.... do I know you stoneman? Cause you sound a lot like someone I know. Specifically half my class. Not that that is a bad thing, there is nothing wrong with sarcasm and cynisism. It's just, I've heard this before... everything from u to the metric system. (LOTS about the metric system, it's a pain in the butt for physics) To quote my lab partner, "Yah, we can't use the metric system cause America likes causing problems for everyone else and we're dumb." I can see why it didn't get published, it's too insulting, and not everyone will take it as it's intendend. I thought it was funny though, "Write to your Congressman/person and complain! It's the American thing to do!"

Ember, I'm sorry if I offended you. But most of the americans I know (well, you guys are an exception ), are very prepotent and don't respect other countries/cultures/habits/etc. I was angry when I wrote that, and most of teh time when I'm angry, I don't think straight.

Stoneman, you should really be glad that Josh did not publish that article of yours. He has prevented you from having your inbox flooding with flames from users around the world.
Do we really? How well do you know America, anyway? You probably already know about the Americans the revolutionary war thing, and making assumptions that after the war, it became the duty of Americans to complain about things they don't like, and change it. Doesn't that sound familiar - So familiar that Americans are sounding like the tyrant named George III? So, for your information, being an America does not mean being a tyrant, complaining and demanding changes just because "that's not the way I want it to be."
"We" invented the internet? Obviously, you did not. And it looks like we don't really care about how words are spelled in Neopets, and only *you* are the complainer about adding a simple "u" to certain words because of the way the country does it. (...Since you are American and you all the best species in the world, as you think you are.)
Contradictory - First you said that Neopets is overusing the letter "u," also meaning that they're overpowering the so-called Americans. Now you are saying America is the is the powerful one. In other words, you are a hypocrite because you accuse them for doing what you are.
America's the best country, most powerful? Evidence please. Do you know about American's exclusion acts and torture to Chinese during the late 1800s and the early 1900s? Do you know how they take away Chinese rights and harass them with rioting and passing acts and laws specifically targeting at them? Wow, what a great country.
Your article makes me feel ashamed being an Asian-America, because of your "we"s, addressing every American when you talk about how superior America is.
-- YY (An Asian-American.)

I have offended people and for that I am truly sorry. But I must confess I am slightly bewildered by the vehemence of the postings against me personally because of this. As I said, it was my first article and it was shot down-- and rightly so. I am sorry that I posted it now, but my intent was not to make people hate me. I had hoped that people everywhere would see how wonderfully different we all are in our views of the world and to laugh at OURSELVES for our OWN biases. I have no interest in defending any part of that article, let alone PROVING my point. I wanted to make fun of American prejudices and vanity-- NOT anyone ELSE in the English speaking world. That I have offended people with an article that was NOT EVEN PUBLISHED, causes me great sorrow. I will never again post another article-- intended for publication or not. But I do thank you for voicing your opinions. Even if they attack me personally.

Sorry, stoneman, but I felt offended by what you wrote. i think some subjects are best left alone, because they can cause this kind of trouble... from my experience, almost every religion, language and nationality/culture discussion has a pretty bad ending, with people getting hurt or feeling offended. I still hate what you wrote, and I still have the urge to puke everytime I remember it - I guess that is not my type of humour. But you said you're sorry, and I am willing to forget everything I read in this thread. Will you accept my sincere apollogies for what I wrote that might have offended you?

I appreciate the apology, stoneman, and I too am sorry for attacking you in return, especially if I caused any hurt feelings. Perhaps your intentions were good, but it's just the wording of the article and the blatant generalizations that get under my skin, even if you didn't mean it that way. If it was meant to be humorous, remember that different people appreciate different types of humor.
That's probably the reason Neopets didn't publish the article in the first place - not that it was bad, but it could be interpreted as offensive. Our intent was not to be hurtful or shoot you down either, but just make our opinions (and displeasure) heard, same as any other article writer would do.
Don't take the response to this article as an indicator of how much we dislike you personally, or that you should stop writing completely, but rather as a simple reminder that in order to be likable and appreciated, humor should be universal, in a way that won't hurt anybody. Like hippie said, some subjects are best left untouched.
Forgive, but don't forget. Learn from this, use it to make your writing better. That is all.

I would just like to say quickly that I think Neopets should have different versions of its site for the users who speak different languages. For example, there should be an English-American and an English-British version, since many users are American and hence do not use the 'u' (I personally don't really care who people spell the word 'color' or 'fairy' as long as they don't correct me when I try to spell it my own way). There could also be Spanish, French, Italian, and any other major language.
Sure, I know it'll take twice as much programming and things like that, but when it takes a week to get any significant changes to the site, doesn't that show that the staff has more time than they think?
(NOTE: This post was made as a 'two-cents' sort of thing, and is not intended to disrupt any previous conversations.)

Ech! Bluedargon, are you nuts! That's way to much work over petty little differences! Different, languages I can understand, but different English dialogs? Ugh! Can you IMAGINE how long it would take the staff to get ANYTHING done, when you think about how long it takes as-is?
