XDXD
What's with Jaden's hair anyway? Looks like he spilled paint/bleach and it wont come out. XD
EDIT: Also, something else for the YGO drinking game.
Take a drink whenever Yami Yugi or Yugi says "The fate of the world depends on it!" or "It's our destiny!"
Do not attempt with alcohol. e_e That's a lethal dose right there.

Take a drink whenever there is a corny joke made about a duelist's deck theme.

MONSTER REBORN, REVIVE THIS TOPIC FROM THE GRAVEYARD. Has anyone seen that Bakugan show? Well, I saw it for the first time about a week ago, and boy do they love to steal characters. Their best attempt was this guy named Anubias (I had to look that up XD) who looks like what would happen if Yami Marik stole Yami Yugi's clothes. (and if Yami Yugi's clothes looked 20% more bondage geary XD) Here's a visual with some help from Paint Shop Pro: On the left: Screenshot of some Bakugan guy... On the right: Fixed. Another interesting character in Bakugan was this Wyvern thingie that looked like Blue Eyes White Dragon combined with Rayquaza. XD See? YuGiOh! is still worth stealing from. :'D

MONSTER REBORN, REVIVE THIS TOPIC FROM THE GRAVEYARD. MONSTER REBORN, REVIVE THIS TOPIC FROM THE GRAVEYARD...AGAIN!(see Killix, I bolded my text to emphasise how very extra dead this topic was). Anyway, for those just joining us, I posted a mini comment which turned into a significantly less mini conversation, and so here we are! I'll quote the important parts of the convo in a spoiler box, just in case anybody else wants to comment on a long-dead thread. Okay so, since we're trialling Netflix, I decided to revisit my childhood with the two seasons of Yu-Gi-Oh available on that site. Watching it now? Totally different experience from when I was a kid. "Why is he wearing an ancient artifact around his neck? And he keeps his card collection in the equally ancient box it was found in? WHY DOES THAT DUDE HAVE YET ANOTHER ANCIENT OBJECT JAMMED IN HIS EYE SOCKET?!" (other highlights so far include a villain trying to set a schoolboy on fire (in front of a tonne of witnesses!) like !!! Dude! It doesn't matter that the super old amnesiac spirit was actually in control at that point- you didn't know that!) Not to mention how the BS through duels since the TCG or its rules weren't made at the time so the writers did whatever they wanted (that trope was originally named after Yugi's winning move in his duel against Panic, so much so they devoted an entire category just to Yu-Gi-Oh examples!). When Battle City rolls around they implement the TCG rules by having Kaiba say he was changing the rules from how it was done in Duelist Kingdom (and even then...). This was actually the episode I just watched! xD I never knew it was because the game didn't have established rules at this stage, though- but I mean, who doesn't want to see a dragon-mounted knight catapulted into a creepy hovering castle?! That would have been an incredible game! =0 I'm all about creative solutions, I'm terrible at the actual card game haha. My brother and I made some decks for the first time in years yesterday (using our probably extremely outdated cards), I have yet to win (though after restructuring mine a bit after our last game last night, I'm hoping to change that today!) I remember Dungeon Dice Monsters! I liked those episodes, and I actually had (probably still have, somewhere) an old GBA game based on it. (I was reading about that manga- I was really suprised when I read that it was based around a bunch of different games, yeah! But it does say that Duel Monsters becomes the main focus from a certain point- even so, it would have been nice to establish Yugi as being good at lots of games in the anime too, I think. It's a shame Dungeon Dice Monsters wasn't well received). In Japan it was established. There was a season zero in Japanese that never aired in the US because it included such gems as 1) Yugi using a lighter to set a guy on fire under the pretense of a game where you can "move only one finger"- he chose his thumb, to flick the lighter lid. 2) A variation on solitaire that involved a bomber blowing up cars on a ferris wheel every time you drew a bad hand 3) An actual D&D analogue which included a scene of one of the players impaling his hand the spire of one of the castles on the play set. And that's just to name a few. 4kids went "Yeeeeeah no." Oh it's connected. That scene Yugi references in one of the episodes where Joey chucks the millennium puzzle into the school pond? Thaaat was in season zero. What the dub neglects to mention is the bully who Yugi defends Joey and Tristan from done did got cursed forever to hallucinate monsters were trying to devour him when he cheated against the pharaoh in a shadow game. Oh, I thought for the reason Pharaoh was a huge d*** it wasn't canon. What happened between Season Zero and One that made Pharaoh chill out? Part of it was just general slow character development. Coming out of the ancient Egyptian mindset of AN EYE FOR AN EYE. But if you recall, the pharaoh was going to kill Kaiba to win a duel monsters game towards the middle of the Duelist Kingdom arc. Yugi stopped him, and refused to trust him for a while because he was too aggressively violent. I believe that was meant to be the big final turning point. Although this is probably not the thread to discuss this, ahaha. Season Zero is a different anime made by a different studio, and it's not not directly connected at all to the Duel Monsters series. However, they're two different adaptations of the manga in different points of time. The common Tea/Anzu-being-harassed scene (a scene in the Toei Anime, and a flashback in the Duel Monsters series) is an artifact of the fact that they're loosely adapting the same manga. (ofc to show what kind of YGO fan I am I watched this as a kid but my favorite thing is the abridged series.) Moni Man, I hadn't watched it in years either. I remember so little! I remembered character names for the main part, but besides that and a memory of a) turning on the t.v. after not watching the show for a while and being like 'wut, they're legit hanging out in Egypt now?' (which I've since googled context for), and b) a different memory of when I went to the movie and was annoyed that my brother got a good card, when I basically got pink Kuriboh; I don't remember the show very well at all. Even so, that opening sequence was the most nostalgia-inducing thing I've run across in a while, I don't even. xD Shinko Okay so there are four episodes left between me and the Super Intriguing sounding incident you mentioned above, am excite. Not sure how much I'll be watching it this week (my social life actually exists for once??!!), but still looking forward to watching it at some stage.

