I'm listening to the Legend of Everfree soundtrack, and it's pretty good. So at least if the movie sucks, the songs are pretty rockin'! :D We Will Stand for Everfree is my favourite song because Starlight Glimmer's VA is singing it. Her voice... *faints*
EDIT: Wait, wiki says that song is sung by Enid-Raye Adams, Gloriosa's VA? o_o Holy bananarings, she sounds a lot like Kelly Sheridan (Starlight's VA).
EDIT: Ha, wiki was WRONG. I just saw the movie and Gloriosa's singing voice is credited as Kelly Metzger. (Still sounds like Starlight's VA to me, though. XD)

Triple posting for the win, 'cause I just saw "To Where and Back Again" (Part 1) and I feel the need to comment. Rescue party of redeemed characters! We have Trixie, Thorax, Discord... and maybe two more? Y'know, to match with the main 6/elements of harmony thing. The elements of redemption! wooo!1one
This group is not complete without Sunset Shimmer. and the way they kept name dropping that random plot irrelevant SUNSET FESTIVAL was either a hint, or a huge tease.
Please Hasbro, let her join the main series. :'D If she doesn't show up, I'm going to express-mail all of my salt to you. Expect lots of parcels.

Connect Four! I win! Just saw the latest episodes, including the season 7 finale. "Shadow Play" spoilers *hyperventilates*
THE
DAZZLINGS.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
THEY'RE CANON IN THE MAIN MLP SERIES.
I kinda missed some of Stygian's backstory because I was too busy doing the mental equivalent of a keyboard faceroll of shock and joy.
So yeah, EQG is now 100% canon! Now let's celebrate by letting Sunset Shimmer finally go home to Equestria. 8D Also, they reformed the totally edgy PONEE OF SHADOWZ so uh, *snaps fingers* Let's get started on bringing the Dazzlings back home, too.

I need to watch the whole season, since there was barely anything talking about the new season, I sort of missed it all. I didn't even know there was a new season until midsummer XD

Killix I SAW THAT 8DDD So dazzling. I doubt they'll make another appearance, but it sure is satisfying.
Hi, this show is still a thing and I'm done watching this season already, huh. Not that many things to say this time, maybe a few comments. ... I never even commented on the end of last season, whoops. Got a lot to catch up on. My overall impression is that not much usually happens, and there aren't that many friendship lessons left to learn, unless it's Spike being clueless again or Starlight really learning for the first time. But there is a doozy episode here and there. Where the Apple Lies* The kind of comedy where a character starts with a lie and has to go to extremes to keep it up is a classic. * So much Big Mac voice! * Granny is boss. * When your characters have learned too many life lessons over time, flashback to a time before the show even began, when they didn't know better. * Spoiled Rich seems to have had a nose job. Fluttershy Leans InIn which she channels Iron Will and character development is thankfully not undone. Also, Group Projects, the Episode. Also, Knock Knock, who's there, it's Continuity. I'm glad they called back a character from a previous cutie map mission. The Mane 6 have got a big network, it wouldn't make sense not to use it. A Royal ProblemDidn't I post anything about this one when I watched it?? Really? Did the post get lost somewhere? Welp, commenting now. OK, that was an Episode!! I hope the VAs had as much fun as they sounded like they were having, because that argument between Celestia and Luna was tremendous. I don't think I've ever heard Celestia speak passive-aggressively or lose her temper before and that makes it scarier compared to her usual serene voice that we've heard for six seasons. The VAs managed to make them sound believable as two impossibly powerful cosmic beings - like, I could imagine the sky cracking a little bit while they were arguing. Awkward Starlight in the middle just added to the tension.
It's a good thing that Starlight has already been established as having uncommonly powerful magic for a unicorn, that way, the irreversible way she spelled the top alicorn princesses was more believable.
Starlight was really fitting as the one to resolve this. Twilight couldn't have done it, she's too proper, and definitely too nervous with Celestia. Only Starlight would have had the guts (and the anarchy-instinct) to casually put a spell on the two most powerful alicorns in Equestria. Awkward Twilight Musicbox for the win.
Celestia making breakfast is like a big reality TV star trying to seem all homely and normal. Celestia, OMW, why the heck would you throw away Luna's pretty breakfast when everyone else in the castle might kill to eat it? Way to think of royal charity and your loving fans!!! Heck, she could auction that breakfast and use the money to make a huge donation to more charity! Morning Luna is me.
Luna's nightmare was so fitting, I'm sure many people recognised the imagery of teeth falling out. I squee'd when Daybreaker Nightmare Star came in. So glad she made an appearance in canon - sorta. OK, she was really over-the-top mwahaha. I happen to like over-the-top mwahaha. >_> And I hope Nicole Oliver had fun with this too. It's just good to see what's lurking inside Celestia with all the great power and great responsibility.
I'm curious about Celestia's "you will never exist again" line. Does it only refer to Daybreaker's existence in the dream, or did she turn into Daybreaker for real long ago? Maybe they left it ambiguous as an opening.
... but which of the two sisters started raising the sun at the end? Show, if you make it necessary for an alicorn to raise the sun, keep it that way s(o.o)z Honest ApplePHOTO FINISH HAS EYES, CONFIRMED
I like Photo Finish Discordant HarmonyThis is slow-paced, but very cute and interesting so I have more to say, oops.
