wait a moment Oswin is the new companion? What? ...I don't understand how this works. How. The only thing I can think of is timey-wimey shenanigans, but... Okay, I have no idea. But Oswin is cool, so I'm happy.

Wouldn't be the first time the series have done that as both the actresses who played Martha Jones-Smith and Amy Pond have appeared earlier, prior to being cast as the Doctor's Companion.

I find it unlikely, seeing as Oswin was such a major character in this episode, as opposed to Martha and Amy who were pretty much just extras. And also they'd already cast JLC as the new companion when they filmed this, but I doubt they'd cast Karen and Freema when they filmed the episodes they appeared in.
Personally, I think it'd either be some sort of backwards story line, like River, or an identical twin.

So...I just watched the most recent episode, and I have pretty mixed feelings about the whole thing.
I thought the story was really good! I think this might be the first time I've really liked River since the two-parter in which she was introduced. xD Also, the part with Amy and Rory on top of the building onward was really heartwrenching. Just...that whole scene. Wow.
I think the main problem I have with it is that it was so rushed. I thought the ideas were good, and there were some real emotional peaks, but I felt like I didn't really have time to process what was going on. Like, I think they probably could've made a two-parter out of this. I don't think there has been a time in the new series when there wasn't a two-parter with a companion leaving, actually...so in comparison to that, this exit felt really short. Like...maybe I'm comparing it too much with past companions, but it didn't feel like enough weight was given to their exit.
Aside from the pacing, though, I thought the writing was pretty solid. The last sequence, in particular, was pretty much a rollercoaster of emotion. (But, again, it felt so rushed! Like, especially at the end when Amy was deciding to let herself get sent back in time by the Angel, there was a sudden rush of exposition dialogue that took me out of the scene a little.)
Also, this reminds me about how inconsistent the portrayal of the Weeping Angels has been. It seems like they've decided to ignore all the neck-breaking and stuff that happened the last time they showed up. xD I'd have been a bit worried about that if I were them.
I am glad that Amy and Rory were ultimately able to live a happy life, though I would've liked to see a bit of it. Even just a moment, seeing them being reunited sometime in the past or something would've been nice. I guess it sort of makes sense to stay with the Doctor's heartbreak, though...like, the Doctor doesn't get to see them, so we don't either. I can understand why they made that choice.
I dunno. I still don't feel like I really have closure on the characters, and that's bugging me a lot. Besides that, though, I really liked the episode. So...yeah, mixed feelings.
EDIT: Also! That author-detective guy in the beginning! It's like they completely forgot about him! What the heck.

Jeeze, when I posted that spoiler picture earlier, I didn't know that it came from 'Asylum of the Daleks' at the time. I assumed that it was what was going to happen to Amy, with Rory committing suicide somewhere later on. While the ending to this episode was not quite a massive gut punch, it was still a gut punch.

Anyway, my dad thinks it was really horrible the way Amy and Rory left, but think they had it better off than most of these companions! I mean, Rose was separated FOREVER (or so she thought) from her true love, Martha had to live through a whole year of seeing the Earth get devastated by the Master (and her family got traumatized if she didn't), plus there was the whole heartbreak about her unrequited love for the Doctor, and Donna lost all her memories! I think this is actually the best way for them to go, and it would have been out of character if they had just left, because they LOVED traveling with him so much.
And even if the TARDIS can't go to THAT year, couldn't it go back to another year in their lifetime, like the year after? And wasn't River able to go there with her vortex manipulator when the TARDIS could not? He can see them again. Or it could be two different characters played by the same person. Wouldn't be the first time the series have done that as both the actresses who played Martha Jones-Smith and Amy Pond have appeared earlier, prior to being cast as the Doctor's Companion. So I'm catching up with the series, and I gotta say, Nine and Ten were fantastic. *_* My favorite episodes are probably Midnight, The Parting of the Ways, The Waters of Mars, Blink, and maybe Journey's End. As for a favorite companion, I'd have to say Martha Jones. I loved the scene in the Family of Blood two-parter where she schooled the lady in hand anatomy. :3 That said, I finished Flesh and Stone and I'm really not feeling this new season. I don't mind companions falling in love with the Doctor--although I prefer what Ten and Donna had going on--but the way Amy throws herself at the Doctor bothers me. You can tell he's uncomfortable, too. And...she's just not as interesting as Martha or Donna. I dunno. I like her actress, but not her character.

my complaints aside i hear that the 50th anniversary doctor who special will have all eleven doctors!! is this true? Unlikely. It would be very, very cool but many of them have aged quite a bit, the first few have died and some just don't want to come back. They might make cameos or appear in archive footage but don't except anything dramatic. Of course, I may be wrong. We'll see. =3

There's been rumours flying (er, no pun intended) around about it. Of course, with the advance in digital technology, I wouldn't be surprised if they're able to pull this off, seeing as the actors portraying the 1st-3rd Doctors have passed away and 4th and 5th have aged significantly (although the 5th did appear with the 10th earlier). When you're the Doctor, nothing's impossible, that 's for sure.

that was a sad episode. a very sad episode. i still don't like rory or amy. and the whole part where rory was all "i love you more than you love me" was just...i'm pretty sure it was only there for the dramatic reveal of amy being infertile, because that was kind of a jerk move on rory's part. i'm really hoping this is eleven's last season, though. i don't like the guy very much. ono nor do i like the current head writer!!

I just watched The Angels take Manhattan. Probably the most depressing episode I have ever seen. I shall now adopt the foetal position and cry in a corner
