if i'm not mistaken, today is the 48th anniversary of doctor who, yes?

I just started watching this show! Because I felt that my sci-fi nerd cred was not quite up to par until I had. xD Two episodes in and I'm hooooked. Loving the Ninth Doctor and Rose, so far. I'm really excited to see the other companions and other incarnations of the Doctor that I keep hearing about on the Internet. XD

I'm curious to watch the older series too, though I probably won't go looking for it till after I've gotten caught up on the new series.

Bad news, people: Amy and Rory will be gone sometime in the next series.

Bad news, Doctor Who fans: The Doctor is on the hunt for a companion. Who executive producer Steven Moffat revealed that Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond, and Arthur Darvill, who portrays Rory, will be written out next season.

“The final days of the Ponds are coming,” Moffat divulged to Britain’s The Telegraph. “It’s during the next series. I’m not telling you when and I’m not telling you how. That story is going to be a heartbreaking one.”

His only hint about a new companion for The Doctor is that the hunt is on for one, but he won’t reveal “anything about he, she or it.”

“We took over the show and we really had to hold hands and help each other through it,” Matt Smith, who portrays the newest Time Lord, told the paper. “It’s very disappointing. But this show is about change and regeneration.”

The duo made a splash two seasons ago in the latest incarnation in the long-running British sci-fi series; they’ll next be seen on the special Christmas episode of Doctor Who, “The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe,” airing Sunday, Dec. 25, at 9 p.m. ET on Space.

So the Silents are called such because in order to prevent the prophecy, they had to explode the TARDIS, thus hoping to destroy the Doctor, making those cracks in the time-space continuum, where all life is erased? So when the characters in series 5 refer to "Silence will fall" they are referring to the erasure of the Universe due to the cracks?
