I do cuss now and then, but it's not every other word like I hear coming out of some peoples mouths. The strange thing is I won't swear at all in front of my mom and dad and I mean at all! My mom knows I swear and always just wants to hear me say the F word just once and every time they come down to visit me she asks me to "Just say the F word for your mother won't you?"
It bothers me hearing it on songs because I don't think that has a place on the airwaves, but what really bugs me is the free use for it on television. Movies, who cares, but is it really necessary for regular prime time shows to say that? Pfff...and people wonder why I only watch cartoons lately.
Mostly when I myself do it, it's just habit from being a factory worker for years and living in a very rough side of town. Sorry, the influence of the Mouse hasn't tamed the mouth of mine much, but at least when a friend brought up that I say the F word way to much I did stop, but it does slip now and then when I'm ranting about something.
I suppose it's all mind over matter for me. I mean heck, if I can not do it at all in front of my mom and dad (and I'm thirty-five by the way) I'm sure I can cool it. I guess my opinion on it is once in a while isn't bad, but to be nutzoid with it is a shame and same is it a shame in the ways young ears can hear it. I know for sure I don't like seeing a five year old giving the finger or hearing a little girl say the b word about her mom x.x

I don't swear that often. Sometimes it's the only word that really has an effect. Whenever I swear, it's normally followed by a gasp and silence. Which is very strange, considering that my usual classmates use the F and C words gratuitously.
Words lose their effect if they're overused. In the immortal words of South Park: "Yeah, swearing's just no fun if you're ALLOWED."

I do swear, though not in an everyday situation. Like, yesterday, I got killed on my video game for no apparent reason and I spit a cuss word or two at the computer.
To me, I'm not really too worried about it. I mean, first, who gets to decide what a "swear" word is? I had a friend who's mom thought "crap" was a cuss word, and I'd get in trouble everytime I said that at her house.
Then, in another 30-50 years, I'd be surprised if most people even considered those words offensive anymore. What, with how much we hear it on TV, music, video games and movies, those words really are slowly forming themselves as part of our everyday vocabulary.

This is an interesting topic. I have sworn once in my life, and that was on MSN. My stupid computer kept freezing. I wasn't allowed to be online anyway, but my friend needed help with some Science vocabulary that I'd already done and her dad was on the phone. My dad kept hovering outside the room, and that was putting me under pressure to be quiet, and then the comptuer kept freezing. Wasn't exactly enjoyable. But yeah. I don't usually like swearing. Especially in songs, because teh thing is, I usually listen to my music really loud, and if my parents heard teh swear words i nthe songs, I'd be dead. But I also think that people get advice and learn from songs. If that's the sort of message the song is giving across, more and more people are going to be swearing.
I think it's okay in movies, but just not too much. Because I mean, it would say on the back "Has swearing" or whatever, so you basically already know. Therefore, it's your choice if you watch the movie.

I'll used to swear a lot, but I've tried to tone down my usage of swear words. You'll get a "Crap!" out of me, but I try and keep other things to minimuls.
My friends and I have invented other phrases to use insted of swear words, to break our habit. Things like, "Oh, chip 'n dip!" and "Springy elephants!" or "Spikes!" Yeah, we get a lot of strange looks and stuff, but we're breaking a habit together, which brings us closer somehow.

"Just say the F word for your mother won't you?" Wow, I don't even know how to react to that. More so, I don't know how I'd react if my mom said that... At home, if I do something that'd make me swear if I was alone (like dropping something on mym foot), I say something like this: "Ah Ffffffffffffffff...(silence)...fudgey monkeys!" Or: "Fgdfkgertgjiodjhlsdf!"

I swear so much it's not even funny anymore. It's like what Buddy says. People swear so much, and watch so many strong movies and music, that it's just not that offensive anymore. Its just a word. Are where I live, at least.
How do y'all feel about when people use swear words for their litteral meaning?

I do swear, but not a lot. Basically just the 'd' word and the 'a' word. I'm trying to stop, though.
My mom also thinks it's funny when I swear! Probably because I look like I'm 13 and I'm basically a goody-two-shoes.

