No, I did mean it. However, I doubt he was calling him a fish. I'm not native to the english language, but I always had "sucker" understood as a pretty strong word for "idiot". *shrug* Nope, "sucker" is pretty mild, I would say. Although if anyone disagrees with me, you're definitely free to tell me. People say "I'm a sucker for chocolate" which means they are not strong enough to resist it, kind of. Even "You suck" is usually said in a joking way. I don't think I've ever seen "You suck" used in a really mean way. It's really hard to explain, but "sucker" is usually not meant in a rude or offensive way at all. In this instance, the Tombola man is just saying that he tricked the Eyrie, and "sucker" is not meant in a literal way. Anyway, anyone's free to disagree with me here. Sorry I didn't explain it well.. it's one of those things that's pretty hard to explain to someone =P. No, that came across pretty clearly to me. I wouldn't call "sucker" a swear word at all... it's really very innocuous. As you said, it's usually taken in kind of a joking way. It means someone who's gullible, not necessarily dim-witted. But I do know of people who don't like to hear "suck". o.o It's blocked by Neopets filters, if I recall. I think it's pretty mild, too, but a little more direct than "sucker".

Like I said, I'm not native to the english language - so obviously the people I learned English from were of this kind who don't like to use either terms I'm sorry that I accused this person incorrectly Well, at least I learned something °^_^ Thanks for correcting me!

"Sorry to interrupt the nice reviews and all, but I actually find this one a lot worse than "darn"."
You guys are pretty sensitive when it comes to this kind of stuff, it seems. : / They say "sucker" on children's television shows all the time. It just means someone who has fallen for a trick. I'm pretty sure I've heard it on Scooby Doo, or some cartoon like that. Maybe it's just because I'm rough around the edges when it comes to language, but even "darn," while I myself wouldn't use it in a Neopets story, doesn't seem like too big of a deal.
Edit: Oh, silly me, if English isn't your first language, I suppose that would seem pretty harsh, now that I'm thinking about it. XD Heh heh.

Nah, it's OK The thing is, as far as I recall I have never heard or read it in children's cartoons, only in series for adults, hence the reason I thought it was worse than "darn". (And I did learn my English mostly from Cartoon Network, as a matter of fact. But like I said, I made a mistake and I'm sorry if I offended anyone.) EDIT: This topic won't get off my mind. I just remember I DID hear "sucker" on CN after all. Daffy Duck says it quite frequently, not that I come to think abuot it, but I always considered him as a bad example, so it seems like I repressed that °^_^ And I've never really understood what Donald Duck says after all XD So I take everything back. Please forget that I ever mentioned this topic....

I got "sucker" from Donald Duck comics first, I think. ^^; Just a couple of years ago, I would've gone running to wash my ears if I so much as read a bad word. ^^; *was raised not to swear* I think I've gotten pretty desensitized to it by now, but that doesn't mean I like reading it. I just like to think that people take a bit of consideration and use discretion when writing for an audience like this. If you're on a pet site marketed to children, you would expect that your writing is going to be read by children or people who are hiding from the scary so-called "adult" material that's being thrown at them. It's true that words mean different things to different people, but I thought most were aware of which could be taken as offensive. I admit I don't really consider "hell" a swear word, but I know there are many who do and I wouldn't say it in front of them. (Actually, I don't really say it as it is. I'm not used to it. ) ...I think I've driven this thread really far off topic. ^^; *needs to get to work reviewing instead of spamming up the board* I don't mean to start a debate with this post, so it should be my last until I get those reviews ready... *flees*

Nah, Ami, it's all good. =D No need to feel you did anything wrong. Like I said, I have extremely rough language in real life, so my opinion tends to be slightly skewed. XD It's true, Nut, I have learned to tone things down considerably for Neopets, and although I'm able to do it, I don't really recognise when someone else does something inappropriate because it usually isn't thus to me. XD I wanted to review some more, but I'm a bad person and am too tired to read right now. I wouldn't do the stories justice. >>

Come to think of it, isn't "darn" not as harsh a word in British English as opposed to American? And TNT tends to stick with British English.

IIRC, "darn" isn't censored on the Neoboards. I think I remember reading someone post it once. I think you're right, Tashni; I don't believe it's that severe of a word in British English.

When it comes to words such as these, I've been raised conservatively, not to swear. In all senses, I don't find such things as "darn," "hell," or even "scoundrel" to be offensive, yet as is the trend about such words, I avoid them when I write unless it's truly necessary as they are offensive to some.
Typically, I hear "sucker" used to refer to someone who's gullible. The phrase "you suck," however, I often hear said much more offensively, and I do tell the children in class that it's not appropriate during class.

Well aren't we getting a little off-topic? Anyway, I've been raised to not swear at all, but stuff like "crap" etc. are just fine. (I remember when i was little, i would freak at my sister for saying "crap" then when i got older, everyone got so surprised when i first said it. Now i use it like every day ) But when it gets to the 'darn' and stuff, i usually find it somewhat offensive. (Especially the F word) Another reason why i would rather be homeschooled, so i dont have those types of words going through my head every single day. It gets so annoying! I agree with Tashni, must not be that bad if it gets through the Neopets filters and it's actually on the site. I'm glad that it doesn't get used too much by TNT, but perhaps we should send in an Editorial or something to TNT and hopefully we can get their say in on it.

