(Bettyming, please don't simulate other people's characters. Unless the character is an NPC, don't make them move when they're not yours)
Cat Assassin glared at Bettyming in a much colder way. "Don't even act as if you know this person, lass," he uttered grimly. "Leave the interrogation to us if you don't have anything good to say."
"Jernath," the feline turned towards the archer, still retaining the cold expression on his face. He couldn't smell anything that might signify whether the archer was lying or not, which gave him a bad sign. "Someone who looks exactly like you? I thought the rogue ninja killed all of your cohorts? Who, do you think, will dress up exactly like you did and start pointing arrows at other people?" he asked.

((XD; Don't feel too bad, Bettyming. At least it wasn't anything major. But yeah. NPCs = controllable, but PCs = not. On a semi-related note, SRGNG was an NPC at some point, but he's kinda shifted over to PC. So... I guess people can godmode him if they want, but I do kinda have an idea for him later on, so nothing too major... anyway. Onto the post))
Jernath crossed his arms over his chest. "Look, I said 'assume' because I don't know when this whole shooting thing was supposed to have even happened, alright? If you want me to be more specific, I went out hunting at sunrise, and have been out here in the woods ever since. I didn't go to the village at all during that time."
Upon hearing Cat Assassin's question, Jernath's eyes narrowed. "No, the rogue did not kill the Rangers. The rogue burned down my home village. It was YOU guys who killed the Rangers!"
There was a pause. Jernath sighed, then continued.
"I don't know, maybe someone was trying to frame me or something. Who, or why, I'm not sure." He paused briefly, trying to think of someone who would want to get him in trouble. The rogue, maybe? She was already ruining the ninjas' reputation; maybe she decided to ruin the Rangers' too... "Look, I'm telling you all I know. If there's a way I could prove to you I didn't do it..."

((I may have confused you all- Zaha referrs to children of any kind as "kittens" whether they are her species or not.))
"Jernath. A woman back there's kitten- No, all of you, I do not mean a pet, I mean a young one of her blood- was killed, apparently by someone who looked exactly like you." Zaha stated quietly. "I honestly do not want to believe you killed the youngster, but all evidence goes in that direction but for what we have attempted to dissuade these villagers from gutting you with much gusto."
Unknowing to her, Zaha's voice had begun to rise. "As far us I am concerned, we have just saved your ungrateful human hide from a gruesome death without proper trial and any attempt to find another suspect. We may have killed your comrades, but as I recall it, Jernath dear, they attacked us first- we defended ourselves accordingly. Don't bring up what's irrelevant to the subject at hand. I want you to be as honest with us as you can. Do you have that kitten's blood on your hands?" The anthro cat drew herself up to her full height, glanced at the other ninja's, then suddenly deflated, hanging her head.
"I hate needless death, especially of the young.' she mumbled. " I know as much as anyone that sometimes to kill is necessary, but to be honest Jernath has never shown any murderous tendencies. I still don't believe it. I have a hunch. My hunches are usually at least partly correct."

Jernath sighed exasperatedly in response to Zaha. She was right; the Rangers DID attack first. But regardless, it didn't matter now.
"No, Zaha, I did not kill anything today besides deer. I don't know how more straightforward I can BE." He was really getting sick of arguing at this point, considering he had been moreorless saying the same thing over and over again. What did he have to say to get them to believe him?
SRGNG paced back and forth, scratching his chin thoughtfully. "Alright, Jernath. So let's assume there was someone who was just so incredibly angry at you that they would impersonate you and shoot a child. Now, if I may ask, who would actually be willing to do something that drastic?"
"I've already said I don't know!" Jernath groaned. "Most people who knew me are dead by now, and I don't remember anyone being particularly mad at me anyway. What if it's that rogue causing trouble like she always does?"
"Jernath..." PFA finally spoke up, "...does the rogue even know you exist? I mean, it's not like she knew there'd be revenge-driven survivors from the village she destroyed. She probably thinks you all died."
Jernath tried to come up with a proper response to that, but instead just groaned and started pondering over other possible suspects.

Cat Assassin sighed. The investigation itself was getting out of hand, and judging by the constant grumbling of the villagers behind them they need to agree on one decision concerning Jernath. Looking at the archer's reaction towards the sudden bombardment of questions thrown at him, the feline wasn't sure if he really was the person who killed that villager's lamb.
"That's enough, all of you," Cat Assassin broke out the eventual monotone of the discussion. "If Jernath really means what he's saying, then we can't force him to tell us that he did otherwise. That'll be unfair for him to admit something he didn't do," he finished up, staring at Jernath with a sympathetic look on his face despite the things the archer had verbally rubbed on the ninjas about his fellow rangers.
"Mayor," Cat Assassin started addressing the head of the town. "I'm pretty aware of your own opinions, but we can't punish someone who, to some extent, hasn't done anything wrong, at least without proof. Still, in behalf of the ninjas, I apologize for what happened to one of your villagers' lambs."
"So what am I going to tell these people of mine, cat?" scowled the mayor. "That we're letting you go because we weren't able to find the culprit?"
"... Give me one good reason why we should stay and let that rogue ninja remain loose to wreck havoc on other towns, and I'll follow you," Cat Assassin angrily said, his teeth already gritting.
Intimidation and lack of logic prevented the mayor from speaking any further. It wouldn't be fair to tell them about Jernath's guilt because there was no more evident proof that he did so in the first place. The woman who yelled "Red-haired archer" was not a good evidence at all.
"Guys, we're heading back to the inn," Cat Assassin turned around, anger still present in his voice. "We're leaving this weird place once and for all."

"Thank goodness. This place smells like dog poop... So now the question is... where do we go now?" asked Bettyming, who was fiddling with the zipper on her hoodie. "I mean, are there any other towns around here?"

There was a mumble of protest amongst the crowd of villagers, but they made no move to stop the ninjas--and Jernath--from leaving.
"I'd assume we'd continue on our way to finding the rogue," PFA said in response to Bettyming. "I mean, that's what we came out here to do. If we don't find her soon, our superiors are going to get mad..."
Once they had left earshot of the villagers, SRGNG spoke up. "You know, it's going to bother me until I know. If Jernath didn't shoot that kid... then who did?"

((Godmodding a bit to move the storyline along...))
"It doesn't matter now," Cat Assassin talked to them without turning his head. "Whoever it was, that person could be anywhere up to now. It could even be the rogue ninja. One thing is for certain, however; we won't find that person in this village."
The ninjas went back to the inn, which was void of any inhabitant including the chef and the hotel manager. "Pack up your respective belongings before they come back," he said as he positioned himself near the inn's entrance. "... And don't steal anything that isn't yours. I'll be on patrol and see if the villagers are here."

Sleepy-eyed and more than a little groggy, Jakie wandered out from the little room she'd spent the night into the inn's main lobby. TWC was curled up in her hood as usual. "What'd I miss?" This was directed at Cat Assassin, who seemed to be keeping watch over the front doors. Jakie had the odd feeling she had missed some large and important event, but that couldn't be right. She hadn't eaten breakfast after all, and nothing ever happened before breakfast.
