So, Nintendo will be returning to E3 this year on June 15 with a Nintendo Direct and Treehouse, although with Covid still raging, E3 will be digital this year.

With Nintendo's E3 Direct coming in two days, now seems like a good time to make some wishes and predictions - or in other words, a post that will most certainly age horribly in that same timeframe. I do know to hype responsibly, so I'm not expecting every or most items here to show up. But I thought it might be fun to see how many (Or few) of these actually appear. - I think the only thing that is guaranteed to show up is the next DLC fighter for Smash. Just one this time. I don't think they're going to show off both of the last two. I say that because I'm going to presume that they're still intending to have Fighter's Pass 2 end late this year, and I can't imagine that the pandemic has put things ahead of schedule. As to who the fighter will be, I want it to be Phoenix Wright, but I think it's going to be Crash Bandicoot. He would complete the major console triangle by being primarily a Playstation representative, has had presence on Nintendo consoles, and is particularly popular in Japan. The only thing I think might throw a wrench in that is Activision throwing Toys for Bob -the developer that worked on the remakes and Crash 4- off to the side to be on Call of Duty... duty. That feels like Activision doesn't have much interest with doing much with Crash from here on out, which would be odd if he was going to be in Smash, something that would definitely spark even more interest in him. Then again, it wouldn't be the first or last time Activision does something stupid, so who knows. Plus, I know I'm being a bit of a hypocrite downplaying Crash's chances for that reason, since I wished so hard for Banjo and Kazooie and was thrilled to finally get them, despite very much being from a dead franchise. - I do think Breath of the Wild 2 is going to have at least some presence. (And I HOPE that's not just wishful thinking) I'm pretty confident that E3 is the "later date" that Aonuma mentioned in the last Direct. I'm not expecting an in-depth rundown of the game, but I'm optimistic for a new trailer and a name. Maaaybe some more footage during the Treehouse. - Speaking of Zelda, probably more on the Skyward Sword remake? Oh, and probably news for the Age of Calamity DLC. - There wasn't a Pokemon Direct this past week like I thought there might be, and we're well overdue for some more news on BD/SP and Legends. I think the former will definitely be in the Treehouse, and maybe the latter too. Hopefully it won't be as disastrous as last time. - I had a dream last week that they revealed a new F-Zero game. I have absolutely no interest in F-Zero. So maybe it's a prophecy? Eh, who knows, I'll throw it on the list anyways. xP - Shin Megami Tensei V releases sometime this year, so there's a decent chance for a new trailer. A port of Persona 5: Royal would definitely have a "wow" factor, but I'm pretty certain Atlus is still sticking their fingers in their ears on that one. - Maybe the time is right for a proper Metroid Prime 4 reveal? This is one of those things that gets predicted every year, but eventually we'll get it right! xD - Also, Pikmin 4 has supposedly been "almost finished" since the Wii U era. The port of Pikmin 3 last year apparently did well, so perhaps that might start enough of a spark to put it back into development. - Lastly, just to complete the borderline-vaporware triangle, perhaps Bayonetta 3?
- I really, really hope they've got a big update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the works, and that we'll see a bit of it at E3. I'm gonna put a few items in a another spoiler, since they do concern some leaks and rumors that have been floating around: - A new 2D Metroid was one of the things that got predicted along with a new Paper Mario last year, so maybe they might show that off as kind of a "while you wait for Prime 4" sort of deal?
- Ace Attorney 7 is supposedly in development, so I'm crossing my fingers for that. (Best case scenario in my eyes would be a Phoenix in Smash reveal leading into AA7, or vice-versa) This year is Ace Attorney's 20th anniversary, so there is the chance that Capcom would rather have their own presentation for that, though.
- More recently, there's been rumors floating around about the Super Mario Odyssey team working on a new Donkey Kong game. If that's true, then I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the Direct. In all, though, the only things I feel very confident in seeing Tuesday is Zelda, Pokemon, and Smash. If I managed to predict much more than that, I'd be impressed. xD

With very little information released on BD/SP so far (other than the release date), I wouldn't be surprised if there were more info and/or gameplay footage released. Legends probably won't be showcased until later this year, seeing as it is a 2022 release and the news article on the official Nintendo site did mention showcasing games releasing in 2021. And I definitely hope there will not be any bombshells dropped (like, say what happened with the base games of Sword/Shield).
As for Age of Calamity, the first wave of the DLC is expected to be out this month, so I don't think it will get an in depth look with Treehouse, considering the timing. An announcement on when the DLC will be live may be made, but we'll just have to wait and see. More news on Breath of the Wild 2 would be nice.
Speaking of DLC, based on previous experience (well, mainly Three Houses and Sword/Shield), unless it was Smash, DLC are rarely showcased, only announced in trailers. Even then, Smash will showcase the DLC fighter at a later date, so it definitely won't be included in Treehouse.
If P5 Royal does make it to the Switch, I will be a surprised camper, despite playing P5 Strikers, which is a sequel (as well as a couple of Persona related games).

