;D Went ahead and made this thang, ohsnap.
Here's a club for all the NTWFers who are also a member of dA, and want to talk about deviantART. Post weird comments you've gotten, or contests you're doing, or trade llamas maybe!

I'll sign up! Link's in my signature, but it's Icon109. ^^ I'll go ahead and break the ice- what do you think of people who favorite without commenting, or vice versa? I'm personally fine with a "favorite" or a comment, standalone or together, but what are your opinions?

I've never really cared if someone fav'd something without commenting, because when you ask (or even demand, as I've seen some people do) someone to comment when they fave, you just wind up with one-word comments like "cool." :/ And I don't even look at who faves what piece, so I don't even know if a person DID fave without commenting. The way I see it, a fave is an indication that someone liked something I did, even if they didn't care to comment on it. And anyway, most of my faves come from either 1) my Neopets fanart, so I wouldn't expect much substantial commentary from it, or 2) some of the weird foot-fetish commissions I've done, so I don't know if I WANT their weird commentary on it ^^;;; or 3) faves coming from people who've commented fairly regularly on my pieces, so I don't mind if they don't want to resay things they've already expressed.
Though, on the other hand, I know how important comments can be to some people, especially new deviants who aren't getting many comments at all, so I try to comment every time I fave something, and try to post at least a full sentence that says something at least moderately substantial. The only things that I just "fave and run" are Daily Deviations or the Popular page items, since I know plenty of others are doing the same, and that artist won't get that offended if there's one more person who's faving without a comment. :B

Sign me up please! 8D Like icon, Mines in my Signature as well. But here we go --> roughtiger.deviantart.com/Komori- I like to get comments. Even though I get more Favs. But I don't really mind If no one comments or not. It's nice to get comments from people, but it doesn't really bother me if you comment or not.

I'd like to join. ^^ My dA is InkyFridays. *pokes signature*
On the topic of comments and favorites, I like getting both and don't really prefer one over the other. Getting any kind of feedback is nice to see. I do like constructive comments and when people point out what they liked about the piece specifically, though. I myself normally just fave and run, a habit which I'm trying to break. XD; I just either forget I'm able to comment at all or can't think of anything constructive to say.

I'm in! Userpage is Aquanut. You could always just reply with a "XD" or a "*rimshot*" or something like that. I usually wind up saying something like that when I can't think of something to say, but feel obligated to say something. Yeah, I generally end up doing that too, but sometimes I let the comment rot for days because I can't think of anything to answer it with, and then I feel bad about making the commenter wait so long just to get a single emoticon as a reply. xD Oh man, I know what you mean. I have people on Neo call me Ghost since my user is ghostkomorichu, which is fairly reasonable. It's why I usually put *Komori* as the header in my NeoHTML. But then on dA, where my user is chaoskomori, I've had lots of people call me Chaos. I never wind up correcting them, because it never feels like an appropriate situation, yanno? Yeah, I know, especially if it's just some random commenter that probably isn't going to get to know you closely anyway. But I recently became an admin/art judge on a Zelda fanart group, and a couple of the other mods that I'm working with have been calling me Aqua. I should ideally have just said, "You can call me Nut," the first time it happened and gone about my business, but I didn't mind being called that so I didn't think to correct it until I was writing a description of myself for the mods' About Us section and suddenly didn't know whether to put down my name as Nut or Aqua. Now the longer it goes on, the more awkward I'll feel about bringing it up later, and the more they'll be used to calling me Aqua. Regarding comments and faves, I certainly enjoy getting comments, but favorites are compliments as well and I never understood it when people got downright antagonistic towards fave-and-runners. It really turns me off when people put something in the description like "Comment or get out!" I understand it can be frustrating to not get much feedback, but it seems really ungrateful to not appreciate a favorite as a sign that someone liked their work enough to save it for later viewing. I'm completely sporadic about what I comment on, unfortunately. I do like to leave comments when I fave things, but when an artist is popular and already has a lot of comments, I feel less inclined to leave yet another one. I'll leave comments if I feel like I have anything to say, but I'm much more inclined to do so if the artist doesn't get many comments and seems like they'd like some.

I do prefer getting feedback over a favourite. I want to know why they like the picture. Even if their reason is "He's my favourite character" or something like that.
I get loads of favourites on my two flash games every day and almost no comments on them. The amount of favs obviously tell me that those pieces are popular... but I don't know -why- they're popular or what about them it is that people liked. It doesn't help me at all. XD
Whenever I favourite something, I try to leave a comment, anyway.

