Luster and Nigel drifted down from the edge of the village at the base of the outer wall. Before them lay a dirt road dimly lit by lanterns and moonlight. They traveled along it's path for several awkward wordless hours before Nigel finally broke the tense silence. "Back in Galen, during the fray, you didn't happen to...you know..."
"No." Luster snapped firmly keeping her eyes pinned to the ground ahead of her feet. "You know it takes more than a fistful of the king's pompous lackies to anger me." A sigh escaped her lips as she pushed some loose strands of her glistening white hair back into her thick hood. "I don't think any of us want Lazarus raging at us again..."

Moira looked at Harryd.
"Yes," she admitted. "A very strange one, in fact. It was about that girl who freed us from that cage."
Moira sighed and gazed up at the twinkling stars.
"Why don't you sleep now that I'm awake," she told Harryd, rolling over on her side.

"All right," Harryd agreed. "But wake me before sunrise. We shouldn't stay in one position for too long."

For hours the soldiers remained in front of the small inn napping, talking and prodding at their captain who stayed in a deep and rather noisy slumber. Until suddenly he bolted upward wide-eyed and frenzied causing several men to fall face first into the muddy road.
"I'll finish you!!" he roared lunging an unarmed first forward and stopped in midswing realizing he was neither equipped or standing before his long departed target. Glancing around he realized his troops were staring , many of which had to turn to suppress snorts of laughter. "Well don't just stand around!!" he hollered leaping from the cart and trying to render himself a sliver of dignity. "Fugitives are on the loose and by the will of the king they must be captured!"

Moira lay there as if in a trance, staring out at the dark, starless sky and trying with all her might to stay alert. She was awfully sleepy, but she knew that Harryd needed his rest, and she had already slept enough to last her the next day.
Soon the very top of the sun was peaking over the distant hills, and Moira decided it was time to wake Harryd. He had said before sunrise, but this would be close enough.
"Harryd," she whispered, rocking his shoulder gently. "It's sunrise, we should go."
But before Moira was able to sit up and get out of the miniature cavern, she heard shouts. It was the captain's men, and they were looking for Moira, Harryd, and the mysterious girl from the previous night.

Harryd's eyes snapped open and he heard the men. "Under here!" he wispered to Moira. "Try not to move or make any noise!"

As the lot of them hurtled through the tiny village roads and out towards the wilderness a ranking lieutenant addressed his captain quietly. "Sir if it is not too bold of me to say, but it has been literally hours since the fugitives were last spotted. Perhaps it would be wise to return to the capital to gather intelligence on their whereabouts before continuing persuit. Besides the tavern has been already shut down for misconduct and that was all we were meant to complete in the first place...."
The captain's expression remained stiff and stoic until finally he growled in reply "Fine. But only because there is no indication of where they may've taken hiding." Turning on heel and bringing the advance to a halt he barked out at his men. "We shall return to the captial for reenforcements and information! There is nothing left to be found here!"

Moira looked on as the captain commanded his men back to Typhon. She breathed a sigh of relief as they turned back and began to walk the way from which they came.
"What are we going to do?" she whispered worriedly to Harryd. "They're going to come looking for us again--and we might not be so lucky that time."

"The best thing to do is keep on the move," Harryd whispered back. "I'll do my best to cover our tracks."

"I just hope the others are alright." Luster sighed, staring up at the clearing clouds. "There were quite a few patrons at the tavern. I can only pray they've found refuge instead of the inside of an overused cell."
Nigel gave her a bitter glare and shoved his hands in his breeches pockets. "You can never get it out of your head that we're some danger to those around us. Personally, I would think that more innocent bystanders could be protected from the king's jaded ruling if we at least attempted to give a hand rather than hoping they dodge soldiers on their own. But it's Deppri like you that keep our doctrine from assisting outsiders."
Luster snapped her head about and matched his expression. "Then what do you propose we do to help? Gather every person who witnesses one of our attempted arrests and stuff them into a safehold?"
Nigel snorted begrudgingly and diverted his eyes up ahead.

Moira felt her stomach growl angrily. "I'm so hungry," she moaned, rubbing her belly. "And I don't have any money. At least you get food in the dungeons!" She glared a bit at Harryd.
Moira stood up and began walking, too nervous to stay at that rock any longer. After a while she turned back to Harryd. "I'm sorry for snapping at you," she said apologetically. "I'm just so afraid and confused."

"Understandable," Harryd replied. He got out a pack and rummaged in it for a moment. Then he pulled out a piece of meat and handed it to Moira. "Sorry if it's not exactly a meal, but I need to save what little food I have."

Nigel suddenly stopped dead in his tracks as his long elfish ears perked under his hood. Luster froze as well and glanced cautiously around the wooded terrain. Both drawing their twin daggers they stood silent listening and waiting for some attack. When it didn't come Luster shouted into the forest "Who's there! Show yourselves and we will you no harm!"

((Question: are the people they hear Harryd and Moira?))
Moira took the meat gratefully and scarfed it down, coughing a little. "Wow, thank you," she said, wiping her mouth in a very uncivilized manner. "I needed that." Moira then began to laugh at herself. "Would you look at me!" she said, tears in the corners of her eyes. "I'm like a hungry wolf!" She shook her head and sighed, still chuckling.
