So if you've at all been following this thread, you can probably guess the topic of this post. So I'll skip any sort of preamble and say: We now have a baby, and it's a boy. We waffled back and forth a lot in trying to decide a name, and finally decided (by which I mean, "kinda-sorta agreed a couple of days after the kid was born that this is the one we're leaning toward") on one that means "traveler/wanderer/wayfarer." So since the name Wanderer is taken on our fair forum and Wayfarer sounds a bit pretentious, let's call him Traveler. I won't go into the details of the delivery, since I think Huntress will want to choose what to say about that, but everything went well and both she and Traveler are doing fine. He was born on the morning of the 15th, and we stayed in a room at the birthing hospital for three nights after delivery, which seems to be the standard practice. That time was basically the tutorial level for How To Baby; we got semi-regular visits from midwives and doctors who did various tests and checkups on both Hunty and the kid, and walked us through how to do the necessary baby-caring things. (Turns out babies don't actually need much. Keep them fed, clean, dry, warm, and comforted, and they're pretty much good to go.) They discharged us this morning, which was good because Hunty and I were both starting to get cabin fever; but also seemed like a horrible mistake on the part of the hospital because they're leaving us of all people in charge of a baby and couldn't they see we aren't the sort of people you trust with a baby and WHO EVEN APPROVED US FOR HAVING BABIES ANYWAY? There've been several times over the past few days when I get this creeping dread and think, "Oh man, what did I get myself into, I have actual responsibility for another human being and anything I do could mess it up permanently and I'll have to give up so much stuff is this something I even want to take on?" But then when I start getting those thoughts, I look at the new baby - my new son - and all the fears and worry melt away. It sounds cheesy, and maybe it's the hormones or the instincts or whatever, but all that's left instead is "It's OK, I can do this."

Congratulations, Frunty! Glad things went well and everyone's in good health after the delivery. And glad you're doing well, even through the "oh my gosh we're in charge of a baby" anxieties. I think you two can do this. ^^

Congratz XD Glad to hear everything went well. Now to watch the shrimp ninja grow!
(I always think that when I have a kid, I will be staring at them nonstop to make sure everything is all right... I do that with kittens >_> So I think I would be worse with a baby XD)

By all accounts we could've nicknamed that kid Mobster because man, he's got a way of pulling put-'em-up faces. Fortunately for him, I like him too much to be publicly sharing any photos where he looks like a cranky old man who's just learned that some disgustingly liberal young politician has pulled ahead in this week's polls.
(But really, he's the cutest bestest adorablest baby in existence, objectively speaking.)
(I may be biased.)
The name was tricky business because we needed one that would be pronouncable for both families, would contain the letter R (that's a thing my family has, the letter R makes a name strong), would sound good with the last name and would not associate with any annoying prats for either of us (particularly difficult, because we've both worked as teachers :'D) The concept of being responsible for the life and wellbeing of another human being for the rest of forever continues to be all sorts of terrifying, but hey. They say that a baby chooses the parents it wants to be born to, so maybe this one saw something in us that we ourselves still have trouble grasping properly.
Also, you guys and this forum continues to be awesome <3 Funny how through whatever changes and twists and turns life takes, you can always count on this place to be there for you.
