Do we do spoilers for Nintendo Directs? Doing one just in case OK I'm moderately obsessed with Oatchi already. Just look at him. His little kangaroo hops. He is ridiculous and the goodest ever boi. I adore.
Also very happy to see that Super Mario RPG isn't dead! That game was my jam growing up.

I just finished playing Black Salt's spooky fishing game, 'Dredge.' Holy HECKITY you guys this game is incredible.
I especially recommend it if you enjoyed Sunless Sea or Sunless Skies. Very similar vibes, except you don't need to restart each time you die. It just sends you back to the last port you visited.

I thought it was pretty cool.

THOUSAND-YEAR DOOR REMASTER HECK YES Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is genuinely one of my favorite games of all time. I've been hoping for a remaster for a while now, but I was always afraid of that being a monkey's paw wish and that all the asinine mandates from recent Paper Mario games would be shoved in. Glad to see that's not the case. I kind of wonder if F-Zero fans are upset that F-Zero 99 isn't a new game, or if they're just happy that they're getting something.

Just started replaying some old but classic Gamecube and Wii games from the collection I have kept since the early 00's. (LoZ: Twilight Princess, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Ocarina of Time Master Quest Edition, SoulCalibur 2 (I will never forgive Bandai/Namco for making 3 exclusive to the PS2 even though it was a kind of a buggy mess)). Man, games have come such a long, long way since then. Especially from humble beginnings in the 90's. I kinda wish they kept some of the practices from back then into this new era. Most notably, making sure a game is as finished before release with as few game-breaking bugs as possible.

This year's finalists for the Video Game Hall of Fame has been announced, and Neopets is one of the finalists. I've also mentioned the news in Neopets General Source

A moment of silence for the Wii U and 3DS online services, closed permanently on the 8th.
I'd intended to play some final rounds of Splatoon on the closing day, but it completely slipped my mind. Such a shame that the game is now unplayable, especially since it had quite a healthy playerbase up until its cut off.
This of course, is the fate of all that requires impermanent supplementary services to function. Enjoy your online games while they last.

This of course, is the fate of all that requires impermanent supplementary services to function. Enjoy your online games while they last. Precisely the reason why I stick to single-player games for the most part. Any game that requires permanent online access to even play it is doomed to death eventually. To paraphrase youtuber Ross Scott, Games as a Service is a Fraud. It is not true ownership if the company can pull the plug on your purchased product at any time without any way to retrieve or get it working again.

I'm not a big screamer, but when they showed Metroid Prime 4 in today's Nintendo direct, the scream I SCREMPT. My sister told me she thought there was a trapped rooster somewhere
Metroid Prime is irrevocably linked in my brain to my coming of age. I was like 13 and had never played any game with a darker tone than like... your average Zelda? And I was ENRAPTURED. It brought out my inner edgelord, I felt like a big grown-up girl. The GORGEOUS HEAVY atmosphere the MUSIC the STORYLINES. I got 100% scans on every game and I read every single one of them. I absorbed the lore like a sponge I looked real close at all the models and creature designs I got all the upgrades. I was OBSESSED.
I'm just so so happy to see this game returning and it looks like the real deal. Cannot wait.

Nintendo Direct thoughts! It's been two days, so I don't think a spoiler tag is needed at this point? - Wow, Mario & Luigi Brothership is a surprise, especially considering the previous developer for the series, Alpha Dream, went bankrupt a while back. I've never played a Mario & Luigi game before, but I've been meaning to try out Superstar Saga since it's on the GBA NSO. - Speaking of NSO, I'm glad to see Metroid: Zero Mission now available, since that's another game I've been wanting to try out. I know the original Metroid is already available for the NES NSO, but I hear that Zero Mission is a HUGE improvement on it. - I can't believe Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon is getting a sequel. But seriously, I'm REALLY interested in Echoes of Wisdom. I can't wait to see the kind of creative, wacky stuff you can do with the echo mechanic, and being able to summon monsters to fight on your side is really neat. On that note, I've always believed that if Zelda is going to have a game where she's the main character, then she should play fundamentally different from Link. Because otherwise if they were just going to give her all of Link's usual weapons and abilities and essentially make her "Link, but female," then they should just make a female Link. So personally, I'm glad to see that her play style will set her apart from him. - ACE ATTORNEY INVESTIGATIONS COLLECTION! My god, I genuinely thought I'd never see the day that AAI2 gets localized. Though I am used to the fan translation's names for the characters, so it will be a bit tough to adjust to the official ones. "Eustace Winner" really threw me off at first, but I'm slowly warming up to it after seeing someone else make the point that his dad hated him enough to name him Eustace. - Ooh, and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond finally escapes Development Hell! I've enjoyed the 2D Metroid games that I've played thus far (Super and Fusion) but I haven't played any of the Prime games. But I know how badly people have been wanting to see this and for such a long time, so I'm happy for those that are happy.

Think of it this way too: calling him Eustace can also be considered a reference to Eustace Scrubb from The Chronicles of Narnia, who is also an insufferable know-it-all brat who gets some pretty good character development later. AAI2 is presently my favorite game in the entire franchise (haven't played Spirit of Justice or the Layton crossover, and I'm slowly plodding through The Great Ace Attorney) so I've been waiting for this. I've always doubted that they'd adapt the fan translated names so that's a small price to pay for an official localization. I'll just have to get used to the names again; anyway there are some fan translation names I've never really liked that much that I'd like to see changed. Some people are letting their outrage over the new names and Capcom not using the fan translation boil over into "it's different therefore bad" territory and cloud their excitement, though. It's a bit exhausting really.

The official new AAI2 character names will be hard for me to get used to, but I'll try*. XD Some of the fan translation names were great, but these characters deserve to be officially recognized abroad!
I am really happy that the game is finally going to be widely available outside Japan; it's my favourite in the franchise!
*Unless there are characters that have been given horrible SoJ style puns that don't work as either a name or a pun. In that case, I'll commit their official Japanese name to memory instead. :P

So a few weeks ago Banjo-Tooie came to Nintendo Switch Online. It's definitely one of my favorite childhood games, but I was never able to get all 90 Jiggies growing up.
Last night though, I was finally, FINALLY able to get that dang second Canary Mary Jiggy. Kid-Me would be so proud. ;_; Yeah, I know there's still the second Cheato page to get too, but shh, let me have this.
(For the unaware, there are two mini-games in Banjo-Tooie, both involving a race with a character named Canary Mary, that require the player to button-mash the A button. The second race is rather infamous because of how Canary Mary's AI will suddenly speed up if the player mashes too fast, meaning that you basically have to trail her for most of the race and then pull ahead at the last second. Good luck figuring that out as a kid, though)
