At least the AAI games aren't canon with the rest of the series. XD I've never played them, so I have no idea what went down. What do you mean aren't canon? Do you mean relevant, maybe? Because I've not seen anything that suggests they're non-canon in the series. AAI is a spin-off. Maybe better wording would be that it has no continuity with the main story/series. The big hint to me is that the new AA game is Gyakuten Saiban 5 and not 7. It looks like they're skipping right over the two AAI games in terms of title numbering. (AA, JFA, TT, AJ, AA5)

Yeah, it has no bearing on the main storyline of games, but it's still considered canon to the main series, even if it doesn't matter. (although I'm not sure of the canonicity of the Layton crossover game)

(although I'm not sure of the canonicity of the Layton crossover game) I guess we will know for sure if events/characters from AAI are mentioned in AA5. XD (Afterall, case 1-5 wasn't considered canon until AA3.) My best guess is that the Layton crossover isn't canon with anything except itself. XD

To me, just because it's not referenced or has no direct impact on the main story doesn't mean that it is non-canon. i.e. Those events are still part of Edgeworth's history and experiences, regardless if they impact the main story directly (only way it wouldn't be is if they outright contradicted without retcon). Which is why I prefer discussing whether they're relevant or not. And wasn't 1-5 retconned in? It wasn't in the original GBA game, they made it for the DS version. So the other games didn't know about it in original releases, but as far as I knew it wasn't doubted to be canon so much as a retcon latter addition. Although I'm trying to remember how AA3 legitimized it (though I'm thinking it was something done in the porting process, or maybe a slight overlap in porting the original AA to the DS in 2005 and AA3 hitting GBA in 2004). Full agreement on the Layton bit, though. XD Like the Inuyasha movies, they have their own separate thing.

Stal Oh yeah, I forgot that "canon" can have multiple meanings. Television, literary and certain fandoms all use it differently. I meant it as 'exists in the continuity'. The continuity of the main numbered Ace Attorney games. It seems to me that the spin-off games are canon to themselves, but not necessarily to eachother. So we might get a totally different story for Edgeworth in AA5 if Investigations isn't being counted. (and right now it seems that way with the new game being titled #5, when the first Investigations game was technically the 5th AA game) I've always thought they weren't canon, anyway. *shrug* Of course, AA5 could easily prove otherwise. XD My mistake, it was Apollo Justice that confirmed it with a returning character and case references. Derp. Considering the massive quantities of fridge logic the series holds, 1-5 in itself isn't too massive with retconning or inconsistencies. XD

My tendency is to believe all the games are canon unless directly contradicted somewhere, not the other way around. :3

I just wish they would localize AAI2.

I would think that AAI is considered canon, but isn't really going to be brought up in AA5, just if I had to guess. I mean, as far as I know, there weren't any particularly game-changing events in either of the AAI games that would particularly effect the rest of the series (though I can't say for sure with AAI2 since obviously I've not played it), so I'm guessing it won't matter either way. XD Though it wouldn't be the first time Capcom's shattered continuity, if they are indeed proved to be non-canon.

Wouldn't the English voice be the same person they used for the fighting game?

Wouldn't the English voice be the same person they used for the fighting game? Not necessarily. Capcom's used different voices between games before.

Hey guys, who among you has gotten/is getting/will be getting AA5 a.k.a. Dual Destinies? I believe it's out now and many of my AA friends are just playing it right now.
I don't have a 3DS so I'll just wait for my friend to finish playing and then borrow from him.