* Omw Fluttershy tea parties are adorable and I want a carrot-ginger sandwich with the crust tenderly cut off. ;_; How can Discord get so cute while keeping up his... discordity? Wow, this really shows the influence Fluttershy can have on someone. * Discord getting the idea to give something in return?? Omw. Time does fly. *dabs at eyes* * How did Fluttershy get to his dimension place thingy? * She must be the first pony to ever set hoof in the chaotic dimension. And all thanks to the magic of friendship. Making history there, Fluttershy. * I love how this shows their dynamic in more detail, seriously. The way Fluttershy lets Discord do wacky things inside her house without batting an eyelash, and the way he understands that she likes normal things even though normal is such a foreign concept to him. ;_; * I mean, he noticed that she seems to like gravity! * Why not sailin' Ceylon tea? * Piñatas hate bats. I'll take note of that. * Team of Discords having a makeover. I did not know I needed that in my life. * A Discord in a Fluttershy costume. I... I don't know what to say. * The decor of Discord's house, before and after makeover. That is well done. It looks impressively normal for the normal tea party, down to the ticking of the clock. Even the way Discord wipes his glasses, that is an impressively normal gesture. * Good job nearly breaking the spirit of chaos and then completely fixing the spirit of chaos with the magic of interior decoration, though. * Fluttershy how did you lift a sofa to the ceiling and manage to nail it there solidly... * Mary Poppins. Fame and Misfortune* Characters being logical - about fixing that poor old journal and just giving the friendship lessons to everyone because that's faster - leads to much meta. It was getting time for a meta episode. * This time, I think they're casually poking the fans who comically miss the point about the friendship part of the show. * Twilight learns to use the Royal Canterlot voice, yay! * Musical numbers don't work. Haha. * That's right, focusing on positive feedback is the right way. * Even "Stay in the friendship moment a little longer" seems like Twilight's answering a viewer who asked about a loose end at the end of episode - "but how are they gonna fix this??". To Change a ChangelingThere was a perfect opening for Pharynx to shapeshift into Trixie when she went to look for him, and then go back to Starlight and expose/exaggerate her plot, buuut that would have been way too predictable as a changeling tactic, wouldn't it. xD Why didn't Pharynx shapeshift into a second maulwurf? :/ (because it would have negated the need for a callback to brother bullying technique, yes, but still) This whole episode, with Pharynx being belligerent and stuck in traditional ways but also well-meaning and protective, seems like some kind of subtle attempt at social commentary... with a positive ending of course... >_>;
(Not much to say but quick mentions) It Isn't the Mane Thing About You: interesting topic and interesting pony for it. A Health of Information: Zecora gets some love! Also there are things that she doesn't know and that she can't fix! Nowai! Once Upon a ZeppelinCadance is so bae. ;_; You can tell her patience is wearing thin sometimes and she's doing her best to cope, and it's great how she knows her own boundaries and she helps Twilight with her experience. Twilight's mum is excellent.
Secrets and PiesSounds like they tried to recreate the glory of Party of One and MMMystery on the Friendship Express combined, and managed neither. I'm tempted to say that Dash should know better than to do that to Pinkie after so many friendship seasons, but the pies seem to be a small detail between other happenings, and this kind of awkward little white lie charade is something that just happens to people sometimes. Too many pies, though. They could have picked another kind of metaphor. Shadow PlayOK I *really* expected Twilight to know better, even through her rosy Starswirl-fangirling glasses. Was she under the impression that the guardians had somehow murdered the Pony of Shadows for good while in limbo? Was she under the impression that she could somehow filter the two apart? She sounds like she had completely forgotten that ShadowPony was a thing, at all. (Also, am I the only one who expected the villain to be Sombra for just a second?)
What a ridiculous friendship phail, ancient guardians. Omw. Newbs.
It's fun to have the ancient guardians meet the newer ones. Especially as the ancients seem to be staying in the present world instead of lingering as a vague presence that sometimes gives cryptic encouragement. They could have fun adapting to the present. This was not the most impressive of season finales for me, though.

So I finally caught up on this series. This and the EQG series. ...Have I not mentioned in this thread that I've been keeping up with EQG too? ...Guess I haven't. Well, uh, that's a story. xD See, the only time I mentioned it in this thread is when the first movie came out. The concept didn't really impress me; I only saw it out of curiosity, and then I thought it wasn't very well executed. So I thought "okay, I'll just ignore the series and focus on pony world." Well, you can blame Killix for this one. I kept hearing about the sequels and how they were better, and that Rainbow Rocks rocked. I was skeptical all the while. But sometime this year, I felt bored enough to watch a movie, and it was on Netflix, so I thought "okay, let's see what this is about." ...And Rainbow Rocks rocked. Completely redeemed the series for me. (I still like pony world concepts better, and sometimes I remember "I'm watching a high school AU." But there are enough good things in it that I'm willing to keep up.) A bit more specific thoughts on the EQG series that are spoiler (Talking about movies 1-4, the last one being Legend of Everfree): I didn't think I would actually like Sunset Shimmer after her first movie. She felt like an extremely shallow archetype who just existed to be a villain. But by the end of the second movie she had become my favorite character. Her redemption arc was really good, and how she handled it despite how much the whole situation was hurting her gave me a lot of respect for her, and I could also feel for her. Her song "My Past is Not Today" is something I play for myself sometimes, because I personally have a lot of trouble struggling with bad memories, especially of things I did that I'm ashamed of, so that song gives me a really good reminder to stay in the present. Especially if it's something I have no control over.
