Art is kind of a cross between a hobby and a career for me. XD I mean, a lot of my artistic talent I plan on dedicating to things that hopefully will bring in a bit of money somewhere down the road, but a lot of the art I do is just for the sake of doing art. Heck, most of the stuff I have on dA is random doodlecomics.

Question: how often do you guys look at the Daily Deviations page?
I always check the DDs every day, because I've found some really fab stuff on those pages. XD

XD I don't think I've ever really looked at the DDs, actually. XD; Of course that might stem from my tendency to not browse dA much out of fear of finding something that cannot be unseen...

I check the DDs occasionally. Usually if I see something that particularly catches my eye in the DDs on the bottom of the screen, I'll look through them, occasionally I'll look just to look. But that's probably only once or twice a week. Most of my DA-browsing happens when I'm looking for specific things, like fanart for something or a particular sort of drawing or project. The only area I usually browse just to look through is Artisan Crafts. That's probably my favorite category, even though I have hardly any deviations in it.

I almost never browse DDs because I forget. xD;; I have found some great stuff there, but often a lot of it isn't to my taste (though that could be said about everything on dA xD). The only thing I browse actively is Zelda fanart.
Edit: What do you/would you say if someone makes a generic request for tips on how you draw your art? Do you list the tools you use, or say something about practice, etc.?

Edit: What do you/would you say if someone makes a generic request for tips on how you draw your art? Do you list the tools you use, or say something about practice, etc.? I usually respond to the generic question of "How do you draw so well?" with "I don't." XDDDD But seriously, almost no one asks me for pointers. For one thing I'm almost exclusively a traditional media artist, whereas most folks these days seem to favor digital media. And those who do use traditional medias tend to use paint, while I stick with colored pencils. So none of my wellspring of advice really applies. On the rare occasions that I get asked for advice, I usually respond with the basic fallback; "All I can say is practice. For things like anatomy, try looking for references in a textbook." Now advice on writing... that's another story entirely (no pun intended). My mother is an English teacher, she knew when I was growing up that I had inherited her talent for writing, and as such she was brutally cruel when proofreading my work. I thank her for this tremendously, every day, because it's thanks to her that when I forget about an essay until two days before it's due, I can turn in my first draft to professors who say outright "we know what a first draft looks like" and still get an A- However, most people who ask for me to give them pointers or critique on written works only do it once; word of warning, I'm really brutal about doing that. My mom didn't hold any punches with me and it got me to where I am, so I don't hold any punches either. Just ask Mew.Oh, and on the subject of Daily Deviations, I usually just glance down at the bottom of the page and check one out if it catches my eye. Mostly the kind of things that get DD aren't the sort of things I'm all that interested in; I see a lot of abstract paintings and nature scenes. Don't get me wrong, they're beautiful pieces of artwork, but they just don't do much for me.

I hardly check Daily Deviations, but I do search DeviantArt frequently when I need reference pictures/poses for something I'm drawing. Because of my frequent searching, I often find awesome pictures that way and +fav them accordingly. ^_^
And of course, I always look at the deviations from people on my watchlist, with the occasional comment/fav. :3

I don't really pay attention to the DD's. I like looking up pictures, though. 8D

Of course that might stem from my tendency to not browse dA much out of fear of finding something that cannot be unseen... You do know you can change your settings to not display anything with Mature tags, right? I mean, that won't prevent you from seeing disturbing things like Harry Potter making out with, I dunno, Dolores Umbridge, but it will keep the nude imagery away. :B Edit: What do you/would you say if someone makes a generic request for tips on how you draw your art? Do you list the tools you use, or say something about practice, etc.? I guess it depends on what they're asking. If they ask something like, "How do you make your animation?" I usually respond with "Adobe Flash, and sometimes Digicel Flipbook." And occasionally I'll tell them to check out Richard Williams' "Animator's Survival Kit" book. But if it's as generic as "How do you draw like that?" I'll usually say something about lots and lots of practice. XD Dedicated practice, not just doodling. Actual practice where you're pushing yourself to do something new that you've never tried to do. For whatever reason, the people who ask seem to find it shocking that I'm 24 years old and have completed 4 years of art school. Maybe it's because I draw Neopets that they think I'm a teenager or something. XD

I usually get asked "How do you make your lines so smooth?" for some reason.

I don't really get asked about how I make my art. Maybe how NOT to make my art, but... XP

XD Butyeah, just because it doesn't have mature filters, doesn't mean it's something I want to see. That and I'm not super interested in browsing whatever's out there anyway, sooo... I don't think I've ever really been asked how I draw any one thing so good. XD Or really how I draw so good at all. I mean, people tell me that I'm an amazing artist/animator/whatever, but I don't think I've really been asked how that much.

He he, one of todays Daily Deviations made me chuckle.
"The Game." Clearly someone on the dA staff has a sense of humor.
