I've finally reached my 50th Usuki Singing Stars story! Watch me spend 2 weeks writing it because of laziness.

For once in my life, I am (1) actually writing and (2) actually mean it If I kicked open a new weekly writing prompts thread, would anyone be interested? I'm trying to launch by getting a flash fic posted online every Friday, and that means I'm going through lots of prompts anyways, plus we haven't had one in like six years.

Breakingchains - I'd definitely be interested! Writing prompts help me a lot. (I usually end up crowd-sourcing Tumblr for things like "give me a word and I'll make a fic out of it," but that's limited by how many people give me a word. xD ) A weekly NTWF writing prompts thread would be cool and helpful! It'd also be a good way to feed my writing spirit a bit while I'm in the middle of research and writing for my thesis, since it'd be short enough to count as a break.

I'd be so keen! Sounds like fun. x) Whether responding to prompts with Original Stuffs or with my existing characters, I'd be keen!

I am sooo rusty at writing now ;_; maybe i need some prompts to help me... not suck... via practice! I think it's a great idea, and it sounds like it's already been implemented, so that's good!

Moni Yup, the thread is up so feel free to jump in! Hear you on rustiness. It seems like I can only ever write in a month-long sprint and then I have to re-learn everything after the next giant gap.

Aaaaand I've put out a new flash fic every Friday for a month!
It's not like that's a ton of words, but this is my first real experience of consistency and my understanding is that that's very important to draw in new readers. Really hoping to get something snowballing here.

In adjusting to my new work schedule, I haven't had as much time to write lately, so when I get the chance I try to make the most out of it. However:
Me: Okay, let's brainstorm ideas for this upcoming part of the story!
Brain: Mmm, how instead about we hyperfocus on this one character and their backstory?
Me: I mean... that information will probably come in useful.... a YEAR from now maybe....
It's always when you actually need to plan for it that a part of the story becomes boring to the brain xD; Time to power through lol.

Just finished typing up the scripts I have for my Crime Show comic series!
Looks like I have 19 of them. I did something different with them, I put them into a google slides instead of a doc. Each script is pretty short, four panels or less, so each one gets its own slide. This way it's easier to move around the order of them, and to also focus on just one script at a time.
But the important part of this post is that it's all typed up! Now I won't have to dig through my sketchbook to find them all back! They're easy to share! Yay!

I've gone to work the last couple days on an attempted story to tackle the Times again. I'm not quite finished, but I just came to the shocking revelation that I'm about to pass the word limit for the maximum a short story can be. This is so foreign to me, since the young Parrot who was constantly writing to get published week after week almost always struggled to get enough to satisify the MINIMUM (whether it be for stories or series chapters). I thought surely they must have changed the limits since I've been gone, and went back to some of my old stories to enter them in a word counter. Nope, not one of them over 4,000 words. And yet here's my new attempt, and hardly any actual plot has happened and I'm already having to contemplate if I'll have to break it into two parts. I guess I have changed as a writer in some ways I didn't even realize.
Might start up a separate thread just to blog on my progress and writing experience, but for now this seemed to be the apt place for that little observation.

Welcome to my world, Parrot. I have this short story written and almost done to officially jump-start (ha ha did you see what I did there) the second arc of A Hero's Journey and it's already more than 3000 words and I'm like "NO, YOU ARE NOT TURNING INTO A SERIES. PLEASE NO."
I had a series that was also supposed to be 6-8 parts long. When I submitted it, it was 10 parts and the final chapter was well over the short story limit.

It's definitely a bizarre realization. In my memory, the stories I wrote had so much happen, I can't even fathom how younger me kept the word count down. My piece ended up being 5690 words which is just wild to consider, since it wasn't an adventure, just a day in the life sort of thing. I could have split it into three parts, but two felt more natural and even. Too tired to type much more now, but sometime soon I definitely wanna run through the process (and mentally brace myself for having to tidy things up when it inevitably gets rejected.)