Also, regarding the third movie, she was good in that too, while ccementing that she's not a perfect character, which is how it should be. The second movie, she was a lot more focused on keeping on top of herself because she felt so determined to prove herself. Third movie, she has a lot more flexibility to be herself, and she was given a situation that made her more stressed to the point of lashing out in that one scene. Seeing that actually really helped to highlight her progress since the first movie (even the lashing out is a far cry from her old self, and it was for a situation where it'd be pretty easy to be angry), and show that she has to make an honest effort to fight against some of her vices and keep checking herself, an effort she's more than willing to give. Just... she's (sorta) human. So she's prone to make mistakes.
...Yeah, like I said, she's become one of my favorite characters. xD
(Side note, I liked the third movie as well. It may not have had the same stakes as Rainbow Rocks until the end, but I'unno, I had a good time with it.)
Though I felt she was portrayed too perfectly in the fourth movie. Kinda had a feeling that she could Do No Wrong. True, she's come a long way, but no one's that perfect. xD Maybe it's because all the focus of character development was more on other characters. I could see that. I'unno, I just overall wasn't enthused by the fourth movie. It had potential, I just don't feel it was executed well. (Also, they really need to not do romance plots. They replaced the love interest of A Guy with... A Guy. I'll admit, seeing Sunset try to help Flash through him losing his love interest was kinda interesting. But that doesn't mean I wanted FLash to be a love interest in the first place.)
I'm watching the first movie again just for the heck of it, and... yeah, old Sunset is a far cry from her current version. It's a bit more interesting now that I know more about her, but at the time I doubt she was written with that sort of development in mind. She is still pretty shallow in that movie. xD Just makes me all the gladder for how she's written later. (Though re-watching the first movie, I'm reminded of scenes where she played nice when she wanted to make someone else look bad. Even less reason for people to believe her during Rainbow Rocks. I can see from the rewatch that the way she acts then is different than when she's genuine. I'll be honest though, if I were a student there, I wouldn't have believed SS either. xD )
And yup, I did use an overall spoilerbox just to talk about Sunset Shimmer. xD To make it a little less her-focused, while I still don't think the high school AU concept is very engaging, there is something to be said about the plotline where magic is becoming part of a magic-less world and how it's caused problems, seeing how it tends to corrupt people who aren't ready for it, and when no one is used to it, no one's ready for it. Cue all the One-Winged Angels for whom magic falls into the wrong hands, which is... most cases. I left out the last three specials because they don't cover my overall thoughts, aaaand... I only watched them tonight. xD (Since they're on Netflix now.) My thoughts on them. (Spoilers!) So most of the specials feel pretty much like episodes, just with the human characters. There's clearly a tie between the second and third ones, and the first one is only loosely related to them. Dance Magic was alright; it has a few good lessons there and shows some good times with the Shadowbolts while giving them more depth. I was really happy for them when the ending came into place; it's really nice to see them working together.
Movie Magic... I may have had more fun with it, but I kiiiinda read the descriptions of the episodes before watching them and the description for the third one spoils the villain for the second one. So as soon as that character was introduced, I went "oh, they did it." Kinda cut out the suspense for me. But I wonder if I would've figured it out anyway. The ones the Humane 7 kept pointing too were Too Obvious; I probably would've figured it was someone else.
I wonder if the Power Ponies thing was an excuse to sell more toys in those models instead. Sometimes I remember that this is produced by a toy-making company. Which... really shows in a lot of episodes of EQG and MLP. Often to the plot's detriment.
And Mirror Magic was the one I was really looking forward to because I knew ahead of time that it would involve Sunset returning to Equestria and going back to pony form. So much potential! ...Turns out she only returned for 5 minutes. xD Still, nice cameo scene there. It was nice to see Sunset and Starlight interact, though, and Starlight has a really neat-looking human form. And it was a really nice lesson to show there, especially considering the anxiety issues it addresses. ...Though I saw that lesson more in the words characters gave to each other than much of the actual actions of the special.
Anyway, the villain of Mirror Magic... Felt more like a mundane villain. xD Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the villain had a One Winged Angel moment that felt... not all that threatening? She grew taller, looked better, and scared people with her... tallness? The worst she did was eventually cause some collateral damage by breaking screens or such, but... that was about it? ...Okay, she did lock people inside a magic mirror, but I wonder if she didn't truly understand it or the danger that the Humane 7 were actually in. She's not magical-oriented, after all, and she was largely self-concerned. I guess not all the villains have to be super-powerful. It's probably a good thing that there's no attempt for the villain to one-up the villain of the previous release; otherwise it'll just get to be too much and then the writers will be stuck in a positive feedback loop where they have to make the next villain more powerful than the last until it's super unrealistic. Which is probably why they did the third movie the way they did regarding the stakes. Not a bad thing, just... this villain's corrupted form was not the least bit intimidating. xD; Good moments in the movie. Just... I dunno, I think I just expected more. Anyway, I'm caught up with Season 7 of MLP. But I kinda spent my words talking about EQG. I'll save the MLP words for another post. xD

Random comments on the EQG movie "Forgotten Friendship." (If there's others in-between, I didn't see them. I'm not as eager into either series as I used to be, but I was curious about the movie. xD ) The plot concept as a whole is something really interesting to me, and is also terrifying to me. ='D And it's Sunset Shimmer. How could I not watch?