I only ever use one swear word, d--n, when I get mad or mess something up or do something stupid or trip. And it's usually under my breath, as I try not to say it aloud. I used to be a lot worse, though, just 'cause I had this friend who really wasn't a very good influence, and it was "cool" to swear. Yeah, I was dumb. I think she still is. It really irritates me, though, when people use swear words in the place of adjectives. People swear a TON at my school, and I'm in middle school, for goodness sakes. I don't find swearing horrifically offensive, but it just annoys the heck out of me when I hear people cussing every other word. Personally, I think it makes a person sound less intelligent, but that's just me. It also bothers me, like Crystal said, when people will use "God!" or "Jesus Christ!" for swearing. The worst part is, I do that sometimes (Just God usually, as in "God, why can't these people just be quiet?" if some people won't shut up), and I can't figure out how to stop myself. It's become too much of a habit... I've pretty much out of the habit of saying Jesus Christ or Christ, because I replaced that with "Crickets!!!", and it's been working fairly well.

I'll say minor curse words on a fairly regular basis. Not really because I want to, it's more just... habit. Happens when you hang around friends who swear like it's a second language. I'll mutter major curse words under my breath. I once muttered the f word under my breath for about a minute, because I'd just made a total fool of myself and let down my hockey team. In front of the guy who I used to have a crush on. It served its purpose, I felt vented and happier afterwards. I don't really care about swearing. I know I can control it easily, and I only use it if I'm angry or something like. I've never sworn in front of my parents, and I could probably stop. In fact, I should. However, I get really ticked off when people swear AT people, or swear just so sound cool. For example, at school, I said something to Blank, and she said; "What the f*** are you talking about?" So I got angry with her about that, because that was totally innapropriate. And I too, hate the misuse of words. Like... you're so gay, and stuff. Ehh. This thread makes me not want to swear at all. I'll make a note to stop

The thing is, I really don't mind swearing. I'm not saying that every other word you say can be a curse wourd, but think of the alternatives. Cursing for many people is a stress reliever. If I'm really angry, like I usually am when dealing with this computer, I may mutter a stream of curses to cool off. It's a way to describe your emotions and make sure you don't do anything irrational. Woudl you rather have someone tell you to F*** off or have them pull a gun on you? They're expressing thier anger in both ways, but by cursing, they can relieve their anger in a way that they don't physically harm anyone.
I try to stay away form saying "Jesus" or "Christ", but sometimes it just slips out. When I do, I'll finish it off with a prayer, like "Jesus, help me deal with these idiots."
I also like substituting the word for other words so peopel don't wig out. Some things like "Spit, Puck, Grass Pole and Duck" are what I'll use instead of cursing. My dad uses one, instead of saying "Jesus Christ, God Almighty" he'll say "Cheese and Crackers got all muddy." He also says another one that I suppose was insulting in the past "Your mother wears combat boots." I always relpy to him "ann your father wears pink tutus." But hell and d**n are part ofmy normal vocabulary, and they're just basic ways to express my anger.

One other thing that really bugs me is how perverted idiots have managed to turn ordinary and very common words into a word that now means something disgusting a dirty. One word is "gay"... for goodness sakes, it used to mean "happy" or "cheerful"... I just find it horribly annoying 'cause you it's bad enough not to let cuss words slip, now you have to make sure not to say certain words that were once perfectly harmless or everyone will start giggling or stare at you. I hate perverts. They think they're SOOOOOO funny, being all perverted and disgusting, but they're just dumb.

Wow, I don't even know how to react to that. More so, I don't know how I'd react if my mom said that... quote] LOL Now you know how I feel! It's embarrassing to say the least and I know if I do comply and say it she'll act like it was the most special thing a person could hear or something. She's not being mean or is nuts, but she just has odd things about her with me sort of like if I were to drink alcohol or smoke a cig around her. I don't do either one of them and never tried nor plan on it, but I'm sure if she knew I'd get the same reaction like the cussing x.x

Personally? I can't stand swearing, and I tend to avoid people who overuse inappropriate words. I can usually tolerate cursing in moderation, but when people swear incessantly, I automatically tend to think of them as rude/childish/idiotic/insertwhateverelsehere.
It's just my opinion, take it how you'd like. But cursing doesn't really land someone high on my respect list.
