{So here's what I'm thinkin', right? Instead of having a set character page, outlining looks, stats and what not, why don't we let our writing do all that for us? And because I'm such a hopeless PoTC freak, I decided I'd like to attempt a pirate RPG. Now, keep in mind, just because it's called a Pirate RPG, you can add other characters who aren't pirates...but fit in that general, uh, genre. Savvy? Awright, then!}
It was a beautiful day. The sky was clear and blue, the sun set high and warm, and seagulls cackled merrily to eachother as they circled the glittering, infinite sea. Clear water splashed and inched it's way up a soft, sandy beach, over pebbles, seaweed, driftwood...
And a body!
Sprawled on the pale sand was a dark woman, black hair spread like the kelp that was scattered around her. Littered in those dark tresses were shells, coins and other trinkets, and her outfit was sadly torn and drenched. She was motionless, and the poor girl had every appearance of a corpse washed ashore.

{Just trying to figure out a good character.... Ooh, just got a good idea...
Name: Kartia (goes by Black Widow, or Widow. No one knows her real name.)
Appearance: Fair skin, black hair, dark brown eyes. Wears shades of red and black.
Attitude: completely anti-social. And I MEAN anti-social.
Weapons: Two daggers, and several metal boomerang-type things shaped like a spider.
Can she have any magic/special powers, or is this RP supposed to be as 'normal' as possible?
Don't know what to write... I shall wait a little, see if anyone else joins...}

((Well, I was hoping no one would write what you just did: a profile. ^_^;;; Ah well. Guess its too much to ask for.
I'd prefer it if there was no magic...but we'll see.))

Er... I shall join.
A strong young man walked up to the body washed ashore. He stood over it for a second, then knelt down. He didn't want to be disrespectful by poking it, yet wanted to see if it was alive.

The sun was starting to sink as Tavya, daughter of the famous pirate James Kerch ((inventing a name, mind you. Just pretend he's famous)) who was currently out roaming the innocent seas. He had dumped his 16-year-old daughter off at a small uncharted island, simply because he said that a ship was no place for a woman. She longed to be a pirate, to steal from ships out among the big blue, to watch them burn as her own ship would pull away, rocking violently in the storm and laughing at the dying lives behind it. Now, her chances were slimmer than her late mother in a corset, and it was all because of her father. She now felt that her destiny was to seek him out and finally give him what he deserved.
Tavya had been on the island for around three months, and her once-fair skin was now tanned and brown. Her once brilliantly black hair had dulled into a medium brown beneath the bright sun. She had lost quite a bit of weight, too, do to lack of food. She could feel herself growing more and more tired by the day...she could feel herself slowly, painfully dying in both pathetic self-pity and raging anger.
She stared off into the distance, and to her utter amazement, saw a ship on the horizon, approaching where she stood...
((someone else could be on the ship if they want. This is going to be fun ^_^))

{Sorry... I'm used to profiles...
No magic? Not even a special ability? Phooey. That's gonna kill the character's name.
Ooh! Me! Me! I'll be on the ship!}
"Put down the anchor!" Barked the captain as I strode across the deck. "Get some boats ready! You lot, make sure you lower enough of 'em to get a decent haul in one trip, this time!" He yelled at a small group of men. being the second mate, I didn't have to do regular crew's duties, though I did have to make sure I did a good share of work.
"Widow, you get the shipment this time," commanded the captain. "Now!"
"Yessir," I said, going over to the men lowering the boats. "Quicker! I want to get a load over to this ship before the day's out!" I barked at them, inwardly wishing I hadn't suggested we have small 'warehouses' scattered on the smaller islands around here, even though I knew how logical it was, to not have to risk being pirated by fellow outlaws on our way back to port.

"BLOODY MUTINY!"
The previously unconcious woman sputtered awake, flailing her fists and coughing. Sitting up and gasping, her wild hair (braided with all sorts of coins and trinkets) blinked, her dark face scowling at the ocean.
After a moment, the girl (although upon closer inspection, she was older-looking up-close) noticed the young man. "Eh...?" Her voice was low and hoarse, thick with the accent of low British birth. "And who might YOU be, lad?"

((I'm pretty confused myself. I had originally made the setting a beach, but when Smiley posted, I figured her ship was just close by, on the water.))

((I said on the horizon, so basically, kinda far away...but I can see how you could be confuzzled. Basically, the ship was far away when Tavya first saw it, but as of right now I don't know...it's up to Peanut))

{Er... sorry, thought I'd put in a bit where I'd come on land... If you hadn't noticed, I was using the little storehouse thing from the island that Jack was marooned on after the mutiny } After a while, the rowers finally got to the shore. "C'mon, get goin! Get a load on before highsun, and you won't have to be workin' when the sun's hot, 'cause you ain't gettin a break!" I yelled at them. "Hey, wassat?" asked one of them, pointing to something. "You get that load, sailor! Don't ye worry 'bout anything else!" I snapped, walking towards the figure. "What're you doin' on this island, kid? Shouldn't you be huggin yer mothers skirts somewhere in a wealthy town?" I asked the girl.

((Hehe, I nearly started this RP a few weeks ago, being a total PotC nut))
Elyssa swam through the ocean, choking and spluttering. It seemed she'd been swimming for a good few hours. Her usually lily white face was an alaming shade of crimson, and her copper hair was plastered to her face. She looked around angrily, for any sign of civilization. Nothing.
"Bloody... men," she spluttered, wrenching a ring from her finger, and tossing it into the waves. Her husband-to-be had gotten cold feet at last minute, and floated her out to sea, tied to a couple of floorboards. When Elyssa had finally loosened the rope, she had found herself in the middle of nowhere.
Suddenly, she spotted a speck of land on the horizon. A board grin spreading across her face, she straightened her bandana, and headed for shore...

{Okay, whoa. We have all this characters in different settings. Tres confusing. } The girl blinked and stood up, revealing that she was quite tall. Her lips split into a wide grin, and a few silver teeth glinted in the sunlight. This woman was by no means pretty, but her smile (bad teeth and all) was friendly. "If my mother were livin', mate, I bet she'd not be too happy," she replied. The comment that she should be in a "wealthy town" was completely ridiculous: her clothes were that of a sailor, and her hygiene was...less than perfect.