I thought it interesting how Sunset kinda reverted back to her old self after the others forgot her, even though her memories were just fine. It was a little jarring though, because in other movies like Rainbow Rocks and the like, I notice she was genuinely nice to others (went out of her way for it in RR, though that's mainly because she was trying to redeem herself), and not just to her main friend group. I'm guessing that without a friend base as a support group, there's less holding her back, or that maybe after so long being accepted she started to be complacent about checking herself, or both combining at an inopportune time? I dunno. I'm not complaining too much, though, because this makes Sunset more interesting, and honestly it was a nice change after the last bits of the last few movies where she seemed Too Perfect. But it's still kinda jarring to me.
I'm also not complaining because my issues with how it was overall written aside (which are too vague for me to really talk about), I did like the moral and the villain. I don't think the moral is something that's talked about too often, but it's really important. Both the morals that one has to do more than not be mean to be accepted and that it's important to be nice outside your friend group, not just within. (That was more shown than told. ...But still mainly within the context of the movie because she honestly didn't seem bad about that before in previous movies/specials. (Not counting the first one.)) Anyway, I do think the morals are really important and are really worth telling, so I liked those.
And like I said, I also like the villain. It's a good thing to talk about and good to explore that type of character beyond what we usually see for that type of character. Loneliness and shyness are shown in the usual archetype, but the bitterness is usually glossed over, and it's not here. And it's really nice to see it addressed. And I also kinda like that she didn't transform. One little issue I've had with the series is that the transformations make the people involved so beyond themselves that people don't really establish agency to the actions they perform there, which can cause previous problems to be overlooked. So it's nice here to see that "nope, no transformed into evilness, just personality faults". Which also made the redemption stronger. (Especially since you can see her facial expression the exact moment she realized she's gone too far, and after that she's pretty quiet until she's talked to afterwards.) ...Though. If she's accepted into the group and resolved to be less lonely, but we don't see her again after that, well. xD
Anyway, other little points.
There seemed to be a lot of filler and "we should really have this, let's push it in!" stuff. The filler I kinda minded (beach episodes, yayyy?), but some of the latter stuff I didn't mind. It was good to see a bit more of Sunset revisiting the pony world, and it was nice to see her reuniting with Celestia. I personally feel like the acceptance went too fast and that maybe she was forgiven too easily for them to go "okay back to joking around =D ". But maybe Celestia could see just how nervous and sorry Sunset was. I dunno. I'm kinda nitpicking there, I overall thought it was a good scene.
And there was just one last thing. Part 5 of the movie, timestamp ~7:05(?), where everyone gets their memories back? Specifically the moment when Sunset and Twilight run and huge each other, then fold their arms over each others' as the others gather around... ... Someone photoshop a still of that moment and put them front of a wedding arch. I bet you that it wouldn't look out of place.
(Seriously MLP writers, I almost feel like you're doing this on purpose now. (And I'm totally into it. Human!Twilight/Sunset 5eva. (Hey, they have more chemistry than with Flash Sentry or Timber Spruce. >> ))

I haven't kept up with EQG, thanks for the reminders and comments Gelquie, I might marathon a few of these some day. MLP has a Season 8 now. Did anybody know? =o They're having a kind of mid-season pause and picking up again soon. I've already watched the first half. The season premiere starts right after the official MLP movie left off. I have no intention of watching the movie, but the premiere was still pretty easy to follow. New lands, new pony types, new toys. About the season's main arc: so they're doing a school thing. Problem when your main characters are running a school: it's kind of a full time thing. Even if you're not the one running it. And RD is a full Wonderbolt now. And Fluttershy is running an animal sanctuary, AJ a family farm, and Rarity a growing chain of THREE STORES for which she needs to design and hoof-make clothes for each new season! (Pinkie Pie does many things, but the laws of physics need not apply to Pinkie Pie.) The magic of friendship is really something, huh. Good thing Equestria is a chill land where ponies gently trade instead of capitalist job hell.
Cool things about the school: at this point, the Mane Six have learned too many things about friendship. The school allows younger characters to learn lessons, while the Mane Six discover the many horrible, horrible joys of teaching, realising how little you really know, and mostly being taught by your students. The school sets up the ... Young Six? The main group of multi-cultural students, who bring in a lot of neat themes and add obvious diversity and acceptance. They're good kids. I'm rather fond of Ocellus.