Here.Since I've been trying harder to accept constructive criticism as of late, I prefer feedback over a fave. ^^; (I guess it helps if it's on the positive side... >_<) Detailed concrit along with how I can fix the picture's flaws > Brief rundown of positives and negatives > "I like the picture, especially the _____ in it" > "Cute!"/"Cool!" > Favorite > Nothing. I can't expect everyone to take time out of their day to make a loooong, elaborate critique, though, so it's not a big deal. Anywho...I don't get irritated at people for faving and running. I'm a relatively minor artist and I don't get faves or comments that often, anyway, so why not? xD Faves are pleasant to see, although it can get irritating to see all the faves going to an old drawing that I don't think is my best work. I don't comment much on deviations apart from the works of people I watch. ^^; Then again, I don't fave much apart from those works, so...

Now the longer it goes on, the more awkward I'll feel about bringing it up later, and the more they'll be used to calling me Aqua. Well, for that group, you could even put, "Nut or Aqua" as a sort of transitional thing, then maybe even in your dA signature something like "Just call me Nut 8D"? But yeah, actually saying it directly to a person, I find that hard to do, even on the internet. XD Here.Since I've been trying harder to accept constructive criticism as of late, I prefer feedback over a fave. I always avoid saying something negative about a piece unless somewhere in the comments the person is directly asking for help. And not just "Constructive criticism appreciated," because I find most of the people who use that phrase are just not aware that constructive criticism involves pointing out bad things. :/ So unless their description says something like, "Please point out all the bad parts, I desperately need to know what they are!" or something like that, I'll usually just say good things. I've found that if someone asks for a critique and I take the time to actually write out a thoughtful one, they'll usually just go point-by-point and come up with excuses why something looks the way it does. -_- I really can't stand that. They're the ones who ask for the critique, and then get all defensive over every suggestion, it just makes it not worth the effort to have written the crit in the first place. And I personally never like for getting critiques from people when I didn't ask for them. A personal pet peeve of mine is someone critiquing a work of mine that I didn't request critiques for, and I look at their gallery and it's full of crummy MS Paint art. D8< It's exceedingly rare to get crits from someone who looks like they actually know what they're talking about, and when I do it's usually from my sister or my old college buddies. I dunno. I guess it's because I know my college friends know what they're talking about, we attended the same classes, but then these other random people don't really seem to practice what they preach, so I don't really trust that they know what they're talking about. And then it just seems like they like pointing out errors in other people's work because it makes THEM feel better. Ugh. I dunno. Buuut yeah, I'm more than willing to write out thoughtful critiques if someone seems desperate for them, but I definitely don't make that my usual comment process.

Count me in. :3 I'm The-Legendary-Female.
As for the comment vs. fave question, well, while I do like getting favorites, I generally prefer comments. 'Cause, y'know, I like hearing what people think of my stuff. XD I also practically always respond to comments, but I never go out of my way to say "thanks for the fave!" like some people do.
Which brings up another question: do you guys respond to your comments or thank people for your faves? 'Cause I've noticed that sometimes when I leave a comment on something, I never get a reply back at all. Of course half the time it's with one of those deviations that already has like a hundred comments so I understand not having the time to respond to all that. XD Still though, makes me curious how many people are in the habit of responding.

I'll say "Thank you!" if I feel their response is lengthy enough that they'd expect an answer back, but for the most part, if their comment is a simple compliment, I don't really respond to each one, or else my deviation will look like: Person1: Cool pic! Me: Thanks! Person2: LOL, this is awesome. Me: Thanks! Person3: *emoticon* ROFL Me: Thanks! And that just looks too cluttered and pointless to me. But I try to respond with a thank-you to people every once in a while. And I definitely don't thank people for faves, I wouldn't have the time to hunt each username down to thank them. XD

I'll join! My DA is Shinkoryu14 => shinkoryu14.deviantart.com/I love getting both favorites and comments, but I have this one watcher who kind of annoys me because they favorite EVERYTHING I post up three seconds after I post it, including my short stories. I know they can't possibly have had time to actually look at any of the stuff they favorite, so in a way it feels almost like empty praise.

Ooh, I'll join! My username is MewJingle. ^_^
I love both faves and comments. Personally, I like comments more than faves, but I'm pretty much open to anything. XD Also, I don't care if people fave without commenting because I'm still fairly new to drawing and stuff and I appreciate it when people like my work. <33
And, for the commenting-back thing, I try to comment back on everything, even if it's just a "That's cool." I dunno, I'm just weird like that. XD

I usually don't respond to comments unless they ask a question or I have something to say other than "thanks for the comment".
