There will be a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct this Thursday (1/16) at 6:00 AM PST / 9:00 AM EST. It will last 35 minutes and Sakurai will both reveal and discuss the last DLC fighter for the first Fighter's Pass. I was expecting the next fighter to be revealed in a general Nintendo Direct this month and then discussed in a Smash Direct next month, so this is kind of a surprise. Also, I'm hearing some people discuss a certain company and character in regards to the DLC fighter, and it may just be speculation and people getting their hopes up, but I'm going to put it in a spoiler tag just incase: I'm seeing a lot of people throwing Capcom and Dante around. If it is indeed Capcom, but not necessarily Dante, I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed for a Palico. I know it would make a lot of people upset, but I'd be happy.

I agree with your choice XD Would be great! -- In other news, I got a Switch and got Smash. Downside, I don't have a ton of time to play it except on weekends, so it's very slow to unlock characters XD (plus still need to buy the fighters pass, which I plan to do this weekend).

You know... While getting ready to watch the stream, I actually thought to myself, "Oh god, what if it's another Fire Emblem character?"
Welp.
Like, I don't want to sound ungrateful, especially since I got my own most-wanted character earlier and there are still six (!!!) more DLC fighters on the way. But I'm not gonna lie, this is kind of disappointing.

Wat. I didn't watch the stream 'cause I knew it'd be all over the internet afterwards anyway. XD But... it's another FE character??
Seriously, Smash Bros... c'mawn. XP
6 more characters coming in later does not make this disappointment easier to swallow, 'cause it's just yet another paywall to access one of the most important aspects of a fighting game: the fighters.
The upcoming DLC could be amazing and have my top 6 most wanted in Smash and I would still have a bad taste in my mouth from the ballooned cost of completing the game. Fighters are the most important content to a fighting game, and anyone who can't access the entire roster is at an immediate disadvantage competitively. I don't have issue with paid expansions to games in general, but in some cases it's just icky to throw up a paywall and segregate the playerbase. (You get dangerously close to Pay2Win territory)

Killix : Yup, it's Byleth from Three Houses. They can use three different kinds of weapons, so they're not quite "just another anime swordfighter", but still...

Sooo... Multi-tool Marth. Goes great with our current set of Fire Marth, Big Sword Marth, Girl Marth, Dragon Marth, and Fire Marth's Clone!
Jokes aside, yeah. This wouldn't be as disappointing if I didn't have to pay so much extra for characters I don't care about, to have a complete roster.

This might mitigate the sting of the announcement a bit, but apparently, from what I've read online, Sakurai choose Byleth in secret, even from Nintendo themselves. Still, we are aware that Sakurai is a big fan of the Fire Emblem series.

Still, we are aware that Sakurai is a big fan of the Fire Emblem series. I find that kind of odd, because 3 Houses came out after Smash Ultimate came out. And he said at the start that Nintendo picked all the characters for this DLC pack. Unless that means that Nintendo penciled in "FE Character" for spot 5 for him and let him pick which one.

In today's Nintendo Direct Mini, it was confirmed that the first DLC character from Fighter's Pass 2 will be a character from ARMS. We still don't know exactly who, but we do at least have that little bit of information to speculate over. I know very little about ARMS, so I wouldn't be able to provide any real guesses. Though from an outsiders' perspective, it seems that the most iconic characters from that game are already in Smash as Spirits and/or Mii Costumes. (EDIT: Just remembered that Spring Man is also an Assist Trophy) So I wonder if it's going to be someone totally new to promote yet-unreleased ARMS content, or if this means that Spirits/Mii Costumes do not deconfirm a character. (If it's the latter, that does mean a fair amount of fan-requested characters such as Geno and Rex could get another shot) It was also said a few weeks ago that COVID-19 will be causing delays for the development of DLC characters. So don't be surprised if the fighters end up not releasing according to the original schedule.

I'm not a fan of ARMS at all, so I hope the character they implement is a unique fighter and not just Little Mac with more range.

Sakurai will be presenting the ARMS fighter for the second DLC pack on June 22nd, at 7 AM PST / 10 AM EST.
I have no investment in ARMS whatsoever, but I am still curious who will be revealed. If it's someone like Spring Man that already has representation in Ultimate through an Assist Trophy / Mii Costume, then that could renew hope for a lot of other popular characters that didn't make the cut in the main game. Personally though, I think it'll probably be someone new that Nintendo wants to use as promotion for future ARMS content.
Between this and the second Pokemon Presents stream on the 24th, it seems like next week will be busy for Nintendo fans. (I understand that E3 as we know it couldn't happen this year, but I'd be happy with a week chock-full of big announcements like this)

From what little I know of ARMS, Min Min seems like a solid pick. One thing of note about Min Min that will make the speculation of the rest of the DLC fighters very interesting is that she was a Spirit in the base game. Therefore, Spirits do not deconfirm a character*, and means that fan favorites such as Geno and Rayman still have a chance.
*Though I would probably assume this mostly applies to those that are Spirits in the base game, and not necessarily all of those that were included in post-launch. Depending on when Fighters Pass 2 was decided on, it wouldn't make much sense to have a character as part of a Spirit event if the development team knew that they were going to be included as a full fighter later on.
Also, that Joker amiibo looks really good. If they're doing the DLC fighters for amiibo now, I await the eventual Banjo & Kazooie amiibo with bated breath.

Spirits not deconfirming is a double-edged sword. On one hand, Rayman, Shantae, a Rhythm Heaven rep (I'm thinking either Karate Joe or the Chorus Kids) and Geno have chances, which is all good. On the other hand, Rex from Xenoblade 2 is probably a shoo-in now, and I really dislike Rex as a character. It's funny, because two characters I actually want (Sora and Lloyd Irving) are also shonen JRPG idiot heroes, but both of them have distinct personality traits beyond being generic shonen JRPG idiot heroes and loads of character development. They're both rounded, interesting characters. Rex is just so... Generic. Xenoblade 2's narrative tries to paint him as this great guy who you should love, but his personality's flatter than a cardboard cutout lol
