I wish Pokemon were real and that I had an Eevee to come snuggle me when I'm feeling horrible.
or...
I wish Sapphire, my toy kangaroo, was real so she could come snuggle me when I'm feeling horrible.

I'm looking up auto repair places because my car is broken beyond what I feel I can do. This site for a place I was thinking of going to for service (even though I have "meh" opinions about them (we don't have a lot of options where I live)), they had a page with comparisons. So I was all: "Alright, fine, I don't believe you, but I'll see what you have."
The page was offering price comparisons compared to other big-time service places or auto repair shops...
Except...
This place's site consistently gave higher prices for the same service? In one thing much higher?? There was only one where it really was the lowest price.
...Uh. Compliments to their honesty.

Witnessed a proper Humans Being Bros moment today.
There I am, walking down the street, when I see a car pulled over with the hazards on and the driver trotting to the other side right there in the middle of the road. Dude, not smart. We're talking a major five-lane thoroughfare with dense traffic, lined with gas stations and shops, pedestrian crossings few and far between, one does not just walk across this road at a random spot.
Kept walking and watching to see what the deal was, and that's when I spotted a Very Excite little shiba inu type doge tearing in circles across the lawn on the other side of the street. As one does. Driver guy made it across and squatted to catch the dog's attention.
Dog was all OMG YES NEW FREN and ran over to the guy. Because shiba logic. Guy held him down while the dog was doing happy wiggly-wagglies (RUNNING OFF FROM OWNER = EXCITE. NEW FREN = EVEN MORE EXCITE) and waited for a guy in a tracksuit who'd been running towards them after the dog. Driver-guy held the excited shiba down until tracksuit guy made it over and caught his breath, then tracksuit guy carried the dog off and the driver ran back across the road to his car.

Me: "Alright, that is it, I can't concentrate on anything until I do this thing that triggers my social anxiety, I am going to MAKE THAT PHONE CALL!! Gimme that phone number!"
Website of place I need to call: "Our phone lines are down at the moment. Leave a message somewhere, I'unno, maybe 'round here."
...Of course.
(Ended up doing a typed-up thing, which works better for me anyway. Given how phone-happy this place is, we'll see if they actually get back to me.)

I don't know how people can regularly produce social media content. I make one post on any platform and immediately feel like the dumbest person in the world.

*Goes to move spamvertisement posts from a spambot to admin review.* *Accidentally announces the post.*
Let no one ever say I don't make mistakes.
(If you saw a weird post get announced for like, 4 seconds, that's why.)

I read so many books as a teen that I either was too young to truly appreciate, or appreciated but do not remember. I need to re-read them. (Looking at you, Lord of the Rings, Earthsea)
I also need to read stuff I've never read before. =D;;

Was looking at behindthename for no good reason, and wanted to search for stuff starting with something, but didn't see a good way to do it.
Now in unix terminal, for those who don't know, the way you can list or do things when you only want to search part of the filename is to use * where there's uncertain parts. Like if you want to search "secretstuff.pdf" or "secretplans.txt", you would type "ls secret*", and it would pull up both if it's there.
So I thought... does * work for that search engine? I typed it in just to see, not expecting it to work because it's its own site.
...Turns out yes, yes it does work! (And based on one NTWF search, that also seems to work! (Specifically I went to the Speedrunning Fastclub and searched "Gotta go *" and successfully pulled up both results.))
I wonder if there are places it doesn't work, but duly noted that such is a trick is looking to be universal. That'll be very handy.

Something that I will always find entertaining is that there are four Matts in my year that are meteorology majors. And they're all friends, too, as my meteorology major is pretty tight knit.
Yesterday, my stat met professor pointed to the back of the class and asked Matt to answer a question. He said he thought Matt was back there at least. Three Matts were in the row he pointed at. One of them even said, "There's a 100% chance you get Matt."

Rant and a gloat all in one, so it goes here.
I am having huge anxiety about finding a job. I don't think I am going to get one in this economy and situation. Applying is exhausting and demoralising. But I need to remember I am very lucky and privileged to have a family who have stable jobs themselves and will support me. I need to focus on that instead of the self-esteem hits that rejection brings.

So behind our apartment building is a... well, calling it a courtyard would be too generous. A large, shapeless blob of open space bordered by the surrounding flat buildings. There are trees and unkempt grass and a few attempts at hedges, and the only roads are a few paths bringing cars to various parking areas. So overall it's a pretty safe place to let kids run around.
Or cats, apparently. Several times recently I've gone to take out the trash and passed by a pretty long-haired, white-with- black-spots kitty. The kitty is always accompanied by a slightly cranky looking older dude who stands by while it wades through the grass and scrabbles up trees. This seems to be a daily thing for them: man takes his cat outside for a romp so the cat gets some exercise in a safe area and they both get some fresh air. I've tried to get the kitty to come up to me, but it's still kinda suspicious (and so is its human, but eh).
Tl;dr grumpy cat grandpa is who I want to be when I'm old.

My homeland is technically classed as a "developing country". And on a rational level, yes, I get why. It's why I don't live there anymore, and why I am glad I don't. But my brain reels against that classification. I cannot think of my home as "developing". It feels wrong to me.
I don't want to label a place I love with such stigmatised words, even if they are true.

If you make a small batch of hot cocoa with half-and-half instead of milk + a ridiculous amount of cinnamon and vanilla, then set aside and keep refrigerated, it's a really great coffee creamer.
