Aside from Pokémon, I’m also playing FFXV. Does anyone actually enjoy driving the Regalia around? To me, it’s just annoying. It's pretty irritating, yeah. You do have the ability to fast travel for a small fee, which is what I did 90% of the time once I unlocked it. Fast travel makes things better and so does the supercharger so I can actually drive at freeway speeds. The empire keeps sending airships every time I get out of the car though. I do like the combat though. The story is a bit iffy as we are fighting yet another evil empire after I just beat a game where I was fighting the Adestrian Empire.

Hoo boy do I have Issues(tm) with this game's story but it's not because of the empire thing so much as it's mostly because Squeenix broke my heart and stole my kneecaps

FFXV really is a trash fire, but once you know about its total disaster of a development, it all makes sense why it turned out the way it did...
(If it feels like the story was a constant battle between two writers with different ideas of what the story should be, that's because it is! :D)

Squeenix broke my heart with KH3 which I have not finished yet. FFXV and KH3 feel like a race to the bottom honestly. At least FFXV has decent combat.
Now they are dividing the FFVII remake into multiple releases. I don’t have a PS4 so either I wait to see if it’ll come out on Xbox or determine if the PS5 is worth getting.
What is it with Game Freak, Bethesda, and Squeenix all breaking hearts nearly around the same time? I guess Pokémon isn’t so bad. It is a little boring, but it’s not unplayable.

The games industry has been... struggling lately. Mostly with greed. Leading their products to the status of incomplete, buggy, rushed games that unfairly crunch the development teams and ultimately end up disappointing the consumer.
(Though, FFXV is a bit of a special case as its development was a nuclear train wreck. The whole project kinda collapsed from within... which is what happens when you have two directors who can't agree on what the story or gameplay should be like. One wanted a linear story and game play focused on the main character's romance, the other wanted an explorative open world with focus on brotherhood as a main theme... yeah. Kablammo.)
This is the reason why Indie stuff has become so popular in recent years.

This is the reason why Indie stuff has become so popular in recent years. I might want to point out that not all Indie games were popular and/or successful. One of the most notable failures was Mighty No. 9, which was funded by Kickstarter and produced by Megaman creator Keiji Inafune, mainly due to the troubled production the game suffered and some questionable choices made (like attempting to create a franchise and another game, Red Ash, before the game even launched).

I know that not all Indie games were successes, that's not what I'm claiming. The increase in mainstream attention given to Independant projects is what I'm referring to by "popularity".
"Indie" is grabbing attention. So many gamers are sick of certain AAA developers and their anti-consumer practices, and are now just looking elsewhere for games. (This is part of the reason why Kickstarter games get funded so quickly. It's a shame when people take advantage of it, or just don't deliver what they promise.)

Well, The Outer Worlds and FE: Three Houses are two games I was very satisfied with this year. Pokémon Sword is okay, not too great. Some of the new Pokémon are cute I guess. I wouldn’t call it a total trainwreck.
Anything good on the Indie side of things that came out this year? I don’t follow indie games as much. I’m mostly into RPGs. I do prefer 3D environments over 2D. FE and Pokémon are generally exceptions to that preference.

Geodude 🌻 : I haven't played it for myself, but I know that Untitled Goose Game (Yes, that is seriously what it's called) was released earlier this year with a lot of fanfare, so there's that.

I had a bunch of coworkers talk about that game. It seems more like a puzzle game? I’m on the fence since I’m not sure if it’s a game I will enjoy. I guess I can’t really say that without even trying to play it though.

Untitled Goose Game is a hoot. It's a very artistic puzzle game, but unfortunately also quite short.

The name, Lunafreya, confuses me. It’s probably because they tried to mix Roman and Norse mythology into one name. I guess it sums up FFXV’s lack of direction. Well, if the story was good, I wouldn’t care much. They could name her Lunaathenafreya if they had a good plot.

Well, Lunafreya is a whole can of worms on her own. X'D She wasn't even supposed to be in the story, originally. Her role was occupied by a completely different character up until late in development (Stella). Lunafreya replaced Stella when Tabata took over the project after Nomura left. He (hastily) rewrote a bunch of the story, actually. Reaaally wanted to push that romance-based plot he wanted. This is why everything about Lunafreya is dissonant, confusing and unfitting to the story. XP
(I think while playing through the game, you can almost see the exact moment when Nomura left and Tabata was like "great, now to take the story where I want it! Goodbye open world, goodbye brotherhood! It's linear romance time! Mwahahaha!" XP)
I seriously recommend reading up on the game's development. It's a fascinating trash fire. (Like, an entire floating barge of garbage doused in gasoline, set aflame, and sent off to its final resting place in the sea.)

I reached the dreaded Chapter 13 and decided to go the shorter alternate route because these final non-open world chapters ruined the game for me and now I just want to be done.
