I've been replaying the old Zelda games on discord with some friends and it's been fun. I got into Zelda in the NES days but this is my first time replaying the oldest ones since I developed more of a head for game design, so it's interesting to be able to break down what works and what doesn't and what the developers were getting at within their limitations, etc..
Like how I can tell now that Zelda II was really rushed in development, or how Zelda III was a response to the criticism of II because it very deliberately returns to form in a lot of ways. I love this series.

And here I thought the Joy-Cons were bad (especially the left ones). Then again, I did own a N64, but never played it to the extent where it wore the control stick down and I didn't have that many games (Mario Kart 64, Pokemon Stadium and another game that I don't remember the name). While the N64 trident and Wii Remote are both bad controllers for different reasons, the Joy-cons are arguably worse when it comes to value and quality control. (and with Nintendo's big bank and experience in the industry, there's no excuse for it.) Due to the design flaw, the N64 controllers' joysticks will all fail after around 8-10 years of heavy use, which was well past the console's expected lifespan. The Switch's joysticks, on the other hand, can start wonkin' out after 4 months or earlier of light use. (This is how Nintendo ended up in so many lawsuits - the high fail rate combined with their exuberant price really put the "con" in joy-con.) Arlo's videos from 2019/2021 on the subject are still relevant:
Nintendo's greed has been shining brightly in the last couple of years, and it's not a good look.

Nintendo Direct tomorrow at 2 PM PST / 5 PM EST.
Considering that Tears of the Kingdom will be out in May, I'm really hoping for a big, beefy chunk of information about the game. Or if not that tomorrow, then at least an announcement of its own dedicated Direct later on.

Switch turns 6 years old this year. I've been wondering if its run is soon over, or if Nintendo will keep it as their primary console for a little longer.
I still don't own a Switch, but there are Switch games I still want to play, so I guess if a successor is on the horizon, I'll hope for backwards compatibility with Switch games, and controllers that don't break in two weeks. :P

Gosh I hope for backwards compatibility if they bring out a new console. I only bought my switch a couple years ago! xD
Here EB Games does a deal where you can trade in an older console for a reduced cost on a new one. I only have a switch lite, but could still be worth looking into hmmm...

The Nintendo Switch was released in 2017, so it'll actually be six years old this March. Nonetheless, I am wondering what their next console will be and when they plan on releasing it. Though I'm personally in no great hurry for one; I'm still fine with the Switch for the foreseeable future.

Gosh I hope for backwards compatibility if they bring out a new console. If they bring out a new console? As long as Nintendo stays in the console market, it's an inevitability! The only question is when... XD The Nintendo Switch was released in 2017, so it'll actually be six years old this March. Don't you understand, 2020-2021 counts as three years!7 was a typo. XD

This Direct seems tailor made to make Ace Attorney fans suffer. Pretty much every detective mystery game BUT Ace Attorney got announced. D: Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games! Surely Pokemon Gen I - III will be included at some point, right? I still own all my original cartridges, but I haven't checked them in a while so I'm not sure how well they work now. So it'd be really great to have them on the Switch. Also, I'm a little surprised that the first Super Mario Land isn't one of the games they announced, but did show the sequel. I do hope that's coming too at some point. My memory from that far back is foggy, but Super Mario Land is possibly the first video game I ever played. I wasn't very good at it back then, so it'd be nice to give it a revisit. Aaaaa, I really would have liked to get a more in-depth look at Tears of the Kingdom, but I'll take what I can get. I do like how Nintendo probably saw all those videos of people making flying machines out of mine carts in Breath of the Wild and went, "Nah, I think we can do better than that." xD

Wow, a new PL game. Good to see, especially since the developer Level 5 had been so quiet. I thought they were done for when they shuttered their NA operations. Two years isn't enough time to have got my full money's worth out of my current device. Those were my feelings when they brought out the Switch to stuff the Wii U under the rug. XD I bought the Splatoon/Smash Bros bundle, then two years later BAM, new console and Wii U support instantly dead. x_x

Thanks to Blueysicle posting it via the Pokemon Fanclub, this is a quick reminder that both the 3DS and Wii U E-shops will be shutting down this month. If you have any purchases that you want to make, better make those purchases before the 27th.

A quick PSA to those getting it in less than two weeks, but footage of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is apparently leaking right now, so be sure to take whatever measures you deem necessary to keep away from spoilers if you so wish.
(God, these are gonna be a long eleven days...)

An overall minor detail in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that has nothing to do with the story or anything like that, but I'll put it in a spoiler anyways: I am SO glad that the game lets you keep your horses from Breath of the Wild. I was kind of wondering before the game came out if that would be possible to do, so I had a big grin on my face once I got to a stable and found out that was the case. So yeah, really happy that I'll have my old buddy for the new adventure.