2022 release date or not, Legends still releases only two months after BD/SP, and I just can't imagine Game Freak remaining completely silent on the former until the latter is out. Plus, just by the nature of BD/SP being remakes, longtime fans more or less know what to expect from them, whereas Legends is the game that they need to put in the effort to drum up excitement for and give us more information. Besides, Nintendo's announcement said "mostly 2021 games," not "only 2021 games." Oh, I'm definitely not expecting a full showcase on the Smash fighter at E3 either - just a reveal trailer. Like you said, that will probably be a month or so in the future going by past trends. It's really hard to say ahead of time what will be in the Treehouse, considering that's something we typically don't find out until the Direct itself. The easiest guesses would be Pokemon and Breath of the Wild 2 - that is, IF Breath of the Wild 2 gets a new trailer. With three hours to fill, I would certainly hope they got some nice surprises up their sleeves.

Some highlights from the E3 Direct The sequel to Breath of the Wild is currently set for 2022, while the 1st wave of DLC launches in 3 days. Also, a new Game and Watch series based on the Legend of Zelda will be out in November, with LOZ 1 and 2, as well as the GameBoy version of Link's Awakening will be playable.
The rumours about a 2D Metroid games was confirmed. From the trailer alone for Metroid Dread, it feels like a Survival Horror game at times.
There's a sequel to Mario+Rabbids coming out, along with a new WarioWare game.
Sister series to Fire Emblem (as both were created by Intelligent Systems), Advance Wars, is getting a remake. Both the first game and Black Hole Rising will be playable as Advance Wars 1 & 2-Reboot Camp

Person: Play as just a regular non-supernatural guy, doing regular non-supernatural things. That's it. Metroid Prim: Samus' latest intergalactic mission, but done in style with an extra-glamorous suit. Ace Attorney: Justice for Al: Defend Phoenix Wright's latest client, a waiter named Alfred Dente, from a false murder charge after the famous chef Mac Roni is found dead in an upscale Italian restaurant.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fur: The Mushroom Kingdom faces an unprecedented crisis as Cat Bowser's hair coats every conceivable surface in the land, and it's up to Mario and his new Lint Roller power-up to save the day.
Pokemon Moo: The only Pokemon in the entire game are Tauros, Miltank, and Bouffalant.
(This is fun, but wouldn't this be better as a thread in the Games board? )

(It probably would be, but I'll participate here anyway.)
Lie is Strange - You start off with one lie, and build it on with more and more ridiculous lies and see how far you get.
Earthbond - You're reconnecting with the Earth and doing environmentally friendly tasks as you abandon your old life in this roguelike mostly-peaceful survival game!
Ace Attorney: Trial and Tribulations - Like the original game but you only get one trial because it's a demo. Of course, you get the shortest case.
Left 4 Dad - You're a single dad on your own now! Try to help your baby grow up to be the best they can be! Left 4 Dad 2 - It happened again! How does this keep happening to you?! The DLC expansion that gives your baby a sibling.
Bishock - You're bi! What?! A slice of life dating or friendship simulator that explores identity.
6 Seconds! A bomb is falling! But you don't have time to hide; now you're a mutant prowling the post-nuclear-apocalyptic world.
Tomb Aider - Some tomb robbers keep getting into and messing up your archaeological dig, just when you've found something big! Help protect the tomb long enough for your team to finish!

Some real GOTY material in here. XD Gave me a good laugh.
(I can make a thread for the Games board if there's sufficient interest, but my post was just for a bit of a laugh when the idea popped into my head. I think a game thread based on this would dry up pretty quickly. There are only so many video games to remove letters from!)

I'm so happy that the Nintendo Switch OLED model has finally been announced!
I don't want one, I'm just glad that now maybe people will finally shut up about the "Switch Pro" leaks and rumors that came out on a near monthly basis.

Post by Killix on Jul 6, 2021 17:14:00 GMT -5
Switch OLED is... egh. It's just like a regular Switch with all of the same features and performance issues, but with a different type of screen that is an inch larger. (Note: OLED screens suffer from burn-in. Be careful.) Oh, and it's more expensive.
So... only marginally better when you play it in handheld mode, but... there's already the Switch Lite model dedicated to that, and it's much more affordable. This isn't what the "Pro" model wishers were hoping for - they wanted to see 4k display options and improved specs so that games don't stutter and crawl like they do on the current models. This will not satisfy that crowd. X'D
Even I don't want one. Not for an inflated price with no real performance improvements. I kinda regret holding out on buying a Switch to see what the new model would have to offer.

Yeah, I was kinda jumping the gun a bit on my previous post, and had made it before actually reading too much on the Switch OLED. xD Definitely doesn't seem like it adds enough to justify the bigger price tag, so I can understand the disappointment for those that were expecting something more.
Nonetheless, I was still getting sick and tired of constantly tripping over "leaks" every time I turned around that said, "My uncle at Nintendo told me that the Switch Pro can play games at 4K, has a terabyte of internal memory, a battery life of 48 hours, can make toast, cure the common cold, and it's coming out tomorrow." (Obviously a bit of hyperbole there, but clickbait videos and articles weren't exactly hard to find, even if you weren't actively seeking them out)

Picked up my switch! Am gonna try grab Animal Crossing tomorrow, with a voucher I forgot I had. Don't want to play anything too attention-hoggery until I finish Dragon Age on my xbox, but Animal Crossing is fairly chill and should be fine.
If we've talked before and you'd like to exchange friend codes, PM me or ask on discord! Am keen to collect some more friendocodes. =D
