With the snow outside, stores selling Christmas stuff and the TV showing Christmas shows and commercials......it's like we skipped over November! December came early this year! The company I work for left instructions for us to set up our Christmas displays on Halloween. xD It's nuts, right??!?? I was wearing my cute witchy hat and had hung spooky garlands around, while also changing everything to look festive.

I think this is counterproductive regardless of whether one has a preference for either holiday - maybe they want the place to be decorated at all times, but if there isn't a break / holiday cooldown in between "yay festive decoration" phases, I know the decorations would just fade into the background for me and I would hardly take notice.

Our store isn't normally decorated at all, but our marketing is themed (the bunny mascot is a lil ghost for Halloween, and then his reindeer boyfriend joins him on the Christmas posters/advertising.) The Halloween decorations were purely my idea and were for one day...and yeah, I was a bit sad I had to rush to do a marketing changeover that same day. xD But at least people liked my spider garland!

Found out today that World Diabetes Day exists, and that it also happens to be on November 14th. Guess I unintentionally celebrated by having an endocrinologist appointment today lol

So in July of 2021, it was brought to my attention that my purple nebula avatar is... not purple. So I changed the color profile on my laptop and used that avatar and the avatar image on my computer to ensure matching colors.
Fast forward to today, I installed an updated version of my OS for compatibility reasons and because the one I was currently using had less than a year to losing support anyway. As I was going around checking to make sure everything still worked and tweaking with little things that didn't, I noticed... the laptop's (wrong) default color profile was back.
So now here I am, again, using my forum's avatar as a way to check if my color profile fixes are working everywhere.
Thank you, forum avatar! You are far more useful than I ever imagined you would be.

Buckle up, for I have a tale of perversion and betrayal for you.
Thundy has introduced me to the concept of "Thanksgiving nachos", where you put all your Thanksgiving leftovers on nachos and eat them. We have plenty of leftovers, both from the Thanksgiving dinner I made last night and other food we've made over the week. One of those leftovers is a big box of an Uzbek dish I made called plov. It's essentially spiced rice with lamb chunks, onions, carrots, and dried apricots.
I asked tentatively if he thinks that the plov should go into the nachos. He said yes.
I am horrified. This is a an abomination in my eyes. Uzbek cuisine is beautiful and does not deserve to be abused like this. Thundy insists it will be delicious. The rice can go on top so it does not end up soggy. A heated discussion ensues.
We end it with neither side convinced of the other's point. It is at this point I realise I had not called my mum for a while, so I figure hey, I'll bring this up with her.
After the usual pleasantries of the call, I put her on speaker and ask her what she thinks of this horror. I fully expect her to back me up, given our respect for the great dish that is plov and general similar cultural upbringing.
My mum: "Well, as long as nothing is wasted, you go for it. ^^"
And that is how I was betrayed by my own mother and found out that the two people I love the most in the world would commit such sins against food.
I guess I'm eating nachos topped with plov today. Also bolognase sauce and chicken.

Every time I get to host Five Letter Logic, part of me is strongly tempted to use "hyrax" as the word ever since I heard about them. ...But then I always chicken out and try to think of a slightly less obscure-feeling word. But anyway, please. Look at these adorable units with their little vampire-like incisors.

Gran bought me a sweater for my birthday. It was expensive, and while I liked it, it was not top of my list of things I wanted, especially for the price. I got guilted into keeping it, but I refused to wear it. Until today, when it was cold and I couldn't find my other sweaters.
It is so soft and comfy, oh my gosh. I can never admit this to her because I would get hit with "I told you so" very hard.

At work today, I was extremely fressed and strustrated for four long hours and I don't think my brain is working correctly now. Yet somehow, I was able to come up with a clever little joke.

Edit #1: The first sign you're having problems is when you spend five minutes trying to remember where a certain machine is located in the building and it's in front of you and you're working on it.
---
Edit #2: Another sign is when you get finished with your shower and then realize you might have done the whole lather, rinse, repeat thing about four times. Yep, I'm clearly drain bamaged!
---
Edit #3: It just dawned on me that I seem to be unusually clever and humorous at the moment and now I'm scared!

I am never going to have kids, and never in a million years would I want them.
But being the old, all-knowing, give-no-crap matriach of a family, whose rule is ironclad and whose word is the last, who can put everyone into line with simply a look, and that seems to survive impossible odds...I have to admit, that would be intensely cool. And looking at my female relatives, I absolutely have that potential.
Will have to aspire for that while being an aunt. A harder position to get than as a grandma, but not impossible to do.
