I hardly ever swear. Only if I'm really frustrated with something might I mutter something under my breath (or out loud, depending on how angry I am). But I don't really swear during normal conversation - an otherwise PG conversation shouldn't turn to R just because a person is swearing heavily for no adequately explained reason.

I don't swear, only when I can't take it anymore and I REALLY NEED TO BLOW OFF SOME STEAM. But I think it's not nice. I mean, there are better alternatives to swearing, like pummeling pillows, or saying "Oh my gosh!" or something like that. In fact, I'm trying to kick my habit, no matter how small it may be.

I really wish I had a punching bag, because sometimes I really need to just beat the stuffing out of something. And twice a week at Tae Kwon Do doesn't quite do it for me. But yes, beating up pillows can be quite a nice re-direction of your anger ^_^ Though not for the pillows.

Meh. Swearing's just not a big deal for me. I don't swear constantly, and I don't swear around younger children or people who look like they'd be annoyed. But if I'm hanging around with some of my friends, everyone swears a lot. If it's with others, I'd probably not swear at all. I don't take it as being stupid, or immature. It's a word like any other. Some people naturally have rougher vocabularies than others, depending on background, parents etc. What I hate is people thinking "darn" is a swear word. It never was, it never is. And "crap" too. I say crap whenever I do something wrong and I don't see any problem with it. Though I do occasionally say carp too because I find it more amusing. I never really swear offensively, unless it's some idiot, for instance, beeping their horn at you. And I don't say c**t at all - just doesn't come up. But I'm always shouting "I'll kill yer, yer b**tard" in a northern accent at one of my friends or saying "pieces of sh*te." It's not offensive; it's just random insanity. Funnily enough, I was talking about this this morning with my friends, because random French guys were around and we wondered how much we should swear. We joked about "advanced level" swearing and moved onto such mangled, arcane swear words that it was really funny ^_^ I also like telling people "A plague upon your heads and your cattle." Everything I say is for humourous purposes, really

Eh, i don't really mind so long as you aren't swearing AT people, or calling them swear words. I believe very firmly that language has a strong effect on the human mind, so that kid of thing is just bad. Also, people who say f- every other word just end up sounding like idiots to me, but I don't really mind. I myself say d-mn a lot. For one thing, it doesn't really mean anything to me because I don't believe in Hell. For another, when I was 12 a read a really good series of books where it was used a lot, and I sort of picked it up from there. I'll occassionalyl use some other minor cuss words, but not often. I have never used the f word in my life. Now, what really gets to me are slurs. Those are offensive and wrong, no two ways about it.

I usually don't curse at all around my family or at school... it's only when I'm alone or with friends that don't mind that I curse a lot. Haha, I remember one time when a centipede was crawling on my foot in the dining room... I screamed and kicked it off and started yelling curses at it. I was cursing it for like five minutes afterwards as I was trying to kill it. xD I am insane.
Me: How do you like that? How do you like that, you *censored*!! That'll teach you to *censored* with me, ya little *censored*!!!

I always wondered what was wrong with saying a word, I didn't and still dont swear. A word might escape from my mouth, but very rarely. Most of the time I'll just make up new word to take the place of others. like f*** becomes frip.

I, personally cannot stand constant cussing or use of cuss words in place of adjectives. I just don't think that there really is any reason to. I can't stand it when people swear because they think it's funny. When I see a funny joke accompanied by several hundred (or even one) cuss word/s, the joke just loses all funnyness to me. IMO, unless you're having your arm cut off or are watching a family member drive their car off a cliff etc, then there is no reason for harsh words. I must admit that I have used some minor words before. I usually just substitute, like heck and drat. Instead of saying "Jesus Christ" I always say "Aww, geez" When I'm upset or anything, I just say "crudmuffin" which is a nonsense word that means nothing. I understand why people are offended by words. I have a phobia called "Onomatophobia" which is the fear of hearing or seeing certain words or names. In my case, a certain f word. Read anything on symptoms of Onomatophobia and that's basically what happens to me. Hmm, where was I? Oh yeah! I can't stand the misuse of the word "gay". I don't like when people try to use it as an insult. I always have to correct them by saying "Yes, he/she/it/I am very happy/nicely decorated!" Whoever said that thing about sticks and stones, forgot about hurting people mentally. Anyway, I really do try to use as many unoffensive words as possible. I just get so sad and angry when people fight or get mad at me (or even if I'm not involved). I'm a traumatised little kid who builds up all of her anger, fear and sadness into a little ball and tries to shrug it off. This ball just gets larger and larger. I think one day I'm going to snap and actually get sent to the mental hospital. EDIT: crazy enter key XD I wasn't finished! IMO, people can cuss all they want as long as I don't have to hear it.