Ah yes, YGO The Shadow Games (aka season 0). It was animated by Toei and the colours... Lime green was their fav. YGOTSG was pretty awesome. I liked how Yami Yugi actually starts out pretty bad, mind crushing everyone left and right in crazy awesome ways. It has more of an impact when Yugi starts to change him into a more caring person with teh powerz of luv. Every time I rewatch YGO (Duel Monsters) I get a good laugh at how cheaty everyone is at the game. Kaiba especially.

I'm surprised you didn't post this! I found out about this particular piece of limeage on tropes, apparently season zero had even more amazing technicolor hair than Duel Monsters. I watched the rest of 'Double Trouble Duel' today. I like the duels which are a bit different- this one was really cool, with the maze and the new rules and stuff. As for cheatiness and Kaiba: I would reference the abridged series here, but I'm sure you all know the quote I'm thinking of anyway.

Okay so I just opened the episode from season 4, you know, the filler season where the SEAL OF ORICHALCOS is a thing that exists and the Pharoah actually does the stupidest thing ever and plays the OP-as-all-things card WHILE HE'S LOSING and actually activates a card that can make this card game dangerous? and darn I forgot how hilarious this series was. Rafael's backstory is especially lolworthy. And, well, everyone's backstory, really. My mom had a theory on how this series was made: "Once upon a time, a Japanese guy came here to tour Egypt--and unfortunately, he was a stoner who loved playing D&D. So he looks up at the pyramids one day and thinks, "DUUUUUUDE, THEY'RE SO TRIANGLE-SHAPED" and then follows it up with "DUUUUUUUDE, WHAT IF THOSE PHAROHS PLAYED D&D. TOTALLY RADICAL, MAN."" Of course, that's exactly why I love this show.

I didn't post Kaiba because that's tame compared to an entirely lime green cityscape. :D (and also because I didn't take a screenshot of Kaiba during my original watchthrough of the series. 'cause... yarg) Toei used the ugliest colours for YGOTSG... Aside from the limesplosion: EvilPimp!Mokuba has blue hair with green highlights (eww), Grandpa Motou is wearing pink, and poor Bakura has the most hideous shade of cyan I've ever seen for his hair (and of course, lime green eyes.) The best was when Kaiba attacked during someone else's turn. XD

I didn't read your spoiler box, Moni, because I haven't got that far on my rewatch. But I liked your post because of that description of how the show came about. xD
Even more reasons to watch it, Killix! I need to judge the ugliness of these colours for myself...

Oh fo' sho', it's definitely worth watching. I found the penalty games pretty awesome. (That thing with the lighter? Sweeeet) Okay so I just opened the episode from season 4, you know, the filler season where the SEAL OF ORICHALCOS is a thing that exists and the Pharoah actually does the stupidest thing ever and plays the OP-as-all-things card WHILE HE'S LOSING and actually activates a card that can make this card game dangerous???? and darn I forgot how hilarious this series was. Rafael's backstory is especially lolworthy. And, well, everyone's backstory, really. Oh boy, the Waking the Dragons season... Had the most ridiculous ending of them all, when Yami Yugi plays something with an attack power of more than infinity. XD;
Also, Kaiba pretty much admits to cheating. (He still loses, though, 'cause WTD was essentially an OPsplosion of cheating and impossible plays.)

Waking the Dragons pretty much had the most OP hax in the entire series. XD I wonder what would happen if Yugioh was dubbed in the 2010s. "Marik, time for your cheese strat to be destroyed!" "EXODIA, #REKT KAIBA!" "omg Tea you scrub." etc Also, WtD completely torpedoed the best character in this entire franchise. Mai. THEY WALKED BACK ALL HER CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Also she's like totally not cool here.
And she sounds really weird in this season in the English version too. (as a kid, I watched the arabic dub, which is still the 4kids version, shadow realm and all. xDD I'm 2cool4the Japanese original, I guess. XD)

Moni, don't forget #YOLO whenever someone makes a really risky move! Even early on I'm really liking Mai, so it's sad to hear that arc portrays her poorly. =(

Yeeeah... poor Mai, WTD ttly rekt her character and flushed any and all of her previous development down the toilet. XD; She sounds weird because she has a different (and worse) voice actor. :< Megan Hollingshead was her original English VA, but in WTD it changed to Erica Schroeder.
Haha, mention of Marik reminds me of his duel against Yami Yugi... The part where, considering the LP count and what was on the field, he could've just won the game had he simply ended his turn, but naw, he had to make some overly complicated play and ultimately lose instead.

We should Togethertube some abridged series or something some time- seems like something we'd all enjoy! (mainly I'm just desperate for more funtalking + videos like the Bad Titanic Ones Killix hosted, haha). (I was actually watching some of season zero abridged yesterday, mainly cos I don't have access to all of season zero. There was much cackling to be had).