My main problem with the school, though, is: WHO BUILT THIS THING?? This huge thing with its elaborate water features and grounds and gardens and things?? I can accept that Celestia pays for it all, including the maintenance, with Equestrian taxes, but did the building just spring out of the ground like Twilight's new castle? Overall, I'm underwhelmed, but appreciating the characters, themes and continuity. Don't have much to say about individual episodes, so here's a lump of comments. The season premiere was not really action-packed, I guess because it followed the movie. I appreciated the presence of the leaders from various other lands, for continuity's sake. The antagonist is quite unsubtle. Seems like his appearance might have been inspired by Snape. xD However, his blatant intolerance of foreign students and insinuations that they'd be dangerous, and the prevailing of Twilight's way, are an important and relevant message. *pets the show* They also make a good point about education in general by showing how the evil strict academy's rules don't work for anyone actually teaching or learning and make school life awful, but it's still Twilight who creates new rules for her school, with a huge lot of research and serious studying.
Episode 3 - The Maud Couple: Eh, I'm not super enthusiastic over shoving characters into couples. I do approve of letting Maud meet someone just right for her, though, instead of painting her as an outcast because of the way she thinks and her special interest. This episode is nothing new, basically Pinkie discovering what everyone else felt like when she introduced Maud to them.
Episode 4 - Fake it 'til you make it: another one in which they acknowledge that Fluttershy has made tremendous progress with her shyness but show her struggling with it anyway. It does make sense, though. They're showing that her anxiety, even after all this work, doesn't vanish into thin air, and it's still a constant thing with ups and downs. ;_; Her quick costume changes and cliche characters were far too cartoony for this to work on me, though. And how long does a single pony customer take to shop for clothes in one store? (says the one who can stay for hours before deciding what to buy) What I appreciated most about this episode was the return of the Manehattan boutique, the salesponies hired by Rainbow Dash, and the raccoons. Highlight:
Episode 6 - Surf and/or Turf: not remotely subtle, a CMC thing with singing, not my thing, but neat landscapes, and a message that might resonate with a lot of people. "You can be both of those things" is something that may seem obvious, but that you really need to be told sometimes.
Episode 7 - Horse Play: the play plot itself was way simple. Another interesting lesson, though. Twilight realised that she can hurt Celestia's feelings, and that she should treat Celestia as a friend, too. Extra bonus points for Celestia's bad acting, oooh my. I hope the VA had fun.
Episode 9 - Non-Compete Clause: I'll just say that I wouldn't be surprised if the students had guessed that AJ and RD wanted to be teacher of the month, and those kids had spun a story for Twilight on purpose to help the two teachers. x3
I was very disappointed in episode 13. They created mean versions of the Mane Six, an old trick Discord pulled off much better all the way back in Season Two, and they wasted a perfectly good Chrysalis who just spent the entire episode monologuing! They had better bring back Chrysalis properly for the season finale. I appreciate that they made Starlight her main target, though. It takes a bit of the Chosen-One-ness off Twilight. On upcoming episodes from the second half of the series: apparently Star Swirl the Bearded will enroll at another school of friendship than Twilight's. ?!?? I'm intrigued, actually, and curious about the continuity of the ancient guardians' presence in present-day Equestria.
There will be an episode focusing on the friendship between RD and Rarity. I'm looking forward to that one, because they're a rather unlikely pair, but not as cat-and-dog as Rarity and AJ. The last time an episode focused on RD and Rarity was that noir-detective-pastiche where Rarity cleared RD's name after she was framed for something and nearly kicked out of the Wonderbolts, if I remember right? It was one of my favourite episodes, anyway. Hope this one will be good too.

I've been watching the current season, it's uh... different. It's already been established that the mane six have full time jobs... Like Rarity, who has had several episodes in the past showing us just how much work and stress she already has piled on her with her career as a seamstress. >_> No thought to that, they just all agree to teach at Twilight's new school as if they had just been asked if they wanted some ketchup packets for those fries, like "Yeah, sure. I can squeeze that job in if I don't sleep sometimes."
Oh yes, I recently watched EQG: Rollercoaster of Friendship and well... I'd say it felt less like a rollercoaster and more like a galleon; Super duper shippy. XD

By the way, this show's season 8 happened! Let me see, where did I leave off? Episode 14 - A Matter of Principals left me quite meh. I like the characters who got the spotlight, but it seems to be one of those episodes in which prior character development is ignored, just so as to cause mayhem. I must say that I appreciate how Discord got the Mane 6 out of the way by faking a Cutie Map mission. Clever and easy. They're lucky that no worse villain than Discord figured it out earlier! Also, Starlight being able to magically banish Discord. Considering the magical prowess she's already shown, that's consistent and satisfying. Episode 15 - The Hearth's Warming Club, obligatory holiday episode. Not much to say about that one, except it was cute and feelsy enough, and I like the Young 6. I particularly liked the beginning, where they mentioned the different holidays in different cultures of Equestria, and showed how annoying it is when someone assumes that you're celebrating the same holiday as them. Episode 16 - Friendship University was a good one. Detective Rarity returns! I love this brand new character Plainity, she is so young and hip! Flim and Flam return as their good old selves with a huge college scam and BOY, does this episode reflect real world problems. :'D
Once again, Twilight is suspicious of a rival and everyone thinks she's just being jealous and selfish, and that leads to trouble in her relationship with an admired mentor figure - Starswirl this time. It's different from the royal wedding episode, in which Twilight's friends, brother and Celestia were disappointed by the way she suspected ChrysaCadance. This time, instead of Twilight's own status being at stake, it's the school and the values that she's been working on, her project. I loved the moment when, faced with blackmail, she was willing to give up her reputation to protect fairness in education.
