{Being in a wealthy town doesn't mean a wealthy SECTION of town...}
"Ah. Orphan, are ye? What 'appened, shipwreck?" I didn't think that was likely-we hadn't seen any sunken ships near the island when we'd come in, and she didn't look like she'd come to the island by that way. She wouldn't be so thin, if that were the case, as she could have taken all the food off the wrecked ship, but I couldn't think of anything else.

The smile vanished from her face, and the girl glanced away, light green eyes scanning the sand. "No good comes from livin' in the past, right?" she replied, a forced cheer in her low voice.
"Now, where's me darn hat..."

Elyssa scrambled ashore, her hair tangled with seaweed. She stood upright, straightened her bandana, and scanned the island for inhabitants. There were a few people, and a boat, father down. Groaning loudly, she drained the water from her hair, kicked off her boots, and trundled across wearily.
"Aloha, my good people. I was wondering, see, if you perhaps had any room on yer ship for an old fool like me?" she said loudly, her eye fixed upon the ship.

{Hehe, nice avatar... could use another POTC character, though *cough*William*cough*}
"Understandable," I said quietly to the girl. "We've got a bit of space on the ship," I said loudly to the other person, "though it'll be pretty darn crouded, seeing as the cap'n don't like women in with the rest of the crew. You'd be sharin' in on the second mate's cabin with me an' the medicine box. Asides that, cap'n don't let no sailor on 'is ship without a name," I told her. "An' you?" I asked, turning to the first girl, "You gonna try gettin' on? Migh' as well, lookin' at ye. Ye'd either sign on now or stow away, wouldn' ye?"

{Noo. It's ALL Jack. Mmmm.}
Laughing heartily, the girl straightened from where she was digging in the moist sand. In her hands was a sandy, soaked tricorner hat that had obviously seen better days.
"Now, mate, I can't be decidin' anything 'till I've seen the vessel, eh?" she chuckled, shaking out the hat. She glanced at the other bedraggled girl, and snorted.

Tavya had been watching the ship from the hillside as it pulled up to shore. Now was her chance to finally get out of that miserable pit of life-lessness...
She paused, staring at the crew. There were already two girls, both stranded, who had managed to speak with them...there were actual people there...
She ran ahead, stopping just before the girls and the crew. "Let me on the ship," she said forcefully, a hint of desperateness in her voice. "I've been stuck 'ere for three months all thanks to that lousy father o' mine..."

"Three, now? My my, what a catch," I said sarcastically. "First, ye give me yer names and how the hell you got to our island in the first place," I told them. "Second, I take a boat over to the ship and to the captain. I'm on'y second mate, so I don't make the decisions on the ship, but we're down several men after the last pirating, so he'll take darn near anyone on. Lastly, we're gonna figure out how we're gonna fit four women into a room the size of a needle. Cap'n don' like women in with the men, yassee."

((OOC. - Hehe, thanks )) ((OOC. II - Yes, it is all about the Jack. I'm anti-Bloomist )) "I be Elyssa. Elyssa Blackboot. An dun be gerrin' yerself in a mess about fittin' me in a room, i'll be sleepin' anywheres yeh be puttin' me, as long as it ain't floating out on the sea." she said roughly, "And as far as I be concerned, th' less men I be encounterin', the bett'r" She flopped onto the warm sand, and breathed deeply. Her clothes would be dry in no time, the sun was burning down heavily. She continued to speak; "And how I got 'ere? Let's just say me and meh boy found ourselves... driftin' apart" she spat, closing her eyes tightly.

"I'm Tavya Kerch, son of James Kerch. I got 'ere when 'e decided 'e didn't think I belonged on a ship, even though I'd been helping around the ship all o' my life. I've been stuck 'ere for three months and I'm about ready to leave..."

The girl with the cluttered, wild black hair and light green eyes had been watching with jovial interest as the other two made their introductions.
When a silence fell, and it was obviously her turn to introduce herself, the girl stopped rocking on her heels and grinned that horrible but endearing grin.
"An' I'm Captain Katherine Spade o' the, regretably sunken, Lady Luck!" she announced, sweeping off her just recovered hat in a courtly bow. When she straightened, her coffee-colored face was bright with amusement.
"An' 'ere we are, three sodden salty sea wenches-" her gaze flicked to the second mate, "-an' one second mate with no time for fun, eh?" She chuckled to herself, hands clasped behind her back.

{Forget taking Tracy aboard-I'll chain her to the rudder instead!}
"Captain, eh? Well, m'cap'n ain't likely to give ye the first mate or cap'n position, if'n that's what yer hopin'," I told her.
"Bin working on a ship all yer life, have ye? That's a good call for ye. Not a one slacks off on this ship, and the more you know of takin' care of one, the better," I said to the other girl.
"Lessee, now," I said turning to the final girl. "Either a shipwreck or cold feet, me be guessin'. Well, don' worry 'bout bein' in with the men, 'cause as I said before, cap'n don' like women in with ther men," I told the final girl.
"Lop! Knuckles! Get yer arses over 'ere!" I yelled at a couple of shipmates.
"What?" Asked Lop when he got over.
I jerked my head in the direction of the girls. "Got sum innerested in workin' on the ship, 'ere. Need ta bring 'em to the cap'n an' see if they can join the crew, so's they c'n start workin' straightaways. Now, get a boat into the water so's we can get these girls to the ship!" I bellowed, and they hurried to obey. No one wanted to be on bad terms with an angry second mate with a bad temper, or a captain who heard that someone had disobeyed the first mate.

Kate's lips curled up in amusement, but she said nothing. Of course she had no intention whatsoever of having any rank on the ship...she just wanted to get off the bloody island and go about her...business.
But she knew, as most likey the other girls knew, that nothing was for free, and a vessle as fine as this one was no cruise ship. Work was work, and Kate wasn't so egotistical that she couldn't climb the rigging or swab the deck like the rest of them.
A breeze blew, and Kate's hair clinked.

Tavya smiled, staring out at the sea. She was going to be back again, out on a ship, doing the work of sailors...where she belonged.

When the boat was ready to be launched, I called over my shoulder.
"C'mon, you three! Tavya, kid, you gonna stand there forever? Get a move on, mate!"

When the boat was ready to be launched, I called over my shoulder. "C'mon, you three! Tavya, kid, you gonna stand there forever? Get a move on, mate!" ((I didn't know we were boarding yet XD)) Tavya hurried over to the boat and climbed in. "Where is the ship headed?" she asked the second mate, even though she didn't really care where she went as long as it wasn't on that island.
