I didn't see a thread for this. But Neopets will be at San Diego Comic-Con this year, I guess to promote a brand new mobile game. And on top of that, there's gonna be an Adults Only afterparty at the Salt & Whiskey inside the Horton Grand Hotel. Here it is, in silver and gold. You might've seen the banner on the front page. What's Happenin'?- Mingle with The Neopets team, eyewitness proof that they do exist!
- Wouldn't be a Neopets party without FREE LIQUOR, therefore you must be 21 to even come to this thing.
- Free Food, note how they mention the booze before the food. Priorities.
- Your own REAL MYSTERY CAPSULE swag kit
- There's gonna be an ALL-NEW MOBILE GAME that you can play, too!
When?Thursday, July 19th, 7:00pm – 9:00pm Where?Horton Grande’s, Salt & Whiskey 311 Island Ave, San Diego, CA 92101 Unlike the 2014 Comic-Con, this one sounds like Neopets is gonna get some respectable billing. The mobile game, I think that's what they're there to advertise. So if you have the time, money, location, and liver for it, show up if you can. I can't, but maybe you can?

Is there a source that JumpStart is going to have official presence at Comic-Con? I checked the exhibitors list and JumpStart/Knowledge Adventure/Neopets/NetDragon is not listed.

The ad doesn't say anything about them tabling/exhibiting at the con, just about an after-party. Soooooo perhaps they're just piggy-backing the event but didn't want to cash out for actual exhibition space? Dunno, ha ha.

Shinko- According to JN, the event is technically not a part of Comic-Con, so you're definitely right about Neo piggybacking on the actual event.

tbf if I was anywhere near San Diego or had plans to go to ComicCon otherwise, I'd be interested in this. Free food and drinks are always nice lol. It's nice that they acknowledge - on the actual site no less - that they are aware the majority of players are of legal drinking age. If they thought we were mostly children, they wouldn't have made it an adult's only after party.
As far as not wanting to shell out for a booth goes, I imagine that the cost of a booth at SDCC is probably fairly similar to the cost of renting an entire party room in a hotel around SDCC time AND maintaining an open bar tab AND paying for a (likely) catered buffet. Honestly it seems like that between potentially attracting new members (booth) or reaching out to existing members (after party) they chose to reach out. Besides, after parties are just as much a part of the Con scene as the Con festivities themselves.
I just hope that they don't wind up getting a bunch of belligerent drunks there that scare them off from wanting to interact face to face with fans.

It's nice that they acknowledge - on the actual site no less - that they are aware the majority of players are of legal drinking age. If they thought we were mostly children, they wouldn't have made it an adult's only after party. My first formerly-a-teacher thought was that they might just not want to deal with all potential ramifications of catering to an underage crowd xP When you set up an event for the underage, you're either responsible for anything that goes down or have to deal with all sorts of butt-coverage methods to make sure you won't be liable for whatever goes down (signed forms? require an accompanying adult? I don't even know what considerations would be at work at something like this, but I imagine there'd have to be a bunch of considerations all the same.) Whereas if you host an event for strictly adults at legal drinking age, anything that goes down will be between that adult and the security. (And that is why I never went on field trips. A student asked me once if I was taking honor students to out-of-school competitions that year, which is normally a sort of standing expectation for teachers, and my reaction was "ahahahano".) But yes, as for the piggybacking vs booth aspect, I'll grant that I'm not at all familiar with Comic-Con culture and everything that surrounds it, but I don't really see how the unrelated afterparty is a bad thing; I'd read it as setting up shop in a location that's already likely to have a chunk of their userbase attending so that said userbase would conveniently be able to check off that particular event at the same time instead of going to the trouble of making plans for a separate Neopets event. Particularly in the great big Americaland where making plans to attend an event that isn't conveniently in your backyard is inevitably a big undertaking. And if they had also set up a booth at the con itself, I might question their business sense because Neopets being as obscure as it is these days, shelling out booth money in hopes of snagging brand new users really doesn't sound like it'd break even, especially if they don't have funds to spare.

Lol just to clarify, I didn’t say it was a bad thing they didn’t actually have a presence at the con. Just answering Mac’s question with a theory about why there was nowhere confirming Neopets/Jumpstart at the con as a presenter. Sorry if I came across as harping or critical!

This whole thing seems so bizarre and off-brand to me. I can't wait to see the trip reports. A little off-topic, but this reminds me of the Rock-Afire Bar that recently opened in Kansas City. Same kind of deal, putting something family-oriented in a setting that excludes families specifically. The RAE and Neopets fandoms are similar in that a large chunk of them are devoted adult fans.

So this was put in this week's NT Editorial:
When I looked up that number under the Exhibitors list for Comic Con, though, "Fantom Studios" was listed as the one to be at that booth. When I look this name up, I don't get any better idea of who Fantom Studios is; the places I've checked so far that use the name have been in different languages.
I don't know if Jumpstart/Neopets is sharing the booth, or if they're somehow related to Fantom Studios? I'm no expert on how Comic Con works or all of Jumpstart's associated names, so maybe I'm just missing something obvious, but for now I am confused and curious on what's up with that.

Yes, Fantom Studios is related to JumpStart:
Fantom Studios -> Owned by Christopher Blake Williams Christopher Blake Williams -> Art Director for JumpStart Games
I actually forgot all about this, but the last time JumpStart had a booth at Comic-Con, it was also shared between Fantom Studios and JumpStart. No new developments here, but at least the afterparty makes a little more sense now.

Is Fantom Studios a real studio? Is it owned by JumpStart/NetDragon? This way of handling it is new to me, usually when a booth is manned by someone at a Comic-Con or an E3, it's represented by the company that owns it. But this, it sounds like Fantom Studios is just being contracted by JumpStart, and they don't actually own Fantom Studios.

Fantom Studios is the trade name Chris Williams uses for his personal art sales outside of JS. It's not a group. He's had a booth at Comic Con for a number of years now.

No? He's Creative Director at Jumpstart. That's his full time job. Fantom Studios is what he does in his spare time.