Our little Twilight has grown. ;u; Episode 17 - The End in Friend, a cat-and-dog-friendship sort of episode between RD and Rarity instead of Rarity and AJ. This feels like it should have happened all the way back in season 2 or 3, was forgotten, and suddenly brought back! Quite basic, but I found it cute in a nostalgic way, like getting back to the old show. Episode 18 - Yakity-SaxThis one seemed like it was going to be goofy, then it had a fantastic message. Pinkamena returns, but subdued instead of creepy and that's the saddest I've ever seen Pinkie Pie. Her fall into depression, much more gradual this time, starting with putting on a brave front for her friends and closing up little by little, hit me pretty hard. The message that you don't need to be good at something to enjoy doing it is wonderful. Episode 20 - the Washouts (I didn't catch 19 D: ) This one gave me many feels. Lightning Dust returns! Her starting another stunt team with other Wonderbolt dropouts makes much sense. I liked her tense frenemy dynamic with RD. I think Spitfire just out-Spitfire'd herself. Scootaloo standing up to Rainbow Dash is the best, especially making RD realise that she had been ignoring Scootaloo's disability. Rainbow Dash had to admit many feels towards Scootaloo. What really got me was the end, though. Because starting a fan club for someone is Scootaloo's way of showing affection, so doing it for her is... the best, the absolute best. I'm not crying you're crying. Episode 21 - A Rockhoof and a Hard PlaceThe feels train continues. Seeing how the old Pillars fit into modern Equestria is exactly what I'd been waiting for. Poor, poor Rockhoof. The resolution at the end was so obvious and telegraphed, but didn't prevent feels. Episode 23 - Sounds of Silence Aesthetic! Songs that I didn't even mind because they contributed to characterisation beautifully! Neat things about emotions! I appreciate how Fluttershy pointed out to AJ that, when speaking to someone who can't reply, you really ought to use yes/no questions. :'D And yes, anger can be very, very useful and necessary, indeed. :'D Episode 22 and the finale: Was anyone else kinda waiting for Cozy Glow to turn into Chrysalis? I half-was. Not sure if they intentionally used Chryssy as a red herring. In any case, I think this is the first time we've had a pony as an irredeemable villain? And not any pony, but a very harmless-looking, upstanding member of society pony, instead of a foreign, "other" creature. And the first time someone tried to weaponise "friendship" through manipulation out of hunger for power. Although I wasn't particularly dazzled by the execution of the episodes, I found that interesting, and quite relevant to real life, along with the general theme of this season.

Thread revival! Hey folks, did you know that season 9 is currently happening and that it's supposed to be the very last season of this show? This would fit right into one of those "feel old yet?" lists.
I don't yet have much to say about season 9, but since it's been such a long time, I thought it might be interesting to look back on the older seasons, and share what the highlights were for me. (As it happens, I re-watched a bunch of my old favourites to help me cool down while working on the Magical Girl Art Exchange.)
Season 1
Party of One Quite a doozy, that was. Pinkie's anxiety was incredibly relatable in spite of the cartoony depiction of her breakdown, and there were fun Looney Tunes tributes when she was tailing her friends around town. This was the first episode to give Pinkie's character depth, too.
Suited for Success It took a while for Rarity to get her chance to shine. I'm biased towards Rarity episodes for Tabitha St Germain's voice acting and for the general aesthetic, but in this one, I also like how the entire Mane 6 get a chance to bond.
Green Isn't Your Colour involves Rarity / Fluttershy bonding instead, but it's the episode that brought us Photo Finish and Pinkie promises, and many fun little moments.
Bridle Gossip Just for the moment when Fluttershy sings Pinkie's song for her.
Season 2
Luna Eclipsed You know why.
The Return of Harmony My favourite season premiere! Can't top Discord. It was early enough in the show that it wasn't too redundant after the season 1 pilot, and included evolution and bonding for all of the Mane 6. A classic.
MMMystery on the Frienship Express This is probably my most re-watched episode. It's filler-ish, but the tributes to Agatha Christie-esque train mystery and various movie genres, the alliteration and the pacing make it really fun for me, a relaxing watch.
Season 3
Keep Calm and Flutter On "Well-played, Fluttershy. Well-played."
Magic Duel Lots of magic, which lets us see Twilight's progress while getting an idea of the limits of her power, more Trixie being even worse, but still redeemable, and Twilight winning through a combination of wits and friendship.
Season 4
Bats! Flutterbat! The entire Mane 6 on a spooky vampire hunt! A clever way to use vampire tropes without any blood whatsoever.
Filli Vanilli The depiction of stage fright is too good - the moment when Fluttershy actually gets caught on stage? Gut-wrenching.
Pinkie Pride This is the Weird Al Yankovic episode! With Weird Al as a pony having a sing-off with Pinkie Pie, what more could one want? They actually made good use of their guest star, and I think his character fits neatly into the show.
Inspiration Manifestation Rarity out-Raritying herself, a fun way to explore her character pushed to the extreme. I re-watch this one a lot, too. It also shows a lot of Spike and Rarity's friendship without bringing it into crush territory, which I find refreshing.
