Rules and Gameplay post can be found here!
Summertime! Forumers joyously poured out of their homes, shedding their winter coats and snow shovels, replacing them with swimsuits and lawn mowers. Everything seemed great, but the forumers quickly discovered another year's wear and tear had done a number on the homes and buildings of their illustrious town. Cracks had appeared in foundations, shutters had fallen off windows, and the entire roof of the Forum Events rec center had caved in. Repairs were desperately needed. But one improvement stood above all others, and the forumers agreed that it needed to be their foremost priority: these buildings were looking faded and yellowed. It was time for a fresh coat of paint. Everything else could wait!
Smelling the sudden and plentiful opportunity to make a fistful of quick bucks, the forumers set to work forming their very own paint companies, in the hopes that the mayor would select them to repaint the many buildings of their town. But the mayor--fearful that selecting the wrong company would keep him from reelection that autumn--proved to be alarmingly slow in picking one, and the companies grew worried that the delay would keep them from making any money! So they took matters into their own hands: each company selected a unique paint color and began to paint the buildings on their own, and soon the town bloomed into bright and summery colors one building at a time. Seeing the competition intensify, the companies knew they had to work fast to claim the most buildings for themselves and therefore send the largest bill to the mayor. One night, a particularly sly forumer crept over to the house across the street from his own, painted in a hideous neon green, and repainted it in his much more pleasant neon pink. And thus the conflict exploded into no holds barred action: buildings all across town changed colors as fast as the painters could repaint them.
The mayor, dismayed at the war that had erupted over his indecision, knew that if he didn't step in now he would have no shot whatsoever at reelection, and thus he set some ground rules: after three week's time, all painting would cease, and whoever had the most buildings painted in their color would win the painting rights for the entire town. (Never let it be said the mayor was a particularly reasonable or cost-efficient man.) With the time limit set, the companies whipped themselves into a frenzy, painting and repainting buildings all across town in the hopes that they'd prevail and win the high-stakes game.
So, who are these warring paint companies? You, of course! Welcome to the Color Clash, the NTWF's favorite house-painting game! (The competition for that superlative is fierce, let me tell you.)
Working in teams of two, three, or four, players will form paint companies and begin competing for dominance on the map of our beloved town, painting a building each round while attempting to fend off your rivals through various strategic tools at your disposal. And if you manage to paint the most buildings by the end of the mayor's three week time limit, your company will win!
Gameplay will be split into two parts: Activities and the Game Board.
First, your company will need to gather your supplies. Painting all these houses costs money, after all! In order to gain enough funds to support your company, you and your teammates will need to complete activities from a list I will post once the game starts. These could be anything from posting around the forum to creating some art to solving a puzzle. These activities will be worth a predetermined amount of points, and completing them will grant your company the funds necessary to start painting buildings. Be advised that the size of your company also plays a part in how many points you will receive per activity: teams of two will receive more points per activity than teams of three, who in turn will receive more points than teams of four. However, teams with more players may be able to complete more activities, so it's up to you to decide what will be best.
Now that you have your supplies, you can begin painting! Our town is fortuitously divided into a perfectly square grid (which makes mapmaking quite easy). Every round I will post the town's map, color-coded with which buildings have been painted already. Then, your company will make a selection for your next building. Picking an unclaimed building will cost a certain amount of points, whereas selecting a building that was previously painted will cost extra (considering the extra supplies you'll need to cover up that foul purple the other company picked!). Similarly, picking a building adjacent to one of your own will cost less than driving all the way across town to paint. But choose your buildings wisely, for some have hidden advantages or disadvantages!
So, sound like fun? Then grab some friends and sign up below! Remember, you can play in teams of 2, 3, or 4. Post your company's name, who your teammates are, and your company's paint color (hex code). If you'd like to participate but don't have someone to play with yet, I can match you up with someone else, or you can post here asking if anyone would like to join up with you. :)
Ideally I'd like to get the game started within a week or so, depending on signups. There's no limit to how many teams can sign up, but I'm hoping to get somewhere around 5-8 teams. Also, be advised: gameplay will require someone from your team sending in a building selection once per day for the following three weeks (roughly the first three weeks of July). So if you'll be unavailable for part of that, be sure to team up with someone who can manage without you for the time you're gone!
That's it! Any questions can be posted here or PMed to me. :)
