"To a pirate port," I answered. "Divvytown, to be exact. You can get the best prices for rum, there."

"Did you say...Divvytown?" Kate asked slowly, eyes widening. She stopped in her tracks up the plank to the deck, staring at the second mate.

"Yeah, Divvytown. What's wrong wi' it? Just a town like any other, just better fer sellin rum in," I said.

"Ah...right," Kate answered, grinning quickly to cover up her reaction. She continued to walk on the deck, inhaling the sea breeze and smiling. She was in her element, and it was almost enough to make her forget the approaching problem of Divvytown...
Divvytown...

Tavya stared out into the sea, breathing in the fresh ocean air.
"Rum, you say?" she said in a dazed voice. "Nothing better than rum...do you happen to have any onboard?"

"We will as soon as those lasy excuses for sailors get the shipment over, but don' expect t'be drinkin' any anytime soon. The cap'n don' like any of 'is crew drinkin' too much, yassee. More'n a gulp a month's drunk 'nuff for 'im to kick ye off. 'T least, that's 'is 'scuse. He jus' wants as much as poss'ble to sell, an' don' like givin' cargo to 'is crew, methinks," I told her, striding across the deck.
"Yo! Sorcor! Where's the cap'n?" I yelled at the first mate.
"In 'is cabin, wot ya think?" he shouted back.
"Takin' a care to what 'is crew be thinkin' for once, that's wot I think!" I yelled back.
"There's gonna be a mutiny any day now, just you wait," I whispered to the girls. "Crew's bin unrestful for weeks now, an' the cap'n's bin neglectin' us. No' gettin' 'nuff supplies when we ge' to port, no' given us fair shares, an' the like. I'll wager a ship to a plank 'at Sorcor'll be th' cap'n in a few days, mark me words," I told them, quieting down as we neared his cabin door.
"Got some new recruits, sir!" I shouted as I pounded on the door.

I shouted as I pounded on the door. Tavya stood back as the second mate banged on the cabin door. Well, if this captain didn't like the sailors to drink rum, maybe she ought to stay at Divvytown once they arrived. She had some money with her, she could make a life of her own, and have all the rum she wanted. "What kind o' things are at Divvytown?"

I shrugged. "Main Pirate city. Think like all towns squashed in one, an' that's Divvytown. Why, ye thinkin' o' bailin' on us when we get there? Don' think 'ats a good idea. Not all pirates are as ready t' welcome a female to ther ship as cap'n is, an' when Sorcor takes over 'e's bound to change a lot o' things so no one else thinks o' takin' the cap'n place too soon after th' mutiny, so pretty much whatever ye want'll be given," I told them as the captain opened the door.
"Ye' call these recruits?" he asked, outragous. "I ain't fer given any more female whelps positions on me ship!" he shouted.
"You let me on, with no pre'vus 'sperience on a ship," I pointed out. "An' this girl here 'as a cap'n once. That 'un worked on one all 'er life."
"Fine!" he snarled, slamming the door.
"Looks like yer on," I said casually.

Kate stifled a smile, standing straight, her eyes averted as to not offend or challange the higher ranking woman. "Pleased t' be aboard, mate. What needs t' be done?"
While she awaited her orders, Kate was coming up with a plan. There was no way she'd be able to stay alive at Divvytown, thanks to a past discretion she'd prefer to forget. As it was, a rather large group of pirates hadn't forgotten or forgiven Kate, and if they heard word she was around...
She'd be dead.

I glanced over the side of the ship towards the island.
"Well, looks like ye got off gettin' a boat o' cargo, but ye've gotta get helpin' unload. Throw over the ladders an' such, an' bring the rum below."
I walked away from them, bellowing orders at the crew. Sorcor was talking with a few who'd been left behind when the rest of the crew had been getting some cargo with me. Plotting out the mutiny, no doubt.
I licked my lips at the thought of a new captain. This one was far too stingy with the rum.
