"This is the castle of the Queen of Fae," Chanandra explained, business-like. "She would like to speak to you." Norina looked worried. "Why?" "Oh, just to congratulate them on joining the magical society," her sister replied airily, "and perhaps test their power. Come this way." The fae flew ahead of them, leading the travelers down narrow corridors, up sweeping stairways, and through ancient courtyards. Finally, they stopped in a room in which a fae, slightly taller than Norina and Chanandra, reclined regally on a diamond-studded throne. Leslie gasped in awe of the room, ignoring the queen for a moment. Moving pictures glistened across the porcelain surfaces of vases and the seashells lining the walls sang in melodious voices. A silver mirror waxed and waned like a moon while butterflies danced in a polished globe. She turned her attention to the fae on the throne. Her face was narrow and ivory-pale, with high-cheekbones and thin lips, her skin flawless but for the lines at the corner of her eyes. Her white taffeta gown flowed around her in a non-existant breeze, and a delicate silver tiara sat upon her glossy, midnight-black locks. She wasn't stunningly beautiful, but something about her fathomless black eyes made her seem as ancient and wise as the sea.

When Hannah saw the queen, she began to get nervous. Yes, she was claustrophobic, but she was also scared of being around people of importance. She had a feeling that the queen could read Hannah's mind as well. She saw the queen open her mouth to speak.

"Welcome, children of Earth," the queen murmured, her voice ringing with regal importance. "It has come to my attention that you are the youngest ever to see the Orbs of Power. I wish to welcome you into our society in person." Leslie's palms were sweating with nervousness. "Y-yes your majesty?" she stammered. The queen nodded. "You have also dealt with Valysa and Vanayara of Dark Moor, two individuals you have been trying to overthrow me since the time my reign began. For that I wish to thank you." Norina flew in front of the throne. "Your majesty? What is the true reason you summoned us here." The queen sighed, a dark shadow passing over her wise eyes. "I have much to tell you."

"What is it that you wish to tell us?" Hannah asked, not very afraid of the queen anymore. She thought in her mind, "I sense a foreshadow approaching."

The queen began to speak, but was interrupted by a human mage. "Your majesty!" the woman cried, "there is trouble in the capital." The queen sighed. "Let's go."

"Yup, a foreshadow."
"What's going on?" Hannah asked a random person who knew.

It was the scribe in the hallway, a young, plump, bewildered fae with a carrot-colored curls, watery blue eyes, and sweating palms. "Wh-what was that, madam?" she stammered. "Oh, what's going on? Apparently, someone left open a portal to the capital and forgot to seal it. Now all types of human lunatics are walking in at all hours of the day, asking us to grant their wishes." The scribe sighed. "I'm writing letters to send to Atlantis, Skyhaven, and the rest of the magical kingdom to assess the damage and that sort of thing. Move along now." As Norina flew passes Leslie, the girl hissed in her ear. "There are more magical communities? And who opened the portal?" Norina sighed and motioned for the girls to continue walking, her own back and fluttering wings facing Chanandra and the queen. "Well, it wasn't our portal. It was self-sealing. My sources say it originated in Bangkok, Thailand, but these things spread if they're left unattended. My guess was, it was either an exiled fae or a Gifted human with no idea to what they've done." Leslie looked skeptical. "Humans can open portals? You told me it was only faes." "Humans with strong magic," Norina replied. "I didn't want to get technical. Come on now, don't stop moving."

Hannah pondered.
"What are we supposed to do? Wipe their memories and send them back?" Hannah asked.
Just then, a human came into view. She started whispering in a language Hannah didn't understand. After all, they ARE from Thailand.

Chanandra groaned. "We can't wipe memories. Where did you get that idea, one of your human fairy tales? We have the ability, but it's against the Sacred Code of Magic. Most inconvenient, as it happens." The Thai girl approached them slowly, babbling in a baby version of the Thai language. She looked hardly older than about three or four years. Chanandra hovered in front of her. "Human child, do you speak the language of the faes?" The girl's eyes went wide, her mouth opening as if she was about to erupt in ear-splitting screams. "Ahayaslan," she whimpered at last. Hello. Norina sighed. "It looks as if you have found our mysterious portal opener." She glanced at Leslie and Hannah. "It looks as if you too might have been upstaged. This child looks hardly beyond infancy.

Hannah looked at the girl for awhile, and gasped.
"Emily! I thought you were dead!" Then she stared closer. "Are you?"

The girl shook her head furiously. "Don't be silly, Hannah! I survived... somehow." Her brow furrowed with thought, an eerie expression for one so young. "Is it magic, Hannah? Is it?" Leslie peered at Emily, who glared at her. "Oh!" the adolescent gasped. "Sorry. Yes, it is magic. We have it, too. Hannah and me. How did you-" Leslie paused, her face mirroring Emily's in its thoughtfulness. "Because of me," a voice announced the distance. Leslie turned to find a human mage cloaked in black satin, her eyes glittering with joy. Leslie was confused. The attire reminded her of Vanayara, but the woman's lovely face, cherubic smile, and all-knowing eyes made her want to trust her. "Explain yourself," the queen replied.

Hannah had mixed feelings. She wanted to trust the woman who left the portal open, but she also knew that something bad was about to happen.
And Hannah was right about the second part. She had a very strange feeling that the person was of the shadow legeon. She saw a sword gleaming in his cloak, but she had a feeling the others wouldn't see it. She tried to say something, but her mouth was shut, and it wouldn't open.
