Hear ye, hear ye, it is but one month until NaNoWriMo! *DRAMATIC GASP* This here is your general catch-all chat thread for assorted Nano babbling, whining, cheering, and camaraderie with your fellow writers.
Additionally, we're making a Nano chat on Skype. Let me know if you want in-- you can PM me your username, or post it here, and I'll invite you.

OH GOSH IT'S ALMOST NANO
Um um um I was so intent on not doing this story until I was done with this NT entry that clearly won't be done by November, but Muse has been way more chatty with the new story idea than the NT story so I might break that rule and make a sorry attempt at NaNo after all 8'D

*high fives all the other NaNoers*
Sup all?
Anyone who remembers my novel last year knows we're in the process of a trilogy, so book two is coming this year. Fun. I'm excited, I've already got a lot pieces. This is also the point where Muse messes with my head by suggesting all the other things we can write. Clearly her association with Carrie's troll hasn't done anything good for her personality.

Wasn't even thinking about doing NaNo this year 'til I saw the board go up, and then I was struck with a great idea.
This year's the best year for me to attempt NaNo since I've got more free time this November than I ever have before. I won't be aiming for 50k and I won't be trying to write a novel--in fact, I'm not sure if I'll be aiming for anything in particular besides just getting words out of my head and onto a page--but I will be writing.
For the past couple years I've been having sporadic ideas and visions for scenes, images, and events, so I'm thinking I'll try and flesh them all out and string them all together into one shiny colourful charm bracelet of a collection. I don't exactly want to say "short stories" due to the abstract nature of the works, but I'm planning on writing in a narrative style. Genre is some wacky mishmash of surrealism and avant-garde psychological horror.
I think this is something I'd like to eventually publish independently, so I may dismiss my phobia of posting my work online in order to share excerpts here on the forum. I think I'll try to be more active on the website itself, too.

I'm excited. I'm so excited! I've been looking forward to this year practically since last year finished. I might be a tad obsessed. But at least I haven't actually obsessed over it ever single day (I think) I plan on fully taking advantage of the meetups and wordwars too. :3 Both of those helped me so much last year, even if I was only able to go to the Kick-Off Party on the first day.
And NanoToons will be returning in probably about a couple of weeks! It's funny and quirky and I check on it every day during November since it's a daily comic and it helps lift my spirits up when it gets hard.
(I'm not sure if I'll count as a rebel, since this year I'm tackling a story I've written the first chapter to before. Partly because I'll be rewriting that first chapter with a different perspective for the main character).
EXCITEMENT IS HAD.

This is the first time in like eight years that I'm considering not doing NaNo for once, and it's like super weird to me because seeing this board go up makes me all like "YEAH NANO" but I have like... no idea what to do for NaNo if I do it. XD; I have some story ideas, but nothing I'm confident enough with to push to 50k. Maybe I'll do a mini-NaNo? Maybe I'll use the time to actually work on my big Christmas project? WE'LL SEE.

My local group has been doing some serious planning since the beginning of last month. We agreed on dates for the write-ins (not really a problem; after doing this for several years in a row we know what works for us), secured tables at the places we want to have our write-ins, we agreed on the theme for our local board, we already got our pep-talk-writers lined up (we are doing local pep-talks in addition to the regional and general ones as the regional ones in the past were found lacking) and a friend and I are busy swapping snowflake-method-steps to keep us on track regarding the serious planning for our novels. Now the NaNo-Nook is back, so all that's missing is the NaNoWriMo-reset. Which, according to my ML-friend is due any day now. *is one happy NaNoer*

Looks like they have more problems relaunching the site this year than in previous years. I hope this isn't because of the idea of making things easier by keeping active threads instead of having them created anew. Because if so: Scrach that idea!

So there's this song that made me think of my MC (in a really abstract way) shortly after I started listening to it, and it also inspired the idea I'm currently planning to use for the event that kicks off the plot. (Specifically, she becomes part-phoenix thanks to a potion that uses fire as a sort of "catalyst"... and said fire also burns her apartment down >_> Whoops, sorry about that MC) I was listening to the song (which now reminds me of MC every time I hear it, hah) yesterday and, out of nowhere, another scene involving fire pops into my head and may or may not end up figuring into the climax of the novel. Said scene will either be really awesome or really ridiculous 8D

I only decided this like a week ago but I'm doin' it. I haven't given it a shot since 2011, but this'll be my seventh go. I'm tied at three wins and three losses, so one way or another this year breaks the tie, haha. Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with!

Went to my region's Kick-Off party. It was fun. We're planning on an overnight writing session and we're still trying to figure out where we can have it. :3 The ML seems pretty stuck on trying to hold it at his place, though we're trying to convince him it's not a good idea because he has cats and some people have allergies. This is why I'm going to talk to some people at church this Sunday about using the gym. As long as we don't get up to anything crazy--in a bad way--it should be fine, I think. At least the ML said I can go ahead and try.
