Email from a place I interviewed with on Tuesday: IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WHY AM I ALWAYS SECOND PLACE?! To quote Futurama "Second place? That's a fancy word for losing!" And maaaaan, I am so sick of losing on this front. Yeah, so, turns out they had another post and offered it to me. >_> I start at the beginning of August. It is only 15 hours per week, and it is working with visitors instead of objects, but it's in a museum and it is a step in the right direction. EDIT: Oh, and Ukraine qualified for the Euro quarter-finals. It was a good day.

One thing about living with my parents. While at my apartment, there were several recipes that I may have been in the mood for, but didn't bother because it required getting extra kitchen tools that really felt extraneous. But they're here! So I can do them now!
I made muffins. I haven't had muffins in forever. I could've done better on some minor flavoring stuff, but I can do it again! I can also do pizza stuff. And other cool stuff.
That's cool.

I'm unemployed again but I feel pretty good.
1. I can rest again (look, my profession is stressful, haha). 2. I'm away from the office politics and backdoor transactions to move the deceased president's assets and companies around and to new hands now that he's not around to object. 3. I'm also away from the management folk who wanted to get rid of me and especially this one who yelled at me in front of several people including the president's family and my superior just for not sending a zoom meeting link.
For now I can do some decluttering and stuff.

I got two days' training at the regional library. It's my right to get training and I am literally paying for it as part of my taxes, but it's still good to know that I am considered worth training. Also, since I was the one dispatched for this course, I was sort of representing my library. I was the least experienced but was included in group conversations and could share ideas without feeling like an idiot? Never felt like I was going to be Unmasked as out of place or anything. I even had a nice little brainstorm with the two other people who had seed libraries to promote. The course was a collaboration between science communication associations to give tools and methods on how to create an environment-themed workshop in a library, and while everything was crammed into two days and we had a bit of a speedy trial of various different setups, there's a massive amount of documentation on the way with a huge list of associations we can partner with in the region. It was pretty encouraging to know there's that many people ready to help with environment education.

My irl friend just gave me the Best Kind Words and I am like...she gave me a better perspective on something that had put me in an awful mood, so now my mood is like AHHHHHHH WARMFEELINGS and I am not good at mood whiplash. xD But in a good way. I just love her a lot!

Still finalizing details, but I've accepted a job offer to work part-time at the local hospital in food service. Better pay, every other weekend off, good benefits, I'm excited.

A few weeks ago, I tried to book a trip which did not happen. I was able to get some things refunded, but one of the train tickets was non-refundable, so I just wrote it off. Because of stupidity in booking it (got stations the wrong way around), it was not something I could use anyway.
Lucky for me, however, train was cancelled this morning. Which means I could get a full refund. I will not say not to a £20 windfall, and it means my idiot tax for booking that trip is more than halved.

We pulled off the children's musical at church this year. Kids go their music in late May and their parts in early June. After a couple of check-ins, we put it all togoeher in one week last week, with two performances on Friday. We had 30 kids going into 1st to 6th grade (the "main" age), 6 middle school helpers who stayed on stage with the kids and also had solos, and also a few high school/college aged helpers, two of whom also had solos. Considering we put it together on stage in one week, it was amazing. Far from perfect, but that's to help keep us humble, right? When the pastor's two boys both say they loved it, and one of them wanted to do it four more times, I'd call that a success!

That was a weird beach trip tonight. As soon as I got to the sand and waves, a torrential downpour fell and everyone still on the beach scattered. I found shelter under the small (not currently manned) lifeguard station, along with one family with two small kids who had also remained instead of running all the way back to non-beach. We waited about fifteen minutes there while they kept the kids distracted and while the gull mafia patrolled the beach, unperturbed. The rain made pretty sparkles on the waves and it was sunny, and the parents gave the kids hopes of seeing a rainbow. One of the kids promptly told me, "There's going to be a rainbow!" and lo, it was foretold, nay, scheduled. The rainbow appeared seconds after this and I got to point it out and they were pretty pumped. It was a big, full rainbow right above the sea. By the time the rain stopped and they went back, since my clothes weren't going to get any drier until the bus came, I got my after-work swim anyway, because I will swim all alone under a drizzle in a wavy sea right after rain yes all safe all good. So yeah I swam under a rainbow~

To counteract my rant, I'll say this: Job is nice so far, my co-workers are lovely, and it is really good to know that we are all in the same boat re: job woes and the current state of the sector. I've also remembered how much I enjoyed talking to visitors. Especially when a few of them are people considering the university, and as a double grad, I can give them all the details.
On a specific topic, I also have a co-worker who did the same course as me, only this year. Apparently they were taken to see our exhibition, because it was still open by the time they started the course (thanks, pandemic?). I was already very proud of that exhibition, but she told me that it was so good that it was actually intimidating for them to see. In particular, she praised my work on the graphic design and the flyers. She still has one. ;.; I was blushing under my facemask the whole time.
I am NOT unskilled, yo. I have the talent and ability for this. I just need to get lucky. And I really hope this job goes well so I can finally break in and do what I really love.

I feel like all of you, in particular will fully understand this mini-gloat...
I love the Harry Potter series. I've read through them twice (I know. Only twice? Read one!) So... I treated myself and used my Amazon gift card balance to buy something I wouldn’t normally buy for myself... The full Harry Potter series, hard backs (for nostalgia and durability!) We missed the delivery on Saturday and it required a signature. So Monday evening I went by the post office to pick it up. The following observations/conversation ensued. *Postal clerk looks at me. Postal clerk looks at box. Postal clerk realizes box is nearly as big as me.* Her: Can you get that out to your car? Me: I hope so! Her: Okay. Because I’ll take it out for you... *I try to lift it* Me: I’ve got it! *Thinks* I hope... Anyway, I successfully got it in my car by myself, and am officially the owner of the full HP series. I might be a bit giddy. And just because it's a fun/funny picture....

Yesterday, I shared with my boyfriend a couple of small worries and things that had been making me feel a little off, both physically and mentally. He told me some nice encouraging words and asked me if there was anything he could do to cheer me up. I asked him to videochat with me last night (after he was done with work) because just seeing his face and hearing his voice would make me happy. He went above and beyond, though. He set up a zoom meeting, surprised me by changing his background to a picture of Hogwarts, and then spent the call showing me cute, happy things he knew I would like. <3 It was lovely! And as if that wasn't enough, today I got a delivery... he also sent me flowers and chocolate!
I feel extremely lucky, and grateful, and blessed. It made me really happy and I can't find the words to say how thankful I am and how loved I feel. (My brain wants to default to "I don't deserve it", but shush. We've learned not to do that.) I'm just gonna share how wonderful it was, and enjoy it. <3

It's the best time of year
It's the time when the local craft chain has their Halloween decorations out (and for sale!)