Eww reviews plis men =) PS Swear words are just words, not much of a big deal there. I probably say more in a day than everyone on this board =P The thing I'm trying to say is, if we worry too much about some words, then we forget what the real picture is. When you look at it, is it really worth getting all over the place over? I'm sure no little kids looked at the word and went "MOMMY NEOPETS SWORE AT ME!" So, I'm sure most of you aren't little children, so you can handle it. This day we live in a world where swear words are mere common words.
Someone review =)

I have a bunch of reviews to reply to! Thank you for reviewing my comic, guys! It's really sweet that you all were so willing to tell me what you thought. Smelly Nelly by NinaThis is the first Smelly Nelly comic I'm reading, so the value of repeatedly saying "Nelly's back" is above me, though the art was eye-poppingly well-done and the joke was really funny. Yeah, I didn't really take into account the fact that not all people have been around that long and that not all people have read my early comics. Some people, though, were cool enough to read backwards since they liked this one, they Neomailed me that this comic caused them to find my early ones. So I guess it's a bad thing and a good thing. Some didn't get it, but some were motivated by it ^_^. Smelly Nelly (just because you asked nice, I'll do this one before the others )~ Excellent job on the coloring. I thoroughly enjoy the usul's pose at the end. XD An over all great way to return. ^_^ Welcome back! Yay, thank you for the earlier review . I know, I have to say that Sis' pose at the end turned out quite well. I was happy with it, it got across exactly what I wanted to get across. Also, thank you for the welcome back ^_^. Smelly Nelly: This one got a laugh out loud from me, something not many comics (NT or otherwise) get. Awesome job, and the art's so bright and cheery. Welcome back, Nina. We missed ya. ^___^ Aww, Dan! Nothing negative in your review, yay xD. I always hope my comics are good enough to get laugh-out-louds from people. It's so my goal. I'm really glad, and thank you for your "welcome back" and ultranice review . Smelly Nelly The best comic of Smelly Nelly series Like someone posted above, not many jokes get an actual laugh out of me, but this one did. Very cheerful, love the background. Looking forward to future Smelly Nelly's. Thanks for the comment on the background. It's always my favourite part to do xD. And it's usually pretty complex, but obviously not a lot of people notice it, because it's just the background? But it's the place where I get to be most creative with my colours and layout. I'm really glad it made you laugh out loud! Hopefully my next one does, too. Hmm.. my first comic in forever! I'm not too happy because I drew a new thumbnail for it that was all pretty, and submitted it with the comic, but the old one was used ._. I guess I shouldn't complain, but I wanted a fresh start.. Any reviews reeeeally appreciated!! ^_^. Especially because it's been so long. When I read this, I pretty much gasped and ran to the comics section. heh. ^_^; YAAAAAAY! Great comic! I'm really not that good with comic reviews, but I am going to review the two short stories this week. I love your enthusiasm, Sam :*. I'm glad you liked it! And that you remembered it from before! Smelly Nelly by NinaI haven't read Smelly Nelly before, but I've heard great things. Phenomanal artwork! And the joke was great. Wonderful job! I'm glad that you still got it despite the fact that you hadn't read it before . Thanks so much, Goosher! I'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^. Also, I'm flattered that you heard great things about it . Smelly Nelly by NinaThis the first Smelly Nelly I have read, though I have seen it in the times before. I liked the joke, I didn't really it it at first until I thought about it. Good job though and nice artwork. So you saw it but totally skipped over it? -nudges-. Just kidding . Thanks! Smelly Nelly by Nina - WELCOME BACK! And this was a great comic to announce your return and have a punchline all at once. I really enjoyed it. Artwise, this was good! It took me a moment to realize in the third panel that the Usul was jumping on the Kacheek's back, but the final panel clarified it. I'm glad you eventually got it, and that you liked it . Thanks for the review! Smelly Nelly by NinaI really was not expecting this to end the way it did. It was so funny! I like the unique style you've been doing your more recent comics in, too. "Smelly Nelly's back!" Yay. Whoo, I have a unique style . I think it's just that I've been putting more time into my more recent comics, almost to an insane amount.. like, they have to be perfect, to me =P. I'm also glad that you didn't see the end coming. That was the plan . This isn't really a review but I just wanted to say... Yay. ^_^ Smelly Nelly is back. On that note, I'll say nice pun, as well. XXDD And I really love your coloring style, Nina. The colors just pop out of the page. ^_^ Thank you for popping in and letting me know you liked it and that you remember it, Belle! I appreciate it . Picking the colours, also, always takes me a while.. for some reason, the colours are always really important to me.. ^_^;. Even if they're insignificant. Again, thanks :*.

Does anyone want a review from me? I don't have too much time these days, what with work, but since everyone was nice enough to tell me what they thought here, I'll definitely do a few. Only, there have been many comic reviews done already, so I'm not sure whether I should do any more? I generally do pretty long comic reviews that are indepth, so if someone needs one, let me know here. Also, I guess I can do short story/article reviews if someone wants some input, although I'm obviously more knowledgeable with comics.

A Cooty's Fang by myrtale Aww, this was a really sweet and enjoyable story! I normally don't do reviews because I tend not to be very helpful, but since you asked for a nice comment, I guess I can do that! XD So anyway, I really liked it! The pace was great, and I like your style of describing things and actions... I mean, the story required so little dialogue, and yet I didn't feel the description was too much because it was well-written. I could picture everything. I loved Fangy's personality. It amused me. ^^ The ending was perfect! You fooled me for a moment there... I wasn't sure it would end like I hoped it would (and it did!). Great job! ;D