Twilight's Kingdom A bit slow-paced for a season finale, but the incredible battle more than made up for it. Twilight at full power.
Season 5
Rarity Investigates My second most re-watched episode, only second because it came out later than MMM. Rarity being absolutely fabulous and a good friend at the same time. Rare RariDash bonding. Wonderbolts drama. Noir detective genre fun with different art styles. It's a relaxing and aesthetically pleasing watch for me.
Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? brb gotta re-watch but shouldn't because will crai, too much feels too many Luna
What About Discord? Just when I thought they were running out of friendship lessons, this episode came to call me out on fear of missing out and feeling left out. Painfully relatable, and still fun, Discord gets to be a friend while keeping his mischief-making instincts. (With the discordant little sound effect heard all the way back in The Return of Harmony)
The Cutie Re-mark This was actually a pretty good season finale? Aside from time travelling inconsistencies, this had great interaction between Starlight and Twilight and good voice acting and Starlight being a scarily competent villain, I love how she had a simple solution for every trip back in time, and it was only fitting that such a clever villain could be reasoned with and had to be reasoned with. AND fan-service in the form of twisted history timelines!
Scare Master Spookiness and Fluttershy adorableness, and logical progression in Fluttershy's character development without accidental regression, dealing with anxiety and boundaries in a Halloween episode.
Season 7
A Royal Problem Voice acting! Celestia getting angry! Nightmare Celestia! Powerful magic! Luna's own nightmare! Sister bonding! Daily palace life! Consistent Starlight and Twilight characterisation!
Discordant Harmony The successor of Keep Calm and Flutter On. It's so lovely to see how far these two have come and how well they know each other and just... how happy they are together!
These are my old faves. Good times!
Do you have old faves?

Oh, I love My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, but I have never commented because I've always been so far behind the seasons. Currently I'm in the middle of Season 7. Part of the problem is I like watching each episode one at a time, as a special treat. Which means I go through it very slowly. But I mean, it's so good, I'd hate to waste them all on a blur of binge-watching.
But I can certainly talk about past episodes. I've been showing them to my Grandma, we've finished season 1 so far. Friendship is Magic is a great Pilot, introduces the show and concepts really well, I think it's a good place to start. Party of One is a really entertaining episode, it's like the second to last in the season though, so I had to wait to show it to Grandma for quite a while, it felt like. I had to look up the other episodes in the season, but then I realized, if I have to look them up, are they really favorites? So I'll skip the rest for now.
In Season 2, I'm looking forward to showing Grandma The Return of Harmony, and Lesson Zero, and I haven't peeped ahead to past the first disc in the DVD box set, so I don't remember what else we have to look forward to. But Lesson Zero was so much fun to watch, but also relatable, watching Twilight stress out like that. Such a good episode.
I might come back and comment on more past episodes as we watch them.

Rainbow Roadtrip Was okay. They didn't really have the budget to fully utilize the MLP Movie style animation, I think. That style was used very well to improve upon expressions and movement during the movie's action-packed scenes, but this TV movie had little action to offer and it all looked just a little off to me. "dull surprise" seemed to be the extent of their expressiveness. XD
The story was predictable and a bit boring, though I did enjoy the supporting cast of town ponies.
It felt like an extra long regular episode, really.
Also, the song at the end was cool, but all I could think throughout is that they're missing the red/empathy element of Harmony. XP You're not a full rainbow, mane 6! You never will be without Sunset!! *runs away sobbing*
Sunset's Backstage Pass Wins first in Worst Title for an EQG special.
I really hope this wasn't the last EQG thing, buuut it probably is. :'D I suppose it wasn't as bad as the previous special "Spring Breakdown", but that's not really saying much. My main annoyance here comes from how the characters act. I'd think that after four movies and three specials the characters would have learned that Acting Like A Total Dingus = not good, buuut perhaps not!
I'm guessing that this OOC behaviour was written specifically to move the plot, which is a little insulting to the characters. It just rubbed me the wrong way. (especially with how obnoxious Pinkie Pie is portrayed.) "Let's just make everyone over-the-top and unreasonable!" is one of the laziest ways to set up a story. Don't do.
I am glad to see the Dazzlings again! I was pretty sure that we'd never see them ever again. XD It's been five years since Rainbow Rocks afterall. Though, they only had a brief cameo... At least they're still alive! that's a bit of closure, I suppose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In the end it was mediocre. Not a great special to end EG on, but oh-well... I'll just cross my fingers that they'll somehow give it a proper ending before G4 and all associated projects bite the dust.

Hey everycreature!
