Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun is hilarious, is anyone watching it? It's a parody of the shoujo genre starring a mangaka and his assistants, and there's a lot of spot-on art-related humor, as well as a cast of genuinely distinct, endearing and entertaining characters--it's just a really well done comedy. I don't remember the last time I looked forward to new episodes of an anime like this.

XD It's really, really funny and the characters have been total surprises. Great, interesting personalities. Overall the show has such a gentle and refreshing attitude. The episode where Nozaki and Mikorin are playing dating sims and get all worked up over the friend character, then end up making a BL comic. That was killing me.
The whole house has been watching Noragami on Netflix, too. That's turned out to be a good action show.

Yeah, I am really enjoying the attitude, it's lighthearted and down-to-earth--the characters are exaggerated for humor, yet I still find them very relatable and the comedy comes from their reactions to situations that wouldn't be too out-of-place in everyday life. I appreciate the realistic portrayal of being an artist and the fact that they actually managed to portray a young girl with an obsessive crush in a way that's endearing rather than annoying (Chiyo is my favorite character, incidentally). There hasn't been an episode where I haven't laughed, and I always smile the whole way through. YES IT KILLED ME TOO and also when Nozaki named his dating sim character after his shoujo manga protagonist and refused to hook him up with any girls because he didn't want to split up his Perfect Couple with the manga heroine--having been around for a lot of fandom shipping wars, I found it hilarious. Nothing getting in the way of his ~OTP~ apparently!

Man the new Parasyte anime is great. It's really tense and quickly paced (at the end of each episode we're going "How is it over already?! No way that was 20 minutes!), plus it manages to be somewhat philosophical. Gore is an undeniable factor so if you're squeamish, it probably isn't for you.
I remember seeing the manga on the shelves back in the 90s/early 00s but it was always bagged so I never checked it out. No idea if this is a faithful adaptation or not. I'll have to check it out and see when this is done.

So, I'm still watching Sailor Moon Crystal, but it's kind of been disappointing so far.
And I know most of this is because they've only got 13 eps for the season instead of the original anime's 47 (hah), but the characters are seriously lacking in development. I mean, Sailor Moon's supposed to fight for love and justice, but she's spent most of the time moping or being attacked. She hasn't -really- helped out anyone besides the scouts, so she's not really much of a superhero. And I think that's a big part of what I liked about the original: Sailor Moon was always there to help people out. But so far, none of this moping over Mamoru has given her much of a chance to do anything else.
Also I'm super-bummed at how one-note the four kings are. Again, 47 eps versus 13, but they had more interesting personalities. I especially loved how catty and petty Zoisite was. *le sigh*
I mean, it's probably also because I'm rewatching the originals as I watch Crystal. But I'm glad at least that the originals exist, because rewatching them makes me love them more. XD (Especially since I was only ever exposed to the DiC dubs, so it's like watching a whole new show!)

Wasn't Sailor Moon Crystal supposed to follow the Manga than the 1990s anime?
And since the second arc of the manga is going to be covered next year, maybe the character will further develop then?

Yeah, though the biggest deviation is the four kings, since half of them should've been dead by now. XD And the idea that they were the boyfriends of the scouts in their previous lives was something that was hinted, but never really included, and now it seems like it's going to be a fairly big plot point.

I was going to use the remake as an opportunity to finally actually see Sailor Moon, but I lost interest halfway through the first episode because I found the art style in the original a lot more charming, despite having only seen about eight episodes of it. I think the show just missed the window of time when I was interested in the episodic superhero type stories enough to follow one.
I still need to see the end of Barakamon (which I was enjoying pretty well, about a calligrapher who develops as a craftsman and a person when he moves to a small close-knit community and has to learn to get along with people, including a young girl voiced by an actual child).

(If anyone wants to watch Sailor Moon without pointless filler, you can ask me and I'll try to help)
I can't wait to see if SMC will do the S series!

Well, if you don't care about superhero stuff, then maybe you'll like Crystal. Sailor Moon doesn't fight monsters or help people out; it's mostly about her and Mamoru and their sappy lovestory. XD *prefers the shonen-like monster-of-the-day fights to the romance story*

Well monsters are cool, but it could get very repetitive to have the whole 'monster fight and failed enemy plans' pattern repeat itself, even though some of the monsters look really well drawn!

Well monsters are cool, but it could get very repetitive to have the whole 'monster fight and failed enemy plans' pattern repeat itself, even though some of the monsters look really well drawn! Are you saying that because you saw the original anime and don't like the monsters, or that you haven't actually seen the original? I liked the first few seasons of the original anime, because even though there was usually a monster in each episode, it was more a storyline about people, either about Usagi and her friends, or characters you get to meet just for that episode. And their problems were quite varied, though they often boiled down to love and friendship. You know, like the animator who was jealous of her best friend's animating abilities, or boy with a crush on Ami who could see into the future. It never really felt that repetitive to me, not much more than any other series geared towards a younger audience (like MLP or Adventure Time) And in the original, you really got to see the scouts' personalities shine, as well as the villains, whereas in Crystal, no one's dialogue couldn't have come out of any other one of their mouths. XD That said, I can't really separate that rose-tinted nostalgia from my opinion, since this played such a huge part of my childhood and was the 2nd anime series I'd ever seen (first was Samurai Pizza Cat X3)

I've seen the original five times. I think in the later seasons (S and SuperS), the pattern gets a bit repetitive, but that's just my opinion. The monsters in Sailor Moon are definitely my favorite out of any other names, so I don't mind seeing them.
