Was helping watch my four-year-old cousin today. We got a text that Thor the dog would be coming along. So we're watchign the both of them, and my mom says "Hello Thor," which my cousin says is wrong, his name is "Door."
The text message definitely said "Thor," but cousin would only accept "Door." So we called this dog "Door" the entire afternoon.

I also have a young person story!
We were visiting family for most of this past week. The evening before we had to drive home, I made a small batch of mochi for everyone to eat. I had a good time showing my brother and niece how cool it is to mix up and make. Niece (now roughly about a year and a half old) kept watching with rapt attention and pointing at the mixing bowl. I probably added just a smidge too much water, which made the end product mochi even stickier than normal, but still delicious!
Anyway, we're all taking turns slowly enjoying our pieces, and niece continues to point at the plate of mochi and make the "more food" baby sign language motion. So my sister-in-law cuts off a small piece to give to her to try. Niece took the piece of mochi. Her expectant excitement slowly turned to quizzical examination at the texture, then it gradually became bewildered confusion when it stuck to her fingers. But then, as the mochi kept sticking and STILL KEPT STICKING, her expression continued and continued to fall. Her face went from confusion, to disgust, to dismay, to horror, into outright crying because OH WOO, WHAT MY ARROGANCE AND CURIOSITY HAVE WROUGHT UPON MY MERE MORTAL BEING, OH WOO, I AM FOREVER TRAPPED BY MINE HUBRIS, AAAAA....She stopped crying after her mom washed her hands. Part of us feels bad for laughing at her reaction, but just...something about how gradual and how huge the sheer range of her emotional journey was, was fascinating and hilarious, and. I'm sorry, Nieceling. x'DDD Sooooo, baby's first mochi experience. x'D I really hope we didn't traumatize her against it. I hope she gives it another try when she's older. (*edits just to clarify that she never even tried to put the mochi in her mouth* x'D *having it stuck to your hand is just that bad*)

People are discovering the Soviet version of "Treasure Island" through memes. The version I grew up with and objectively the best version. This was the version I was exposed to as a kid and haev loved for most of my life. Sorry, "Muppet Treasure Island" and "Treasure Planet", but you are only number 2 compared to this gem. It's worth checking out, even just to experience the meme origins.
...but have seen internet people referring to it as "Russian". It was made in Kyiv, you uncultured swine! We are literally having a war about this!!

Hey, can humans as a species please stop being so self-flagellating? Read an article today about meercats and how they are the species that kills the most of its own kind, with one out of five of them being killed by another meercat.
Top comment? "Probably does not even compare to humans". It got so many virtual nods, with people saying "I know, right?" or "So sad". Lots of agreement humans are terrible.
Except, uh, it literally said in the article humans are not even in the top ten. Maybe we can cool it with the self-hatred please? You're human, deal with it. Start by being a better human than the ones you think represent the majority. I promise it will make things better. It's easy to roll over and accept terribleness by just going "human nature, can't do anything". It's much scarier to actually try to change things and be optimistic.
(Someone did eventually come along to correct them, btw)

Tfw you impulse borrow a 600-page book from the library on one of those topics that grabs your attention for a few days before slipping away, and now you try and commit to actually finishing the book before returning it.
Not the first time this has happened, either. Ah well, I guess my impulse decisions here don't involve spending money, and I can support my local library in the process xD

I hope we will have OC-tober this year😊 Birdy is the one who usually hosts OCtober. I just looked at the tumblr blog that usually hosts it though, and it looks like it hasn't been active since March 2022, as far as I can tell. They have not posted a prompt list for October 2022. However, I wouldn't let that stop the creating goodness. I see a few options. We can roll OCtober into Artober here: ntwriters.proboards.com/thread/53852/artober-2022 and just do all the creating goodness in one thread. Or maybe we could create our own prompt list. I in particular was thinking about creating a prompt list for Artober because there haven't been any posted yet, and I'm not sure where to find them.

In an interesting twist, I've been contacted by a recruiter - for food service at a different hospital. That's a first. I've been contacted by recruiters before, but always for technology jobs. I plan to just ignore them, but I did find it funny, at least.

A co-worker commented that I seem to have lost weight.
If anything, I'm pretty sure I've gained some weight. xD I was just wearing tighter clothes than normal. And I guess I've been less stressed lately.
Never sure how to feel about comments of "you've lost weight" aside from "would be nice. =|"

Got a spam call not long ago. It looked like spam, so I let it go to the machine. And they left a message, so just to check, I checked it. "First unheard message.-WE ARE PROCESSING YOUR PAYMENT. TO CANCEL, PLEASE PRESS 1 NOW-" I deleted it at that point, but it's just. That's so brazenly obvious. xDD I mean, sure, I can make any sort of claim I want about people too. Thorn, thank you for signing up to be an organ donor. We are currently sending both of your lungs to Antarctica. To cancel the process, PM me now and send over your bank account number so I can confirm the cancellation.

With the snow outside, stores selling Christmas stuff and the TV showing Christmas shows and commercials......it's like we skipped over November! December came early this year!
