As Harran exhaled again, she shifted on the rock face too abruptly and her armor scraped against it. It wasn't a particularly loud sound, but it was a sound, and her eyes widened slightly and she tensed, waiting to see if either of them had noticed. If Radu's ears wouldn't pick it up, Jasna's certainly might.

More fun with Harran. I am bound and determined to have at least one of my characters interact positively with Radu. His awful social skills have already upset Arin, put Jaxon on super overprotective mode, and put Leti on the defensive. I won't allow him to be relegated to forming relationships exclusively with my co-writer's other characters. xD I'm hoping Harran's stoic demeanor and resistance to being offended will help.

“Of course there was a mishap,” Mr. Edwards spat. He placed one foot on the black step. “It would be my luck that there was an mishap. Mishaps always seem to find me in the worse of times.”

“I agree. It seems like the poor guy just made wrong choices,” she said starring up into the wooden rafters. After Clyde was silent for a moment in shock, she added, “Oh, please do not think I endorse murder! I certainly do not agree with what he did. I just think he must have regretted murdering those four young ladies, after all, they did release him. I have never heard of a serial murderer to be released on good behavior in New York before.”

As Harran silently and dutifully held the water bowl, Arin looked back at Jasna. "A-are you hurt anywhere else?" she choked out, doing a poor job of disguising her sudden anxiety.

Arin's a terrible actor. And liar. Not that she does much of either.

And yes, I am aware of just how many of my characters' names in this story end with the letter N. I have no idea why. I apparently really like the way it sounds.

Harran paused, and then opened her mouth like she wanted to say something else, but then Minerva leaped for her back as though she wanted to climb onto Harran's shoulder. Her claws hit the smooth metal of the woman's armor and she let out a surprised squawk, scrabbling for a moment before falling back to the floor. With injured pride, she ducked around Jasna and elected instead to climb up to the bidurruti woman's shoulder, where she perched proudly like nothing had happened.

Arin and Harran looked at her for a moment, and then at each other, and laughed.

Any time I get to write Minerva is fun times.

You cannot turn away, though. Alone for so long, these forests and stars beginning almost to speak to you, there is a feeling that this is here just for you. Then you see something.

A small description that came to my head after reading an article about Chernobyl. Just imagine though a person or animal wandering through a forest at night with just themselves for company, not having seen another sentient being for a while. Then, in the middle of their vigil, they happen upon this giant fire pillar that burns through the silence, filled with foreign faces. Almost as though surrounded by aliens. It's almost supernatural to me. I just love the chills