Personally, I don't mind swearing. Every now and then, I do so myself, and no one seems to mind. With today's violence and sexual matter, I've seen kids as young as 5[/b] swearing. It's like it's not big deal anymore. Some people's parents don't even care if they swear... one of my dentist's assistant's sons (who by the way, is a big jerk in my class) swears in front of her all the time, and she doesn't do anything about it. He swears all the time, and no one cares (actually, I bug him alot to get him to stop it, but he just says "Screw you, b****"!) I remember when even saying "d@mn!" would get you spanked and sent to your room. Now, everyone just screams it out loud and nothing happens. It's just really crazy now. I think would appreciate it if swearing wasn't as frequent now-a-days.

I think I've figured out why swearing is becoming so common.
It has some to do with music, some to do with the media, and a LOT to do with parents like the one I saw at the mall yesterday.
She was with her three-year-old kid and he started whimpering and she shouted at him "Don't f***ing start!"

She was with her three-year-old kid and he started whimpering and she shouted at him "Don't f***ing start!" Woah. Talk about terrible parenting. That is going to be one seriously messed up kid very soon. I mean, my parents have sworn in front of me once or twice, but that was only when they really lost control, like getting a huge cut from a knife of something. I've been 12 or 13, and it wasn't at me, it had nothing to do with me and there was nothing I did to cause it, so I didn't really mind; nobody's perfect. As for me, I swear a bit myself. I don't use f--- or s--- unless I'm really angry, and that's just me talking to myself; I rarely say it to other people. I'm quite guilty of saying da-n and hell and crap fairly often, but I don't consider those as bad as f---, s--- or b----. My friend swear all the time, and I've been known to say f--- or s---- in front of them occasionally, but that's only friends I trust really well. Swearing doesn't offend me, but when I'm watching a movie where every other word is f---, I get pretty bored, and leave, just to hear someone actually talk. However, a movie like American Pie, which has swearing a lot, uses it with good humour (IMO) and that doesn't bug me. Usually I just use alternatives, like 'freaking', 'fricken', 'friggen', and I'm using the word 'fudge' profusely nowadays. But sometimes I just can't help it and f--- or s--- just seeps out. Like on my last day of gifted (I had a banter board post about this a while ago) after 4 years with the kids my age and 1 year with the kids a year younger than me for 1 day a week, I had to leave early because my mom was there to pick me up, and as I was saying good-bye to my close friends, this kid who had been a complete a-- (I say that one too) to me all year started shouting out "hurry up and leave", "good riddance", "we won't miss you!". I didn't let it bug me, but as I closed the door, he said "I hope you die over the summer" (or something like that), and I finally cracked, and opened the door again. Everything went suddenly silent, and I just said calmy. "Hey Levon. F--- you." and as everyone started going "OOOHHHHH!!!!" (because the teacher was right there), I left. I was really worried afterwards that I'd get in trouble like a really snarky comment on my report card, since my first one wasn't that great, but nothing happened. ;D

He's a rap freak and swears alot(especially when my parents arent around). Even though we watch South Park and listen to rap, we know that swearing is wrong and won't be convinced that once we hear it, it's ok to say it. (That reminds me, earlier today a bunch of CD's were all messy and my dad was like "What the hell is that?!"XD) EDIT: Just now, on the cumputer doing his taxes, my dad said "Sh*t. XD

I think everyone swears.
I avoid using the group of words marked by general society as profane as much as I can - I don't like using them, and I don't see the point of it, really. But what made those words become cusses? Their meanings and the intent behind them. So my theory is that I could yell a loud, infuriated, "FISH!" and be swearing just as much as one screaming the f-word.
Casual swearing often bothers me, though. There's really no need for somebody to be using swearwords in ordinary conversation. It's one thing if a person just dropped a hammer on his foot or just had another car ram into the back of his own car or was having a really, really bad day in some other manner. That I can understand. But there's no reason for swearing while having a plain, everyday conversation with another human being.
I use words like "darn" all the time. I've actually made up a few random words to use as swear words for anger management purposes - I come up with words so weird-sounding and funny that I can't help staying mad too much longer because I stay occupied feeling stupid and happy. (That's a bit of a perk about being a writer, yes? You can do so much good with a love for words.)
I try my hardest not to use the generally accepted profanity, as I've already said. If I'm wicked mad or upset, I might swear in a journal entry or in my head, but I try at least not to utter cusses. After all, I swear routinely in speech anyway without ever actually doing it. ;D
