Those who've gotten Horizons already: Who were your first villagers?
I'll get it eventually, but I'm going to miss out for a while 'cause I haven't yet bought a Switch (I've been waiting for a good deal, but nothing has popped up), and everything is closed now. X'D

Plucky and Hamlet for me! They're cute enough.
It does seem that the starting villagers are always a jock and an uchi, so if your favorite villager is of a different personality, there's no point in resetting.
I was originally going to get the physical version, but because of COVID-19 I felt it would be better to cancel my pre-order and get the digital version instead. Just as well too, because a couple days after I cancelled it the place I had it in closed down until at least next Friday. (It's a local chain of entertainment stores, not something like GameStop, fyi) I think I'll be better off with the digital version anyways, since I can easily switch over to Animal Crossing whenever I want instead of having to change out carts.

I got Boone and Reneigh, which I'm happy with for a start. I named my island Seaglass. Very early game spoilers just in case: Right now I'm impatiently waiting for Blathers to set up shop at like five AM tomorrow so I can get a shovel and vaulting pole. I'm also REALLY happy that you can now put furniture pretty much wherever you please--I've got stacks and stacks of fishtanks and bug cages waiting outside the future museum lot. Also if you're not stung by wasps in your first hour are you really even playing

So a few weeks into the game, what are everyone's villagers looking like now? For me, it's: Plucky - Uchi chicken Hamlet - Jock hamster Punchy - Lazy cat Anabelle - Peppy anteater Marina - Normal octopus Shep - Smug dog Vivian - Snooty wolf Cyrano - Cranky anteater Honestly, I think my luck with villagers has been really great thus far in New Horizons. Having the ability to more or less pick the three after your starters and those after the camper has really helped too. Though I wasn't really aiming for most of the above in particular; I was kinda just taking mystery island tours until I found someone of each personality that I liked.
...though I did say "Nah" to having Fang on my island because I didn't want two wolves in a row, but wholeheartedly accepted Cyrano because he was one of my starting villagers in New Leaf. I know that Fang is REALLY popular, so I'm probably one of the only people on the planet that willingly turned down inviting him. Not too sure what I'm going to do about the last two villagers. I think I might just stick with the eight I got for a little bit longer, then perhaps go looking for more of my old New Leaf pals after I've saved up enough Nook Miles to do a big mystery island marathon.

For me, Boone is moving out tomorrow, which is nice because he's one of only two villagers I don't particularly like. I might go looking through islands for a new one, or just let a rando move in. Other than him, mine are: Rodney (the other one I don't like >_>) RenneighCarolineKabukiNateVivianAnnabelleBoomerSavannahI'm not crazy about Annabelle or Boomer either, and Savannah could go if she wanted, but Renneigh I'm probably keeping forever.

My starter villagers were Reneigh and Poncho. ^_^ Then Wendy, Molly, and Nate moved into the houses I built, and Olaf was the first villager who visited my campsite, so the game gave me no choice but to invite him to move to my town as well. XD I haven't invited anyone else, but I did reserve a plot of land in case someone cool visits my campsite or I run into them on a tour. We'll see! (I'm kind of scared of even saying hi to anyone I don't want to invite, though. XD; ) Pictures of my villagers in the order I mentioned them:

I accidentally let Boone and Rodney leave without getting their pictures, so today I learned how to make bootleg amiibo so I can get them back. xD

I'll soon be able to join in the ACNH hype. I get the game later today. ^^
I don't have a solid idea for what villagers I want yet, but I know I want Sylvana and Muffy. They're just too cute.

So... Serious question here. I've seen so much about Animal Crossing, and I think it's a game I'd enjoy. But I only have a Wii (1st gen, not the Wii U) and an iPhone. Can you do Animal Crossing just on your phone, or do you have to have the Nintendo game?

Can you do Animal Crossing just on your phone, or do you have to have the Nintendo game? There's a mobile Animal Crossing game called Pocket Camp. I've never played it, but I've heard people say that it has... problems. (As in it's loaded with micro-transactions and overall not indicative of the overall Animal Crossing experience) If the latest Nintendo console you have is the Wii, you could check out City Folk, at least. My first game was New Leaf, so I'm afraid I don't know too much about it, though.

City Folk for the Wii was my first Animal Crossing game, you might be able to find a used copy fairly cheap since it's such an old game? I haven't played Pocket Camp but from what I've heard, the mobile version isn't really the "true" Animal Crossing experience--though you could try it to see if you like the feel of the world/characters before investing.
Just one thing I'd mention about City Folk is that the grass wear mechanic works in overdrive (basically, walking or particularly running around makes the grass disappear over time), causing the ground to become arid and brown after playing for a while. Depending on your play style it might not matter much to you, but I feel it's the main drawback of the City Folk version of the game.
One thing I do like about City Folk compared to the newer installments of the series is that it was way easier to get the villagers to talk to each other and I felt like they had more unique conversations, though that could be just because they're different.
Another option if you have a GameCube controller and memory card is that you could actually play the original GameCube version on your Wii, though the graphics would be several generations old.
The nice things about the modern Animal Crossing games are the increased customization, streamlined interface, and ability to make and share designs with other players--so if you wanted to play online with others, you'd need one of the newer versions--but the core experience is probably about the same for each of the Nintendo console games.

Is anyone else drowning in extra recipe cards? I've got like 27, would be interested in swapping some if anyone else is in the same boat. Allison As others have said, Pocket Camp isn't really an AC game per se. In my experience AC plays best as a handheld, so the standouts for me have been Wild World (DS) and New Leaf (3DS/2DS) and I usually recommend New Leaf as the entry point. At this point you can get a used 2DS and used copy of NL for about $100 total if you hunt around, but if you don't want to go that far I'd just check out City Folk and see if you're into it first.

Yeah, I've also got a decent amount of DIY sitting around that I want to get rid of. I can check sometime later today to see exactly what I got and put it on a list if anyone wants them.