Did you know that the show's over? Like, the entire show. Season 9 aired, the Season 9 finale aired, Season 9 was the last season, Season 9's finale was the show finale, the show finale of MLP:FiM. It's aaaaaalll oooveeerrrrr! D8 I want to yell about the big huge finale!!! But I haven't yelled about Season 9 at all yet?? I'm going to do that now, someone else please post in between before I come back to comment on the finale! x3 Premiere: The Beginning of the End + 3) Uprooted
The Mane 6 are going to rule Equestria! They can slot it into their lunch breaks on non-school days, I guess? A villain team-up, I think that's the first time it's happened in this show, it's nice that they saved it for the last season. There's a really good dynamic between the main villainous trio. Sombra only got to appear as a black poof of smoke in the earlier Crystal Empire premiere, so it's like they gave him a second chance here to make better use of his... cliche villain style. At least they let him fool the Mane 6 into leading him to the Tree, so he's less foolish than he seems. Destroying the Tree of Harmony... I don't know, maybe I've forgotten show lore, but I felt like we'd already made a fuss of the Mane 6 having to give the Elements back to the Tree, but staying connected to the Magic of Friendship anyway. So that felt a bit redundant to me. Discord's a bit too comfortable using his meta trolling to control the plot for good. The bit with the Everfree Forest's plants going haywire was such an obvious excuse to get Celestia, Luna and Starswirl out of the way. That's what happens when you have too many OP characters who'd solve things too easily and you have to keep them busy somehow. In Uprooted, the Young 6 are finally confirmed as the next batch of magical friends. I'm a bit underwhelmed by the pacing and dialogue, but what needed to happen has happened, and Twilight is legendary enough that a legendary entity takes her form, neat. Also neat that the location of the new friendship treehouse is on top of the Castle of the Two Sisters, the previous Element-wielders.
There were lots of filler episodes, especially in the first half, that left me underwhelmed.
4) Sparkle's Seven: obligatory movie reference, fun overall, meme bait. 5) The Point of No Return: sadly slow-paced, nice for perfectionists though. 7) She's All Yak: nooo, please. Why would you do this. Yona's super adorable and there's a nice message somewhere in there but wrapped in so much cringe and cliche. 23) The Big Mac Question: I skipped it. I get the impression that since Big Mac was hinted to be somewhat GNC, he got shoved with a lady love interest as a "look, everyone and especially parents of children, Big Mac is so straight!" move. Big Mac had more personality when he wasn't being A Boyfriend. 12) The Last Crusade: The old "friend is moving away from friends and has no say in the matter" cliche? Scootaloo's... parents? They make no sense? No proper communication between them? None at all? Let us never speak of them again, Aunties Holiday and Lofty are all we need. 20) A Horse Shoe-In If you like spending 20 minutes yelling "but why not ask Sunburst from the start??" then this is the episode for you!
There were some episodes I liked better. 13) Between Dark and Dawn: this was very silly. It felt like silly fanfiction, grabbing two of the more serious characters, and letting them get silly, and catching them in pictures that one would not want to be tagged in on Manebook. I loved it a lot.
14) The Last Laugh: I kept expecting there to be an Evil Takeover of Cheese's factory. I'm glad they didn't aim for a "corporate environment is evil" or for a "science takes the fun out of everything" vibe, the factory gags were helping Pinkie figure things out. Also glad that Sans Smirk was a good, smart pony who happens not to laugh out loud, instead of an evil introvert cliche. The gags themselves were not really funny to me, but that way they didn't distract from the plot. The overall message was serious good advice on doing what you love. Thanks again to Weird Al.
15) 2, 4 6, Greaaat This episode is something that could have been done many seasons earlier and I'm glad they got it done. Rainbow Dash has always had this delicate balance of being a biiit of a jerk at times, but in a way that stayed acceptable, because everyone knows that's just the way she is. We had to wait until the middle of the final season for someone to finally call her out on being dismissive of anything she finds uncool and acting like she's better. Smolder was a good character for that. Leaving Rainbow Dash to be taught a lesson by stressed students who just wanted to put their act together was really not a cool thing for Twilight to do, though.
16) A Trivial PursuitThis doesn't feel like anything new. It was a nice look back on the odd friendship between Twilight and Pinkie, though, an interesting relationship to explore since Season 1. And there were so many meme-bait Twilight faces.
17) The Summer Sun SetbackFinally a plotty episode. And focused on the Mane 6's dynamic. A good, interesting example of how friends shouldn't be afraid of upsetting each other by being honest. Speaking of honesty, I love that Twilight went to Applejack for answers, and AJ got her "I told you so" moment. Twilight has clearly done a lot of work on her anxiety and I love that we can tell it's been a long road, and that she's had a lot of support from her friends. The villainous trio are really smarter when they brainstorm together and it's refreshing to see villains do smart things.
18) She Talks to AngelFinally, Fluttershy's relationship with jerk-bunny explained, after 9 seasons! Fluttershy having to walk all the way to Zecora in a little rabbit body was far too dangerous, I think this kind of drastic messing-with-people is oddly inconsiderate and OOC for Zecora. This was pretty interesting from two angles: Angel's dependence on Fluttershy is overbearing and it's healthy to expand his social circle and let him be heard; but when Angel depends on Fluttershy for things he cannot physically do and she doesn't seem to listen to his needs, it can be scary, he needs to be able to trust his caretaker in order to feel safe. Loved Andrea Libman's work voicing Angel. 21) Daring DoubtIn which MLP gets as close as they can to artefact repatriation by considering that, despite the classic old Indiana Jones tribute, maybe it's not a good idea to barge into places and loot important things without asking the locals' opinions. Ahuizotl might not be the best character to represent that, but I'm glad we didn't end the series thinking of him as some random monster thing, while thinking of Daring Do as all good. Fluttershy casually working her cinnamon roll charm on Caballeron and his henchponies was priceless. Hey, she tamed the Spirit of Chaos, these guys were a piece of cake after Discord.
