Post by Vyt: Down, but Not Out on Oct 2, 2008 22:36:26 GMT -5
Since no one from the Ninja Guild offered to be a playable character, I might as well jump in. Tell me if I'm not allowed so I can change it back. Name: Vyt Guild: Ninjas Description of Personality: A very bubbly person who makes corny jokes and squeezes it in, even if he's serious over something. Yeah, he's that helpful. </sarcasm> Picture or Description: He's the one on the left.Vyt wears a shirt that changes color depending on his mood (you can leave that out and give him a simple shirt). He wears grey pants and has pointed bracers, anklets and collar. He has black messy hair. Do you want to be the starting party member?: No. I'd like my character to appear the ninja way. Other: Umm, he's a catboy?

Hi, um, I'd like to apply to be a random NPC Name: Pacmanite Where Your Character Would Usually Be Found: Any board on Artist's Alley. Most often either Art 101 or the Art studio Description of Personality: I'm kind of introverted... sort of. I really like art, I like commenting on other people's art, and so on, but that's my interests, not my personality. Hmm. Well, I like to be kind to people whether they're considered noobs or not. I like to say something nice or not say anything at all. Though at times I can get kind of argumentative. Picture or Description: Would it be copyright infringement if my picture was a little pacman creature? If you don't want to use that, then my persona is a red wattlebird. Other: Maybe I'd make a good adviser sort of NPC, telling the character how to do something? Or, whatever you'd prefer. Thanks for considering me as an NPC, anyway Has the 1337 dice game been suggested as a possible minigame? Oh wait, scratch that, it would be the boringest minigame ever made xD Never mind.

Since no one from the Ninja Guild offered to be a playable character, I might as well jump in. Tell me if I'm not allowed so I can change it back. Well, if you have the playable character form and a ninja mod shows up, you really don't need to change it. The playable character thing has all the information of the NPC one, plus a few categories. So you can leave it as is. Picture or Description: Would it be copyright infringement if my picture was a little pacman creature? If you don't want to use that, then my persona is a red wattlebird. ~~~~~~ Thanks for considering me as an NPC, anyway Has the 1337 dice game been suggested as a possible minigame? Oh wait, scratch that, it would be the boringest minigame ever made xD Never mind. Well, I don't know about Pacman, depending on how generic I make it look, it could be alright, but with your name being Pacmanite... Having both might be too risky. As for the 1337 dice game, it would work. I mean, some of the mini-games are going to be for earning shinies, as opposed to the pure fun of them. Plus, I could add more prizes than just for the 1337 jackpot. (1, 42, 777, etc) I was actually thinking about including it already, actually. It wouldn't be too difficult to code, either. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't know, the shape is so recognizable you might still be risking infringement with that alone, especially if the shape is yellow. I don't know all the ins and outs of copyright laws, but I think the bird would be the safer option.

That's fine, but the bird would be kind of tricky to sprite, I'd imagine ^^; Here are some more reference pictures if you need them (and if my cartoon drawing of the bird is too misleading on its anatomy) peter-moulding.net/images/australia/red_wattlebird_l.jpgmedia-2.web.britannica.com/eb-media/68/115368-004-E7E3A1EF.jpgwww.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/3889398/2/istockphoto_3889398_australian_red_wattle_bird.jpgMy red wattlebird doesn't have any distinctive markings, it's just a red wattlebird. But you could tweak her proportions to be fatter and rounder so she can fit in a 20 x 20 pixel square easier xD Also, I can help you with writing music, once I actually get the software from my head of music teacher. I've already written a piece on the piano (before I saw this thread) that goes for about 2 or 3 minutes, but it doesn't really sound like videogame music. It's kind of a slow waltz, and a bit lullaby-ish. But it *might* be relevant to one of the opening levels, or something. Or a slow level, or an underwater level. Not that there'd be large bodies of water in the NTWF... except maybe around the pirate guild area...

I'd be glad for any music contributions I can get.

I should be able, mind you, I'm still a college student with a lot of obligations so it could be many months later. Oh, and wish me luck composing it, I was about your age(maybe younger) last time I tried this kind of thing so my stuff sounded a little like what you posted. But hey, that was years ago, surely I've improved a little...

All right, I don't know how well this is going to work when you download it, but I played around with composing in a free program called Anvil Studio and got a .mid file at the end of it all, and for some reason, none of the hosts that I could find out there seemed to want to upload it. So I made it an mp3 file and I think it's kind of worked now. boomp3.com/listen/c1jzl4k68_wMake sure you hit download, instead of listening to it on the site there, because that one sounds really tinny and chirpy. But, you can hear roughly how the tune goes, at least And this is just the first part of the piece - after those ending chords, it goes into A minor, then eventually it returns to C major again for the final bit. By any chance, would you know if there are any better audio file hosts? I just picked the first one that came up on google.

Name: Nature Guild: Mages Description of Personality: Friendly, cheerful and somewhat an oldie. But goes mental if she gets a dream involving a dark future. Picture or Description: Look at my signature. Or if you want, you can put Nature in her circus magician outfit, which she rarely wears. If you really can't allow Neopets, just turn Nature into a human (game form, as I call it. XD). Do you want to be the starting party member?: Sure! ^_^ I would love to help.

But hey, that was years ago, surely I've improved a little... Well, I'm in no hurry to get music, so take your time. Good luck composing. Maybe I could take another whack at trying to compose something, without the overuse of Distortion Guitar and Orchestra Hit. XD I kept using DG because it sounded like the retro video game music, but I couldn't make anything that sounded quite right. All right, I don't know how well this is going to work when you download it, but I played around with composing in a free program called Anvil Studio and got a .mid file at the end of it all, and for some reason, none of the hosts that I could find out there seemed to want to upload it. By any chance, would you know if there are any better audio file hosts? I just picked the first one that came up on google. That was great! The first thing that came to mind listening to it would be putting it somewhere in the final boss dungeon somewhere, (which, ironically, is the opposite of what you suggested) but listening to it more... I'll have to give it some thought. It loops pretty well, which is pretty hard to pull off, but it's crucial to making a game. (Unless it's for a mini-game with a time limit where the song ends when the timer runs out, but that's another story) You said that's just the beginning of it? Well, that part of it works pretty well by itself. As for an audio file host... I don't know any. Most of them won't let you upload midi, which is why my horrible midi I linked to in the intro post was just on my Freewebs account. ~~~~~ But thanks to both of you for contributing some music. If it wasn't for that, then you'd have to listen to either a silent game, or all of the music being like my Meepit Duel midi. *shudders*
