"Interesting," mused Xander. He drummed his fingers on his table. "Now then...what now?"

Pal drank deeply from her mug, studying the strange group in the corner; namely the strange, ashy girl. She looked to be a drow elf, but Pal had never seen one in person before, despite her experience with lands far from here. The elf seemed confused, but a kind man seemed to be helping her out... Pal continued gazing at the man, almost falling into a world of her own inside her head.
Someone dropped a glass, jolting Pal awake. She shook her head, causing her long hair to get even more messy looking, and tore her eyes away from Xander. She couldn't concern herself with other people; no one was trustworthy, after all.

Ky'sta sheepishly picked the chain up and studied the shard. It was all some sort of black of glass or crystal that only allowed any light to shine through the translucent surface. The bit that held it to the chain was a tiny ornated sliver cone.
"It's really pretty and all but I dont really know where it came from..."

"I have no clue exactly where it came from, but it came from one of the kingdoms, probably the one you came from. That applies to mine." E fingered her necklace.

Pal glanced at the small elf and the strange woman, fingering her bracelet that she'd had since she was young. They seemed to be comparing necklaces. Pal blinked and squinted, trying to catch a better glimpse of the necklaces. Could it be?
E and Ky'sta's necklaces both held similar shards... And those shards were identical to Pal's bracelet that she had recieved from her father years ago. She wasn't quite sure what it meant, but there had to be some significance to all three of them having similar shards attached to their jewelry. But what could it mean?

E thought for a moment, and then whispered, "It gives the wearer magical abilities, but I wouldn't suggest putting it on. If it gets taken off, you lose all your magical powers until the next person to wear it loses it. In which case your innate magical powers are returned."

Ky'sta squinted her eyes and pouted her lips as she prodded the sharp tip of the shard. "Magic powers huh? That sounds nice but how would I use them?

"Didn't anyone teach you?" asked Xander curiously, turning to Ky'sta. "And apparently, all this talk reminds me of this dagger I received from my parents, before they...passed on." He paused, drawing the blade from its sheath.
It was indeed a very well-made dagger, and not a single bit of rust touched the steel wedge. But as for the hilt, it was gilded and carved with strange symbols all around an engraved crystal set deep into the handle. He showed it around. "Not that I'm bragging or anything...but it has served me well. And it's been a family heirloom. It was my dad's, and my dad's dad...and you get the idea."

Pal surveyed the scene before her carefully. The man had just taken out his sword and seemed to be telling the others something. Pal knew she should go over there and ask them about her bracelet, but... She wasn't too good with people. She smiled at Char and stroked his head.
"I'm way better with animals," she muttered, giving up.

Ky'sta blinked up at her companions hopefully. "Could I just wear it and tuck it under my bodice? Magic powers sound nice and all but I don't think I'd be too happy if it could just disappear like that...."
Out of the corner of her eye she caught a glimpse of the tavern window. For a second she could have sworn she'd seen a person behind the glass staring right at them. But by the time she looked again there was nothing there but the inky grey night.

"I don't know," E said. "And one more thing. In my experience, you get more powers as you get older. And also in my experience, older and more responsible twins will get a few more powers than you that you won't get until you get much older."

Pal listened carefully to what the group was saying. It sounded to her as if these amulets had magical powers, but that couldn't be true. Pal had never shown any signs of magical ability, and she had worn this bracelet since she recieved it from her father all those years ago, never taking it off. She fingered the warm amulet carefully, eyeing it.
"Ah, heck," she muttered, standing up from her stool and setting down her mug. She traversed over to where the group was talking and stuck out her arm akwardly, the bracelet hanging down from her thin wrist.
"Can you tell me what this is?" she asked bluntly, not even bothering with politeness. She wasn't good with people.

"...it's a bracelet. A piece of jewelry you wear around your wrist." E didn't want to tell everyone about them. If everyone knew, they'd all be after someone else's.

Ky'sta completely ignored te new stranger for she seemed completely absorbed in inspecting her shiny little trinket. Pouting out her bottom lip she pull the chain over her head and let the shard fall upon her bodice. For a few minutes she hesitated and finally wrinkled her nose and glared up at E. "I don't feel any different than earlier. This thing must be broken or you're just wrong." she jeered sticking her tongue out.
