Do you ever get so far in what you're writing and then start to falter because you're feeling secondhand embarrassment about what you're writing?

"Spunky twelve year old girl" probably describes like half my characters.
Who am I kidding? It's more like 80%.

"Spunky twelve year old girl" probably describes like half my characters. Who am I kidding? It's more like 80%. I know that feel. Sometimes, we don't realize until later that we've got a trend in our character types. As for me, I keep having that thing where I know what to do, I know things I want to put in a story, but I don't know what I can write in the gaps. I'm also...falling back in love...with old characters I missed so sorely during my time away. Help.

My favorite was when I had a spunky adult woman, and then I wrote an AU where she was a... spunky twelve year old girl. It was a middle-grade novel AU, it was a lot of fun to write and draw (it was a comic). It was for Wrighton, actually, which was a roleplay right here on the forum. Isn't that just the struggle of writing, though? Figuring out how to fill in the gaps? Though I find that by the time I'm done filling in the gaps, the original idea I had is no longer valid, and I end up doing something different anyway. Live that revival, Kat! Embrace the old characters!

Embrace the old characters! Haha, it's fun to write a character when they're at a different age! I've done that a few times back in ye olde NT days. I wrote a couple of characters as kids and it was fun to foreshadow something that would happen in the future. Then I wrote one of them as a dad, although there was not much change because he didn't have a big role. That was my struggle with the series I recently submitted. It became rather different from my previous plan and now it's ripe for a sequel. UGH JUNE...I'M EMBRACING MY OLD CHARACTERS SO TIGHTLY...I MISSED WRITING THEM even if I sometimes feel a bit embarrassed about them now because I wish I did some things differently but ah well. I'm too lazy to do any NT editing/writing. I have an article to finish (the third one I've written since coming back to the NT), would you like me to send you some extra energy? I'm plugging away at my stamp collecting rant and attempting to be funny (something I didn't do a lot before).

I don't really have the time nowadays to work on my never-ending series. GL with the article! I have yet to receive a reply for my Valentines story.

Thanks, I have yet to receive replies on another article, my issue 900 short story, and my massive 12-part series, probably because I have an article coming out this week already. (I think I shocked the NT editorial board with my spectacular rise from the ashes by suddenly dumping my pieces on them, oops.)

I can't wait for 900!!! My article I sent in January got held over! Congrats! Guess I'll keep waiting on my end, but at least I finally submitted my stamp collecting article. I've also got another short story idea that's been bugging me so I'm going to write that down now.

Finished that short story, which wound up sailing past the 3000-word mark. I'm proud of it but at the same time I feel like it's pretty heavy. Not because of death or anything like that, although there's a death alluded to in the story.

So after weeks putting off editing a short story I finished last August, today I opened it to do a re-read and edit and...it's actually good??!!? I remember this being so Below Average! Apparently time and distance really do help.
Can't decide whether I should submit this to a local magazine (I'm now too old for the one I usually look at, haha), or just post it on my poor neglected writing tumblr since it doesn't seem like it would work for most Real Writery Stuffs. It's under 1000 words so maybe writing tumblr is best.

TMW you get ready to write a battle scene and the music track you put on for the mood is entitled, "Numquam vincar", which is "I will never be defeated" in Latin. I WILL DEFEAT YOU, MONSTER SERIES
