate note, since it was discussed a few posts back, I do remember an article being removed after publication not that long ago. (Within the past year or two) In that case, it was a list-based article where it was discovered that the first letter of each entry spelled out a... rather profane message aimed at TNT. (It was obviously done deliberately, and not some sort of unfortunate coincidence)

I’m really sorry about the rejection June, I always find it a bummer especially if it was held over first I don’t understand that line of thinking, though, how you go from reading a comic, thinking it potential NT material, holding it over, and then only after that deciding it’s not appropriate (and potentially for similar reasons that other comics were rejected the same day it was held over). I really do hope Aesop answers your question this week! It really does feel like NT expectations changed overnight somehow, and now we’re trying to figure out the new rules without any guidance. Agreed Blueysicle, I really don’t think it’s a wise change to make. If Aesop personally doesn’t like humans in the NT, I can understand that, but he also needs to understand that there’s been precedent for this since the beginning of the Times and that kind of change will impact most NT regulars and hopefuls. If “no humans” does really become a rule, there’s nothing I could or would want to do to circumvent it. I just wouldn’t submit to the NT anymore. (Ah yeah, I remember that article too! But yeahhh, much more obvious reason as to why it was removed x3) I don’t have much update on my end. I did get an email back regarding my ticket, but it was just to say, “Thanks for writing in. We will report this to the Contest team to review.” So, I think it’s good that we’re able to push this as much as we can, since the editor/contest runners can’t say they don’t know about it now (especially with this receipt). But now it’s just a matter of waiting on them to say something. I’m also still skeptical about the whole new series thing. I can understand there being weeks with no new series since it’s the least popular and takes time to review, but what I don’t understand is leaving a series in the system for weeks with no word about it to the user, only to ultimately TMGE it when clearly there’s room. If they’re unable to take the time to read series submissions, then they may as well remove that entire section of the NT rather than unfairly lead on users.

Ugh, June Scarlet, I'm so sorry about the rejection. I don't think it was warranted. I hope that this week, your question is answered in the editorial because they have to release an issue now after not having one last week. Also hoping they get back to you soon, Twillie. Honestly if they have time to start sending out poetry heldovers, they have time to look at your ticket. Or at least, that's what I hope. +1 on the unfairness of removing humans entirely from the Times when they have been around, although always in owner roles, since time immemorial. Not only would it hamstring ongoing plots and stories, but it would also be one less idea for newer authors trying to get into the Times. I haven't written such a story in actual years, but when I was younger, I wrote a lot about my persona and my pets before I began building my own Neo-universe. IMO it's one way for new writers to find their footing in the Times - they can write about something already familiar (a human and everything that comes with them) and then build their own Neopets story around said human. Sigh. I'm already holding off on submitting anything else just to see if my series will be read if I have nothing else in the system (apart from my Great Collab piece which is still in the works).

If humans are no longer allowed based on an arbitrary overnight decision, what’s going to be next? Any mentions of other worlds even though said world is not Earth? I, like all of us, want at the very least some clarity here. Without it, I’m not sure if my intro to my great collab submission is acceptable or not.

doctortomoe I forgot to say earlier, but I’d like to read your article for sure! :3 downrightdude Aw, thanks Snaw! I appreciate the offer, haha. If nothing happens by tomorrow, I think continuing to push these questions is best, and the more people who do the more likely TNT may say something! On that note, I’ve still received nothing today. I messaged back on my ticket asking if I’d hear from them or the contest runners directly, but nothing in return yet. I also submitted an Editorial question, not about this situation specifically, but asking the best way to contact the editor. Today my patience has admittedly started running thin with the lack of correspondence, so the question literally just asked if nt_editor is still useful anymore. Not only in this situation, but in general for several months now, any message I’ve sent nt_editor has only gotten the cold shoulder in return, and I don’t know if anyone else has had successful communication with that account lately either. I’m also getting antsy because the weekend is looming, so less chance of hearing anything then, and I’d rather this not stretch out any longer than it needs to for fear of the issue falling to the wayside for them. Tomorrow will be interesting to see if they answered any of our Editirial questions, and also to hopefully get a better gauge on what may be acceptable or not by seeing accepted entries.

I did come up with an idea for an article, if it comes to it. "A History of Humans in the Times." An article like that would take a lot of research, so not my first choice, but like I said, if it comes to it. I'm still half-hoping this blows over, while being afraid it's just going to blow up.
I also thought of alternatives to June Scarlet being human. I thought I'd start with something simple, like arguing she's actually a Grey Faerie with red hair. If that doesn't work, then giving her obviously costume wings, like the Happiness Faerie. If that still doesn't work, then keeping her head off-panel by pairing her with short characters like Meercas, and if that doesn't work, then keeping her mysterious off=panel with speech bubbles. And if that doesn't fly, I can have June just suddenly, inexplicably become a faerie. Because of magic or something.
This waiting period is frustrating, I feel like I'm building up arguments for a debate when I don't even know for sure what the other side will say yet.

June Scarlet lol I was thinking about an article titled “Breaking: Pets all around Neopia disown their owners.” But I feel like the editor might not appreciate that.

I'm half-hoping we get an answer but at the same time I feel that we should get ready for a possible debate. I really hope you don't have to change June Scarlet in any way. Talking about the history of humans in the Times made me pull up my own NT history and see how many of my publications featured or mentioned humans. Short stories - 20 Series (counted by parts) - 24 Comic collabs - 6 Wow, that's a lot. June Scarlet lol I was thinking about an article titled “Breaking: Pets all around Neopia disown their owners.” But I feel like the editor might not appreciate that.
